Please dont people go chopping up your worms, the do not multiply, the head end can survive if its not too bably damaged but while the tail end may wiggle around for up to a few hours it is dead.

I'm happy to say that my worms are all still in one piece. I'm following WTE's advice and I think in the past when I was not forgetting about them I was killing them with kindness. So now I regularly check that they still have food and that the container is still moist and other than that I let them be. So far, so good.

:thanks:

Why do you keep worms?

Well, I explained it at the beginning of the thread. Its a worm farm that I keep for composting purposes. They eat kitchen scraps, create compost and their wee makes really good fertiliser.

Okay - update on my raised beds, also a pic of the lavender along the side of my house.... and some of the flowers out the front - I also have some cosmos and zinnia seeds coming up but they are small yet.....

the other two are my dogs, Daisy, and katie - our new addition

hugs, sun

These are probably all small pics - but I am not sure how to make them bigger - Attached files

Gardening

We had a worm box years ago. I think it was a Boy Scout project my son did. The worms loved it - they multiplied and what they produced was fantastic stuff. I just had 4 small raised beds for a garden at the time, and after the project was over, the worms were dumped into one of them. That one bed always had the best soil ever!

On to my current teeny veggie garden. The 2 tomatoes look great, as does the squash and pepper. But something has eaten practically all of 1 of the okras, although the other 3 look fine. And ideas about what could be doing this?

Or does it really matter? Should I just get some anti-insect dust to sprinkle? This is in town, so I'm sure deer wouldn't be a problem.

It's purdy! I think the pics are big enough.
And the plants are mighty big. Did you feed them super duper stuff or is this a different raised bed?
The lavender is also much nicer than the one I have.

I think she did plant Daisy, MB...she looks especially loopy in that pic.
I told Sunny not to let her eat from her 'special medicinal' plants. LOL.

Didn't see you there HG! Happy to see you around. :l

Have never grown Okra but I'm guessing worms or snails. You can make your own organic pesticide. Its inexpensive, the only downside is if you don't like the smell of garlic and you have to reapply after it rains.

PS: Look back a bit on this thread, we talked a bit about snails and organic pesticides then too.

Jan and diz - you cracked me up - having just had a 'thing' with a contractor, I really needed a laugh - and you two gave it to me !!!!!! yes, I have to admit, Daisy does look a tad stoned there doesn't she?? Jan - you are funny - and Diz - your answers - priceless! Thank you both of you for cheering me up....

No Diz, I haven't fed the plants anything - I talk to them!!! tell them they have two choices! The lavender in my garden always does well - I have it all over - I will take some more pics tomorrow.....

The first bed is tomatoes, carrots and brussel sprouts, the second raised bed is my peppers and the beetroot coming along nicely. third bed is spinach and beans and the bottom one which you can hardly see is spuds.

Thanks for the laugh - you have NO idea how much I needed it !!!

Gardening

Hi all, as you know I havent been able to do much in my gerden but that doesnt mean nothing been happening out there. My balckbirds eggs have hatched, dont know how many babies there are but I have seen one peeing up over the edge Mummy and Daddy blackbird are busy going back and forward with worms and stuff and its all lovely down there at the bottom of my overgrown patch. I have put an old bike on the ground underneath the nest so my dogs cant jump up to it and am trying to keep an eye on them. I though the blackbirds where destined to go the way the starlings went but I think these may well have a happy ending.

Damn does that mean they will be back every year to cause me this stress

Edit: I was just going to correct the spelling there but thought it was funnier the way I wrote it, obviously the baby way peeking over the edge not peeing :H
