    L-glutamine - Unbelieveable

Day one on the Kudzu, liver detox and super enzymes - no change. I haven't got the L-Glut yet.

So day two, I'll see how it goes. We have a big beach party tonight - sooo easy to overdrink - I'm still unsure how to tackle these events.

    Next day:

Slight hangover, had about 7 ciders (over as many hours), but I wasn't really counting. The first one took a while to go down - maybe the Kudzu wears off??? At least I didn't go crazy.

AF day today - start working again tomorrow.

Does anyone know how the L-Glut powder works?

      FYI:

Found it in the health store:

Excessive alcohol consumption inhibits the synthesis and absorption of L-glutamine, which serves many critical functions. This powerful amino acid has been proven effective in double blind clinical trials to reduce cravings for alcohol. It is utilized as a brain food and energy source. Stores of L-Glutamine are depleted during times of high stress, and supplementation has been shown to reduce anxiety. L-Glutamine helps eliminate aggressive sugar and carbohydrate craving that many individuals experience during early alcohol withdrawal. (Alcohol is nearly biochemically identical to sugar.)

It's supposed to help with sugar cravings but when I don't drink I still get them sometimes. I think some of it's a positive attitude too.
If it works, don't knock it.
I get mine from Swanson. They have one called ajipure powder. Tastes pretty good to me but I am odd like that.

That could be due to the fact that sugar is in just about everything we consume.

I have been attempting to quit sugar, and eat bugger all- but still crave the alcohol, so I have to wonder if it has much to do with sugar

I just love the taste of alcohol - and my biggest problem aside from that is the fact that I gulp, not sip. Need a smaller mouth :H

How are you quitting sugar Trix, are you just stopping the obvious sugar that I know about, white sugar and cakes and sweets and stuff. Im interested when you say its in everything we consume, like what. I have tried wquitting sugar a few times but end up eating it again so I would love to know how your doing it. Maybe we could do it together. Also does L glut help with it, that would be great if it does.

Yep I gulp, never can sip drinks

              Hi Space,

If you start looking at the labels of food, you'll discover sugar is in just about everything you eat, besides the obvious, like soda drinks, chocolate, cakes & biscuits.

I'm not sure where you are located, but tomato sauce (ketchup) and bbq sauce are almost 50% sugar. Fruit is loaded, dried fruit, honey, flavoured yoghurt, anything flavoured etc.

Basically you eat pretty simplistically. I eat bacon & eggs for breakfast, most cereals are loaded with sugar. I eat a salad and chicken/meat - sometimes a salad sandwich for lunch and meat and salad or veg for dinner.

Cheese, milk (has lactose, but still relatively low in sugar 4%) is ok.

Alcohol is loaded - though red & white wine is the lowest in sugar - I breathed a sigh of relief when I read that.

A book called "sweet poison" by David Gillespie is a good read. Makes you realise how we have all been conned and tricked into a sweet addiction from babies.

Funnily enough, I have gotten my eating under control, wish it was that easy when it comes to drinking.

I haven't got my L-Glut yet, so frustrating, it should have been here 2 days ago.

I'm happy to share more if you're interested

I'm interested Trixibelle. I love sweets. I'm not sure if I can stop eating/drinking them. I can't imagine not drinking caffeinated drinks either. I don't drink a lot of sugary drinks, but I crave them if I give up eating them in solid form. I have done the low carb thing but it didn't last long for me...I've tried it more than once. I guess there's no need really to try and quit something that you have no desire to quit, like AL. I did quit that successfully so far.

I would just like to lose about 50-60 lbs, and I have no idea how. I didn't grow up overweight. I started putting on excess weight after taking anti-depressants, which I took for over 10 years...Then the daily drinking and eating crap food. At one point I lost nearly 20 lbs, but gained it back and then some.:upset:

                  Hi LG,

I have heard of a lot of people losing heaps of weight after quitting sugar. I can forward you a PDF of "I quit sugar" which is written by an Australian woman. It gives you a lot more info, or do a google search, there's stacks of info out there.

Quitting sugar is not easy though, especially if you like sweets. I am more of a savoury fan, but there is still heaps of sugar in a lot of that stuff too. Food manufactureres stuff sugar into everything to make it taste nice and make us addicted to their food.

Believe it or not, you become addicted to sugar just as you can become addicted to alcohol or smoking - except it stuffs around with your insulin responses and does other nasty shit to your system.

It's a lifestyle change, not just a few months and then I'll get back to how I was eating before, which has taken me about 25 years to realiseull

Yes I realize it's a lifestyle change, but not one I'm committed to undertaking. I will strive to eat healthier and eat less of the white stuff (flour, sugar), and I think that should help. Thanks for your reply.

Yeah it is and not an easy one - I'm not anal about it, I just do my best.

What you plan to do will do your health the world of good anyway.

BTW, the PDF was a freebie, I wasn't trying to sell you anything.

I've really started to get on the low carb bandwagon. (As well as low poly-unsaturated vegetable oil - but that's another topic.) There's just more and more evidence of the harm that too much sugar (simple and complex) does to us. For so long we were told that fats were the enemy - there was low-fat everything. But the fat calories were replaced with carbs and that may have been a mistake with increased health problems like type II diabetes, elevated cholesterol, and fatty liver disease.

I'm trying hard to decrease my carb intake, it's difficult when you have a sweet tooth. But it may also help with the alcohol cravings, so it gives me added incentive there.

All good LG, I didn't take any offence, I'll send it to you this weekend, (I'm at work now and I have it on my personal compter)

Pixie, you are completely right, all these years it's been low fat this, low fat that - and all the time they were loading up us to the hilt with sugar - making us nicely addicted so that we buy more.

As if we need another addiction!!!!

No wonder low fat diets never worked:shocked:

Hi Trixie sorry I havent been back, I am interested in when you say about milk and cheese being ok, I keep reading that milk is bad but its a thing I cant give up, I have to have my cups of tea.

What is the pdf, in fact I dont know what a pdf is is it info on sugar. Do you know about coconut oil. I have 2 pots here and am thinking of trying to start that of a morning, its supposed to be mega good for you. I said on another thread that I want to go low carb for 30 days, if I set a goal I can see what Im aiming for. I am also thinking that although Im not heavy enough for that to have damaged my back I think loosing weight can only help that as well.

I have started taking L glut again this week but I dont really notice any difference with it this time.

I read an article in the May 28th isssue of FIRST magazine and it makes sense. Every week you pick 2 consecutive days and go low carb...only 50 grams per day with unlimited protein and fat. No bread, pasta or root vegetables on those 2 days. The healthy protein and fats are chicken, fish, shellfish, eggs, nuts, seeds, olive oil and olives, as an example. I tried it last week and realized that is is HARD to find low carb foods...but I did it and I am going to do it again this week. People doing this lost more weight than people that cut their calories 7 days a week. Check it out...I am sure you can find it online!
