    gastritis

    Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone has experience with gastritis? I am AF (been 17 days and moderating previoulsy, quite successfully), have been treated for Hyori helicobacter and still my stomach is very sensitive. I am avoiding all the other usual suspects......chilli, coffee etc. I am drinking plenty of water, taking my supps but tonight what I thought was a plain meal of vegetables and a few chickpeas has sent me into agony!

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. I juice my own friut and veg regularly and heard that potato juice was good (if not somewhat unpalatable!). Would Lysine help? Is it just a case of diet elimination to see what my stomach doesnt like?
    Thanks!

    So sorry g,

Elimination diet is probably the way to go. Have you tried eliminating gluten? I knew someone who could only eat potatoes for a long time.

Hi, thanks for that. I have been adding potato juice into my juice (kids looking at me like I have completely lost the plot!), and my stomach feels better today so maybe thats the secret?
Haven't tried glueten free but will give it a go!

          gastritis

          Hi Lav
Thanks for that article. The only "up side" of having this is that is really has shown me that my body can no longer handle alcohol, so its as a blessing in disguise and a relief! A serious wake up call!

Realise now that chickpeas and gastritis do not mix.......disaster!
          Thanks again

Oh my! Sounds explosive! Curious -- what's the thought behind potato (OMG) juice? What does it taste like and do you just put it through an electric juicer?

              gastritis

Hi, I was looking through one of my nutritional therapy books and it said that potato juice was very soothing for the stomach lining. On its own it can only be described as disgusting, but I mix it up with a friut based juice like watermelon, apple etc and you cant taste it. The juice is still somewhat starchy so I dont linger over it, but stomach feels markedly better today. Apparently cabbage juice is also very healing............?

Cabbage juice is surprisingly good! You might drink it in moderation unless you're going to be alone for awhile, if you know what I mean...

                  gastritis

I have been suffering from gastritis myself. Being woken up with severe pains. I put it down to brown rice as that was the only common denominator in both meals that I had an attack after. Funny I didn't have an attack while drinking and I am only in the early weeks of not. My body is going through the adjustment of change as I totally changed my diet and eating waaaayy more veggies and fruit than before.

I am taking a break from the rice and will embark on the elimination diet next week.
                  Peace

                    Hi Peacefull
It's very painful isn't it. I hope your pain is getting better? Funnily enough, one thing that I can eat is brown rice. I have started my elimination diet, so good luck with yours. I would be really interested to know what foods make your gastritis better or worse?
                    all the best

                      gastritis

Had another attack last night without having had any brown rice. I havent' gone through this in years, must be the change of diet. I do drink coffee still and know I need to cut that out. Will start weaning this weekend. I am afraid to eat, it strikes in the middle of the night and yes, it is soooo painful.

I hope the elimination diet helps, I can't go on like this.

                      Peace

                        gastritis

                        Hi Geranium,

I suffered from this a while back due I guess to alcoholic irritation. I was working with a chinese lady at the time who recommended fresh ginger juice - about a teaspoon or two and thin it a little with water if it's too strong. I tried it and got some relief but I was still drinking so one step forward and.....

One other thing she suggested which I didn't try was an asian meal called congee:-

Apparently it is an easily digested food which used as a general tonic for the unwell. Might be worth trying.

I hope it eases up for you soon.

                          Hi Crocster
Thanks for your post. Had a lovely sleep and have woken up to a beautiful morning here in the med, best of all, no pain. Will give the ginger a go and might even try the congee!

Peaceful, so hope your feeling better today? I think the elimination diet really helps as at least you feel you are taking control somehow. Totally understand how you feel about not eating. I have found eating little and often, and not letting my stomach get empty has really helped also. I snack on rice cakes and oat cakes, also helps with the blood sugar balance and the alcohol cravings.
Good luck, hope you feel better soon
