Just make sure you get a quality vitamin. Preferably from a whole foods concentrate. Chemically synthesized vitamins are not as easily absorbed by your body.
I would suggest just getting a really good B complex.

Yes, that's good way to take B-12. That will help with energy levels IF you are deficient with B-12. The shots work even better.
As far as I know Niacin (B-3) is not related to energy conversion. However, most alcoholics and heavy drinkers are deficient with Niacin.
That's why I just take a complex to make up for the abuse I did.

Yes, those aren't too tasty. When I was the nutrition director at a long term care facility we used to serve those up all the time before you could buy them at the store.
They don't taste too well. Fortunately most of our residents had long lost a good portion of their taste buds.

My dad was given Ensure when he was very ill and just skin and bones, around the same time I knew a guy who was in a very bad way with the drink and not eating, in bad shape so I took him some of the Ensures round, he thought they were fantastic, URG.

Why Im asking about the B3 is a while ago I read a few articles about it being good for depression and bought a bottle but just left it in the cupboard. Because I have been depressed for the past 2 months or so I was wondering whether it would help me but cant find the stuff I read when I bought it.

I recall it saying that you take 3 capsules and will get a flush that lasts about 10 - 30mins or something like that.

I already take B complex, I have done for quite a long time, thats on my essentials list along with Omega 3, magnesium and vit c..

I used to take calcium and vit D, one tablet combined but stopped taking them 2 weeks ago after it was published about calcium suppliments being bad for the heart.

Isnt it odd that I take the advice about these things so seriously but still smoke, another bloody addiction I really want to ditch.

                          have you considered anti depressants??
They literally saved my life. After many years I am weaning off Paxil.
I have a friend that takes GABA for mood stabilization...

spacebebe, Lav mentioned Amoryn, if I've got that correct. She said it changed her life...I was interested in purchasing it. I think she said it was a natural anti-depressant.

You can get a niacin flush. You can get something similar from GABA supplements.

I wish vitamins and supplements held all the answers but quite simply they don't.
If you are lacking in one, yes it's a big deal.
If you are taking a good multi vitamin you should be covered if it's a good one. Mega doses of vitamins are overrated in my opinion.
I was really into that stuff years ago and I don't think it does much more than a placebo effect.
If you have chemical imbalances a vitamin is not going to do it.
I recall everyone pushing lithium orotate as mood balancer. Just another waste of money. Ever notice they come out with new supplements constantly saying they cure or improve this or that?
Remember when echinacea was the way to keep colds away? Turns out that was bunk. Recall the product that was out there for colds and turns out it screwed up your taste buds?
What about that one for flu that is made from duck liver extract? People swear by it. It's bunk, too. Almost no actual duck liver in it and there's no science behind it.

The best thing you can do is eat right. That is the best way to get your vitamins but a supplement is fine. Just don't believe all the hype.

Big pharmas can be evil but they do help a lot of folks and they have their uses.
