    AF Bloating!

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this. I've had lots of AF days since joining MOW - Oct 11 and currently on a run of 6 days. On this run I've been watching everything. Diet of veg, lean meat, bit of fish, eggs, salad, seeds & nuts. The only sugar craving I gave into was lightly cooked apples & pears with natural yoghurt and 2 small pckts of yoghurt peanuts. I buy organic where I can. Been on 6km walk everyday, Tibetan rites & exercise DVD. I've put on weight and the bloating is getting worse! Thoroughly depressing. I've always had a good diet (bar the vino of course). Gave up cigs too (10 a day only when drinking). Oh and supplementing with L-glut, high dose vits B&C, multi vit & milk thistle. Am I just expecting too much too soon? Many thanks if anyone has any help to offer.

hi FreeFly and huge kudos on the AF decision!

I'd be cautious about taking large doses of vitamins especially before your body really rebuilds it'self in it's new healthy state. The one exception would be L-glutamine which I'd keep taking since it's so important to rebuild the gut wall. Same thing for dairy. you may want to avoid those until your feeling really good then introduce them and monitor how it goes. your body is going through some huge changes so hang in there. I also had bloating, crazy mood swings, and all kinds of oddities first couple weeks AF.
    keep up the great work!

      weight

So you have been on alcohol and a good diet for six days? Maybe you need more time to see a change? But you have made some general changes in your diet for longer? You may not realize how many calories you were actually taking in. You can keep a journal to track it but perhaps you should focus on the big task of cutting drinking first. Also, nuts have a ton of calories. They are healthy but only in small doses. I gained weight on a healthy diet that included raw almonds, lean meat and veg and fruit before.
If your caloric intake is low for a decent period of time and you have quit drinking, let's say after a month, you may have some kind of metabolic issue. DoggyGirl has written a lot about that, maybe her past posts would help.

      Edit
Other things that are healthy and high calories: olive oil, as in salad dressing, fruit juice/smoothies.

Freefly, I am just the same - feel so bloated. Although I am definitely snacking at nights since I stopped smoking. It is getting me down but after reading here I suppose I will just have to persevere.....
I'm not much help right now so hope you get it sorted

FF - water with lemon jiuce helps, it is a diuretic, and at the same time is good for your liver, I drink a litre a day - fill my bottle in the morning and sip it continuously. I am not bloated when I do this. I am getting round due to eating candy and icecream instead of drinking, so have to face that!:H:H:H

Check your serving sizes. Even when I eat healthy I tend to eat more than I should. A good rule of thumb for me is to keep each meal no bigger than my fist.

Hi Freefly, I have exactly the same thing when I stop drinking. Like you healthy diet, no extra food, no calorific drinks etc AND also I was taking heaps of supplements. I felt so so bloated for about 3 weeks. Drank heaps of water, coconut water and I did all the right things.

Maybe metabolism slows when we stop drinking??

                I'm not sure ?

                Take care Patrice

                  Hi all
Thanks for the replies. I shall adjust accordingly. DT, perhaps I am taking too many supps to begin with ? that could make sense ? will reduce for a while, except the L-glut. Hi Lav, yes I do drink loads of water. I will add some lemon juice though ? thanks SL. Supercrew ? a fist ? really? Definitely been eating a bit more than that. Will reduce and give my stomach a chance to shrink! Best reduce the nuts too ? thanks Nancy. Hi Patrice & Daisy ? hopefully we?ll get through the bloat in a few weeks then with these extra tips.

Thanks again ? have a great day all

                    bloating

Forgot to mention, because you seem to be talking more about weight loss than bloating.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that your body can react badly to too many supplements if you are not used to them, something about the coating of the pills irritating the stomach. Maybe Determinator can comment on that, whether this is true, because someone posted a note about bloating in the General threads a while back.

Eased up on the supps today and only had 5mg L-glut so far. Will take another 5mg shortly. My stomach was feeling distended more in the evening but today so far, so good. I shall gauge things over the next few weeks and perhaps introduce gradually. I know I have candida overgrowth so that's something I really want and need to address. Not sure if I should continue now with grapefruit seed extract and acidophilus complex or just stick with L-glut for a bit. Any comments? Thank you

                        AF Bloating!

Bloating is usually caused by bacteria in the large intestine digesting fibre and creating gas as a bi-product. If you are eating lots of fibrous veggies, and nuts that is most likely the cause. And sometimes the filler in sups cause a gaseous reaction in the large intestine.

When you drink a hot beverage sipping it can cause gas to be swallowed along with the tea or coffee. Drinking pop also causes gas to be swallowed. This results in gas gathering in the stomach which has to work its way down through the small and large intestines.

Try eating less fibre or try Beano or GasX.
Ask yourselves, would you rather be a non drinker with an occasional desire to drink or a drinker with a constant desire to stop doing it?
