    Why Eat Sprouts?

Do you just do them in jars or do you have one of those stackable containers? Sounds yummy!

I have one of those stacking gizmos. They are easier to manage than the jars. But jars are free, so that is a plus.

Yes, must find stacking gizmo. I think it's a good investment. I love sprouts, and where I live has limited access to grocery stores so I always have to plan for my shopping. Having fresh sprouts would be great to add to salads or sandwiches on the spot.

My apologies Spacebebe. I just saw this now. I was told she was mastiff and rottie when I re-homed her just over a year ago. This fall I happened to meet one of her previous owners. Apparently she is full pit bull but they did not want a black mark following her when they had to give her up so fudged the truth. She is a real sweetie but does have issues with other dogs sometimes. She actually shook a yappy little shitzu this fall and it required surgery for a separated muscle. It's like she went into another zone while it was happening but I knew she felt bad after. When she first met my cat she actually trembled when it hissed at her. I really think she was afraid of what she might do to it. Today I took a pic of them laying head to head. So cute. Hmm didn't intend to write a book. I do love her so much as I'm sure you love your terriers.

My sprouts went a bit mouldy (I think it was mould) in the stacker. What happened? I changed water all the time (this was first time using it, so it was clean!) Love the sprouts too, so convenient!

Blondie, are you spraying ample water over all of the sprouts? If you do this twice daily, mold doesn't usually have a chance to get established.

                Why Eat Sprouts?

I'm put some alfalfa sprouts in a mason jar two days ago to sprout for my smoothies. It is a great little garden in your kitchen and easy. I used to grow them years back and quit. So this week I pulled out my jar and lids and threw some seeds in. I figure they'd be a good addition to the veggie/fruit smootie I drink daily. I grind up hemp seeds for protein in them, too. I was using Flax seeds and sometimes pumpkin and sesame seeds, but I switched to Hemp because they are a good source of protein. I can't use soy or dairy protein.

I'll check your link out Dizzy. I need to get some more seeds to keep it up and want a variety, not just alfalfa. All you need is some mason jars and the seeds. You can buy special lids or use cheesecloth over the top. It's easy!

I think since you're in a warmer climate you would be at higher risk of mould. People use food grade peroxide to either spray on or rinse their sprouts to prevent mould. I would try that.

Iad, my husband says to our dog, " would you like to go sprout???"

Perhaps I wasn't spraying enough water. Thanks!

And thanks RC about the peroxide; I did read something about that but was hesitant using it. Will give it a go as I still have boxes of seeds!!

                        And thanks IAD
