    L-glutamine - Unbelieveable

Thanks Space. Yes it will be a holiday but I think I am in control. I got most days without touching the stuff and allow myself a few drinks on the weekends. I am okay with that.
Vegas will be tough as the crowd I am with is young and I am sure will be partying it up. I will just take my time.
Booze and baclofen really zonks me anyways.

      Hi All,

That's interesting what you say Space, as I said the L-Glut is not doing much, and I'm taking a handful of other supps as well 3 times a day (with the L-Glut and Kudzu) in between. I've been on it for about 3 weeks now, so I don't hold much hope - but I'll continue.

I'll see how the CD's go, from the US they'll no doubt take a few weeks to get here, that's ok. I'm relying on my willpower at the moment, which fluctuates from day to day, as we all know.

It seems to be all about experimenting and seeing what works for each individual.

COS, you'll do well in Vegas, if it were me, I'd use the excuse that I'm an old boiler :H to get out of any potential drinking session. The youngens won't give a hoot if you bow out.

Anyway you have a good attitude and sound as though you are in a good mental state, so you'll have no worries.

Thanks Trixie. I am not sweating it. I feel much different these days with the baclofen. I've been to Vegas plenty so nothing for me to get caught up in. My brother lives there so I make the trip now and then.

I wonder if taking L-Glut (or any supplement) throughout the day at regular intervals is more "mind over body" than a real deterrent to cravings. Thinking it will work, or help, and actively doing something to help with cravings seems like it might have a bit of a placebo effect. Either way, it's a good thing, I think.

You've got it all together COS. Have a ball.

LG, I think you're right, if you convince yourself it's working and it does, well good luck. I wish it has been that way for me, and it very well may have taken the edge off of the cravings, but I was hoping it would take the cravings away, so I wouldn't have to take anything harder.

I also think, that I have given it soooo much consideration lately that I obsess over it, if I could put it to the back of my mind, it might lessen its power - just a thought.

The only thing that's taken my cravings away is time. Afraid that's the hard truth, for most. Still hard for me to believe that I couldn't go a day without drinking half a 750 ml bottle of rum or more, and then just nothing. I can't even hardly remember how difficult it was at first...must be like childbirth or something.:H:H

Trixie, something a co-worker of mine always says (and says it's a "home truth" she grew up hearing) is, "Where the mind goes...the body follows" (or in our case, the mouth).

Geez LibraryGirl, you've come a long way - well done :wd: I'm proud of you.

And as for the saying - I totally agree, though if I don't focus on drinking too much, I find myself reaching for another one and another one. I just need to occupy my mind through out the day on other things.

                But... I hear you.

                  Geez another boozy night.

Our 'weekend' friends arrived last night (Friday) and as usual invited us up to their place. I feel rude if we don't go, but they are party animals and really don't like early nights.

I prefer to have a few and get a good nights sleep under my belt - but they never ever take no for an answer, starting to annoy me because now I am hungover (albeit, mildly -but that's not the point)

I know I have to gently tell these people that while I don't mind having a few drinks, I do NOT want one big drinking session every weekend. :argh:

Try drinking very slowly in those situations. Keep a drink in front of you but sip it.

I dont know how old you are Trix but a party session every weekend would do me in nowadays. I could never drink slowly, thats my problem I either have to drink or not drink but trying to conciously drink slow just would drive me nuts and be impossible.

Maybe the thing is Trix that its your freinds who want to party not you, you dont have to go along with what they do, cant you make an excuse and leave earlier, tell them your tired or got to bee up early.

Yes, you could just skip the party. If they are friends then they could take it light. If they can't do that, well you are better off. I had to let some "friends" in my life go.

                            Hi everyone,

Thanks for you replies, I agree with all of you - though COS while I consciously try drink slowly, I always seem to get that drink down much quicker than I had planned. Skipping the invitations is tricky, they live a fews door down. If we don't go there, they'll be up here. It's better to be there, because I have no idea what time they would ever leave, these people don't believe in early nights.

Space, I'm 47 in September and I am finding that one big night every week (2 big ones lately) is too much to get over. I don't sleep that well, so I feel like crap the next morning, even the mornings I don't have a big night. These people are in their mid 40's, so age is not going to be a valid point, though my hubby is almost 55 and he suffers too much - he doesnt want to have too many big nights either, even though he's a big drinker.

As for the supplements Destiniey, I have slipped of late, I just couldn't see any benefits and I dropped the L-Glut and Kudzu a few days ago while my daughter was staying here. I plan to get back into it today. I am modding, I can control things most times, though I find I just cannot have a drink, which then leads to more than I want to drink on a daily basis.

Excuses such as 'we have to get up early' - 'we don't want to be hungover' - 'we're tired from last night' - 'I feel like crap the next morning' are all met with 'deal with it and just get over it' - it drives me nuts.

Anyway this is my problem and I will deal with it - I plan to laugh at her and just leave anyway. Odd thing is she has a friend who constantly tells her what to do and she hates it - I'll be reminding her that she does the same thing to me.

Normally I am not so much of a push over, though I really like this woman when she is sober, she changes when she drinks.

Its hard but try to temporarily become one of those people who say what they want and stick to it! I have difficulty doing it myself and if I had friends who were neighbours I think I would find it hard as well, especially once Id had a drink but is it worth the haslte its causing you?

"though I really like this woman when she is sober, she changes when she drinks." most of us do.

She cant come and physically drag you and your hubby back out of bed if you leave early can she, let her deal with it and just get over it

I have been taking the L glut but cant say as I notice any difference between when I take it now and when I dont. My biggest reason for taking it is because it was expensive so I may as well. Im really not bothering much with suppliments the way I did anymore, still take B complex and Omega 3 tho.
