    Acupuncture and CranioSacral therapy

I did a quick search and didn't see any threads specific to this topic, so I'm going to go ahead and post this.

I was talking with a co-worker yesterday, and she mentioned that her sister is an acupuncturist and also practices craniosacral therapy. I was intrigued and asked her what types of conditions respond well to these therapies.I was actually asking for a friend of mine who has a physical condition that hasn't responded well to conventional treatments. So imagine my surprise when she told me that a combination of these two therapies have a very good success rate for addiction. She only mentioned it, because she was telling me that her sister has started focusing her practice in that area due to the high success rate.

I have made the decision that I will throw anything and everything at AL this time around. I want to win this battle. So I have already made an appointment with a craniosacral therapist. But I am hesitating on the acupuncture - mostly due to the cost. My insurance won't cover it, and it can be expensive, but if it works, I'll pay anything.

So my question is has anyone tried either of these? I am anxious to hear if they made a difference. I'm probably going to give both a try. I'm still trying to locate an acupuncturist in my area. Too bad I can't use my co-workers sister. She really knows her stuff, but just too afraid my secret will get out at work.

    Acupuncture and CranioSacral therapy

    Hi there Moss,
I volunteer in a drug and alcohol and we use acupuncture and massage therapies for those in recovery. To be honest not sure if they use CranioSacral therapy, I know Indian head massages are given.

I know those who use both acupuncture and massage swear that it helps in their recovery.

Might be worth a try. Best to you.

      Acupuncture and CranioSacral therapy

Thanks Jackie - I'm going to try both. I know there is no magic bullet, but just looking for therapies that will help me stay the course. This combo sounds promising.

        Acupuncture and CranioSacral therapy

Hi Moss I have never heard of craniosacral therapy but I have had acupuncture several times. The first few times I had it it was free at a free clinic and they only put the needles in my ears, I had it several times as they told me the effect would improve with more goes but I never thought I got any benefit. My eldest son decided a few years ago the he wanted to pay for me to go for proper Chinese acupuncture in the China town in my city, it was great he used heat, very firm massage and then put in the needles on my back shoulders and neck, I had this done a couple of times but had to stop due to cost. Then the third time I put my name down at some place who had a grant to pay for people to get specific therapies, it was part of a university research programme and the woman I saw there used the needles all over my body from my forehead to my feet, I had a course of 6 treatments and really felt good during this time, I was also attending weekly yoga classes which I think also helped me feel better. I think if you decide to go for this you need to check out the therapists first and I would recommend you only go for the fully trained full body acupuncture not just the ear stuff, from the place I went to where they did the ear one I later found out that the people who worked there had only done a three day course to qualify to do it. Unfortunately for me once I stopped going for the therapies I slipped back into my old ways again.

How have you been doing moss I don't know your story, are you new to the site? I am mostly on the meds threads although I don't used any of the meds anymore I just got friendly with people on one thread so have stuck with them since, I have found a lot of support there.

I hope you find something that works for you, once I found that I haven't looked back since, we are all different so what works for one person doesn't always work for someone else.

LennyB- Glad to hear that your experience with cranio sacral therapy has been positive. I made an appointment last month and then had to cancel it, so I still haven't given it a try. But hoping to do it very soon. Maybe this week. Nice to meet you and glad you are here.
