    Gardening

WOW! Everyone's garden look SO wonderful!

I am SO flipping behind on mine considering where I live and that we can grow 365 days a year. But here is my start for the spring - a raised bed garden I built about 12 years ago and rabbit proofed. Also gopher proofed under the raised beds, but they make a mess around the beds trying to get tunneling around them!

But at least the tomatoes and pppers are in, stawberries frim last year are starting to bare nice fruit, the basil is almost about to be trimmed .. and only 5 more days before I can get back out there and work on it more!

          Beautiful gardens everyone!!

Gardening has become one of my most enjoyable sober hobbies! I just planted tomatoes today.

Also, like you NoraC.... I just lined the brick wall between myself and my neighbours with plants. I live in a townhouse.

It is so nice and sunny today. I think I may just head to the nursery after I pick Little AFM up from school and see what else I can find. My front yard area is done, need some more for my pack patio.

          Have a great day!

Garden question, please! I lived in the south for many years and always had a beautiful Gardenia outside my bedroom window. Tis my favorite flower. I want to grow one here (cold north) and almost did in a pot a couple of years ago. The problem is with the blooms. Anyone familiar with the northern gardenia?

Nora, love the flowers and veggies together! And, that one hanging planter you've got there is just stunning! So is your Morning Glory, for that matter!

WTE.... Holy! That is one awesome veggie garden!!!! But, you're gonna have to let us have a closer look!

                Aha!
I finally figured out that what I frequently refer to as 'that purple shit' is Creeping Bellflower. Indeed invasive as hell. But my idea to put it where yard meets woods is spot on. That's where it naturally grows.

How's everyone's garden adventure coming along?

                  Sunny G,your garden is stunning.

WTE, I agree, you'll have to give us some close ups of that very intricate garden of yours.

                  Litchi
, am afraid I don?t know Gardenia?s but I?ll ask my mom, perhaps she?ll know. Oh and my friend Google knows most things

                  Nora
, ha! I forgot about my Morning Glory seeds, they are going to be soaked today along with some peanuts and I will plant them tomorrow.

OK so although my bf is a royal ass at the moment, I?m lucky enough to share my lovely cottage with my brother, who happens to be fairly handy. It took a bit of nagging and some elbow grease, but I finally inspired him to build me a greenhouse. I lugged the table from the deserted neighbours yard (its a plot so everything flows together with no locked bits) and made it stand in front of the gate until he passed it enough times for it to trigger is Inspector Gadget brain.

See, the problem is this, as I only went sober in March, I missed out on Spring and Summer and now I have lots of plants in full bloom that will probably die in Winter. Also, I hate losing some of my favourite herbs to winter every year. Perhaps I can even grow mushrooms in there?

So here are all my beds full of summer

I have a table on the patio where I keep my seedlings.

The shade netting and vine works a treat in hot summer months but you can understand the problem with winter approaching.

I also have lots of other beds filled with coriander, rocket, tomatoes, which are summer crops.

This is mostly tomato which must still fruit. Yes, I know there is grass everywhere, I have a date with the gardener on Saturday, we are both going to work our asses off to get this garden in gear for Winter.

Even the Jalapenos were late and now they are like tiny and burn like hell.

                  Wheat grass anyone?

So this is what he built, the structure is wood with iron mesh and he put plastic pipes (with with plastic sheeting over it. He even put in a mini irrigation system

Here is a peak inside. I?m obviously not going to move all the plants I showed you BUT the Catnip will be much safer, I have some free standing tomatoes, basil and chilis, and I will be able to propagate seedlings in here throughout winter.

The whole project cost about R500 of which I will pay half but we have some clever plans in the pipeline which means that this baby would?ve paid for itself in about a month?s time!

                      Gardening

Hi everyone - okay - I have tried posting pics and can do it - except they are small - but here are some of my raised beds!!

One with spuds, one with peppers, beetroot, radishes (you can't see the beetroot 'cos it is still small and the pic is tiny) and one with tomatoes, carrots (tiny still) and brussel sprouts!

Oh I can hardly believe I can actually DO this! the pics - not the raised beds- LOL

Nora, Sunny G, WTE - your gardens are all awesome !!!!!! Just wonderful - I don't have much going in mine yet - although having said that if I look around I suppose I do - I shall take some more pics on Frdiay when I am off. But you all have such wonderful gardens - mine is not going to look much after those - but you know what - it is mine and I love it so it doesn't matter and I shall show it with pride....... thanks you for showing yours - you should all be proud of yourselves too!! Lots of work involved there!! Dizzy - you too have so much going on in yours - do you juice your wheat grass?

                                Worms

Worms have multiple "Heads" central nervous systems centers throughout their bodies.......I read I think up to 4-6 per worm. I would start with a fresh set or dig them up in the yard, start chopping them in half and you will speed their growth numbers big time. Or take your damaged worms and cut them in half. I recently turned up my soil and felt horrible and yet good at the same time knowing that the single bugger who I just cut in half with my 12 inch spade was now 2 buggers in their organic world. Maybe google worms dried out for a solution. :upset:
