    Healing the US

Maybe you are not in the US, but here there is an enormously powerful lobbying group called DISCUS that represents the distilled spirits makers. it garners various favors and protections from government officials via financial contributions, and therefore most politicians never say much of anything critical about the alcohol industry. Likewise big pharmaceutical companies operate in the same manner and are actively working in DC to kill off the alternative and supplements producers/suppliers. The fact that Ron Paul is the only candidate for our 2012 presidency to take these matters seriously (and publicly) really does mean something to me. I would never vote for someone based on a singe statement, and I sincerely hope you wouldn't either.

I bid you well in your journey.

          Healing the US

Reggie, you know I respect you a great deal! :l But I feel that this thread is interesting, and brings great info to the Americans who feel the need to read it. I think it's important for people to be educated on what's going on out there, and not everyone has the time to be here, and on political forums.

The right to bear arms...if any of you read it on another thread, I own a firearm. It's actually a gun that was passed down to me from my great grandfather. I cherish it and will keep it always. I don't have it in my home, however. I have small children, and won't until my gut or whatever else tells me it's safe. In the meantime, when I saw my brother this weekend, we took it out of the gun safe, unloaded it, and started the beginning process of talking about gun safety, and how important it is to recognize the power and the privlege of the pistol, with my eldest son. I allowed him to look at it and even hold it. He had many good questions and was asking the right ones. I believe education on firearms is a process.

Americans who go through proper channels to obtain guns and use them for sport or self defense are not the ones who are out murdering people. Take for example our hunters. I know many, many hunters. They want to hunt for sport, to keep the deer population down, and to avoid having to buy more meat from our disgusting meat industry. An industry that feeds our livestock corn laden with antibiotics and hormones. I see no issue with this, more power to them.

I have a neighbor who is a husband and father to two very young girls. He is very successful and doesn't suffer from mental illness. :H He has a FOID card, which is the card in Illinois that allows you to purchase firearms. He has purchased his firearms with the card, but he's also gone through some underground channels for exta rounds. He feels that if anything happens that's majorly catastrophic in this country, that there will be nobody to protect him or his precious family. We've already seen some evidence of this with small catastrophes in specific areas, i.e., Katrina. If something were to happen more widespread...we just don't have the resources. He then tells me about things like Martial Law...but I won't go into that here. I will say Det, that the above link reminds me a bit of Martial Law. Not that I know enough, I'm just starting to educate myself on these things. It's scary stuff!

I'd also like to add, it's not just lack of resources that get in the way when catastrophe occurs, it's the bureaucracy that is so prevalent in our government.

right you are Redhead! thank you for taking the time to carefully and thoughtfully introduce your youngster to firearms. indeed education is what dispels ignorance/fear and tragic misuse of these tools. i shot my first rifle with the help of a relative at age 2. no kidding.
also a 'thank you' to all hunters and shooting sportsmen/women for their enormous contributions to our wildlife conservation and preservation within the US. they almost solely fund these efforts with billions of annual dollars going to our parks, wildlife, wetlands etc etc. Every time you purchase a firearm or ammo there is an 11% Federal Excise Tax for these purposes. so the next time you see an endangered species has come off the 'endangered' list. please thank our hunters and shooters.

and regarding the above link you referred to, yes it does remind me of the potential for martial law indeed. it's another deadly blow on our constitution. the thought of removing the posse comitatus is incredibly frightening. The thought of troops being used in a domestic law enforcement capacity is a dreadful specter.

I don't really agree with any of this, but to say this thread is killing newbies IS an exaggeration. Where was all your righteous indignation when you made your previous posts in here?

Hang in there, Det. Whilst others think this is a total distraction from our addiction, which is true, no lie there, I also think it is important to talk about what matters to us beyond our addiction.

We are whole human beings, not just addicts.

I am not a Ron Paul supporter but I think it is awesome that you are doing something in a positive manner for our country. The US. We need all the help we can get. If others in other countries start working for their homeland, things will get better for everyone. That is my dream.

                  Love,

oh I'm fine Cinders, but thank you for your support. thanks also to the many folks that have PM'd me your words of encouragement. I must say I'm overwhelmed and surprised. This was really just a place to jot my thoughts on some issues on my mind and sort them out into a positive action plan, which I have now done.

I was very unhappy with the previous administration, and I'm also unhappy with the present one, so I have two choices: I can just be unhappy and join in the mindless and ignorant left vs right yelling and screaming, or I can take positive and constructive action to effect change. Thankfully I have chosen the latter and I'm now knee deep in paperwork as precinct coordinator for the campaign I have chosen to bolster. I truly hope that our freedoms will be held sacred under the next administration. Our freedom to medicate and nurture ourselves as we see fit, and to pursue our dreams without being molested terribly by enormous bureaucratic burdens. In that sense I'm really done with this thread as I've found my way.

                                That was one nasty spammer.

SOPA would kill the free of exchange of information on the internet. It is not about piracy. It is about control of information.

When Obama signed NDAA, he went down in my book as the worst president of all time. You'd have to appreciate my opinion of the unbelievably dismal Bush to understand how low my opinion of Obama is now.

I liked a lot of things about Paul, but what I didn't like, I didn't like a LOT.

Doesn't matter anyway. It's going to be Obama vs. Romney and I could not in good conscience vote for either of them. Maybe I'll just stay home come election day.
