I'm particularly interested in vitamin C but any experiences would be great to hear.

There is a lot of stuff on the net, try it, apart from the diarrhoea and cost it might help. Long term high doses may also give you a rash

Pearl...you're on the right track. Drinking really robs our body of so many nutrients. The more savvy medical pros understand the value of dealing with all the biochemical repair that needs to take place once you detox. I have become a big believer in taking large doses of Vitamin C. I get the ascorbic acid powder from the health food store. It is cheap and yummy. I put it in my water bottle and refill again later if I remember. I even make a little serum for topical application. Does wonders for the skin. BUT...Kuya is right about the trots...although my body seems to be adjusting these days!
By the way...is that your pug in the pot? The photo is just darling. I have pugs. I haven't used them in a stew....yet.Sober for the Revolution!

the best way to get the vitamins you need is to eat them in your food. the combinations of vitamins in nature can't be replicated in a pill form.
and really, the only vitamins you might need to supplement, is vitamin d if you don't have sun exposure or b12 if you don't eat animal products.
just eat a rainbow of fruits and veg, and lots of nuts and seeds and your body will recover and be well.10-06-2012

Pearlbutterfly... There is a book called "Seven Weeks to Sobriety" by Joan Larson. It provides concise info on alcoholism and nutrition/supplements. Personally, I agree with high dose Vit C and they even use it to detox people in some rehabs amongst other medical uses. You may want to consider B-complex also as alkies are notoriously short of B's. And an amino blend.
I've taken handfulls of supplements daily for almost 25 years now. Given the beating my body took from all the AL, I reckon I would be in a very bad place if it hadn't been for the supps. I guess good genes played a part also, but I've had no real fallout from all the years of drinking. Everyone has their own opinion on supplements... personally, I am a firm believer in all things holistic supps included.
I recommend the book... then you can make your own mind up.
