    MSM Powder

    Hi guys

Any of you using MSM (Methyl-sulfonyl-methane) powder, does it work, and is there some things one should take into consideration before taking it?

    Here's a link:

Dizzy, I haven't even heard of it, but it's cheap enough to try. Benefits seem to be great.

      Hi Dizzy,
I have taken MSM for years. Especially to maintain healthy, bones, skin and hair. I believe that it does help and I have had no side affects.

Are you looking for a natural supplement for curbing cravings for alcohol? If so, I highly recommend, L-Glutamine. 1000 mg's 4X's per day. You can also open a capsule to put under your tongue when sudden cravings hit. I believe that this was of huge benefit to me during the early months of sobriety. Again, I experienced no side affects.

      Best Wishes,
      Kate

        MSM Powder

        Hi Kate

I experienced a bad headache today, the second day I take the MSM. As for the L-Glut I had to stop taking it as it was giving me crippling headaches. I am on 50mg Topamax though and it is taking away all my biological cravings, so I'm good on that front.

However, I know that I am one of very few people to experience the L-Glut headache and I know it works for a large percentage of people and gives much less side effects than the Topa.

I'm under stress so I think I'll wait a day or two and then try a smaller dosage of the MSM. People say it allows the other supplements to be absorbed much more easily by your body?

Would love to hear from more people who have taken MSM. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

        :thanks:

Thanks, Dizzy, looks like great info. I've taken MSM before with no ill effect although glutamine makes me crazy/ADD.

I'll have to try to hide some in my dog's food although he's so fussy.... and it tastes pretty bad IMO.

            Thanks for stopping by, Bruun.

Hehe, I was half asleep when I read your reply and I imagined this lion sneaking some white powder into a dogs bowl and then I got the giggles

Interesting about the Glutamine, I've never heard that before. It seems to work for everyone on the Topa thread but me but then maybe it would work for me if it I didnt get the headaches. Anyway, I'm thankful for anything that helps anyone drink less, eh?

I don't think the MSM tastes too bad if you mix it in a quarter glass of water.

To feed our dog medicine I have to use tablets though. I put it inside a chunk of meat of cheese. Well, I need three, as although he's not the sharpest tool in the shed,he doesn't just trust it when food comes pouring from the heavens. So I toss him a titbit and after he samples it and checks that there is not bitter yucky stuff insides, he starts getting excited. Then I toss him the second 'loaded' one and he notices on the first bite. At this point he is starting to turn his back to me as he wants to go outside so he can spit out the chunk, dissect it and only eat the good bits, BUT now he sees the third treat. DILLEMMA. He knows that if he leaves he may not get the third as one of the cats might beat him to it. So he hastily swallows the nasty one and goes for the hat trick. Score!

What do you mean you can tell I work from home and I have too much time on my hands?

Dizzy, I use MSM for my older horses
I've just started Trouble on it about 2 months ago and am finding less creaking in his joints.

I had no idea it was used for humans as well! Thank you; I've learned something!

Pleasure, I didn't know until I saw that link that animals could use it. But come to think of it we are actually silly to think of people medicine and animal medicine. Granted, you can't just give any for or medicine to an animal (or human for that matter!) but there is a lot more correlation than you may think.

I think vets and doctors often just don't tell us because they are scared that people will start using their pills on their dogs and rightly so. Both people and animals can use the same asthma and I also know of them using the same allergy medications such as prednisone etc.

Hi! L-Glutamin creates free form MSG in the body. I have become so sensitive to all the forms of free MSG that I can only take one mineral supplement I've found - no vitamins without having a major reaction. I have been doing a lot of research on MSG since I have food allergies / intolerances. I was shocked to find out how many ingredients are 'free MSG' that turn into MSG in the body. MSG is an excitotoxin & kills brain cells as well as giving people headaches, migraines and creates behavioral changes & often anger & even violent behavior. Do a search for hidden MSG and you'll see different websites. Also do a search for MSG+headaches or whatever symptoms you experienced. Dr Blaylock is featured in several videos on You Tube. There are 2 of him speaking in a lecture type forum and another 2 I saw him on the 700 Club and also on a 'online video interview' over the computer - technology, right? what would I do without Google. Have a lot more free time! HA! The one video that speaks about hypoglycemia, alcohol consumption, violent behavior of felons & how MSG is involved is very informative. I thought you might like to know - it's changing my life and my dad's life since I'm giving MSG the boot in all it's hidden forms....and Annatto and Carrageenan. Look those up too. They're bad news even though all three are considered natural ingredients and are found in many packaged foods. I hope that helps you out!

Restoration - thanks for this post. I've often wondered why L-Glut gave me such horrid headaches. I don't have any reaction from most vits or supps, so I was confused and disappointed since it's such a great craving killer. I will be doing some serious research. Good info to know.
