I recently re-read a book called "Creating Sacred Space With Feng Shui: Learn the Art of Space Clearing and Bring New Energy into Your Life," by Karen Kingston. I am intrigued with the idea of creating sacred spaces within our homes and work environments. It made perfect sense to me. So, I figured I might as well give it a try.
Some of it is just common sense. Clear the clutter. Clean your home. So I did. It took weeks. Every night and for many hours each weekend, I started getting rid of things I no longer use. I also was careful to remove things that reminded me of my old life or reinforced old habits and patterns that no longer serve me. I didn't actually get rid of some things, rather I lovingly packed them up, said a prayer of gratitude for the memories, and put them in the garage. I wanted to open space for something new to come into my life. One day, I hope to fall in love again. But as long as I was still surrounded by reminders of my marriage, it was hard for me to let go and allow something new to come into my life.
Once I cleared the clutter - I cleaned. I mean, I really cleaned - every nook - every crevice. I tried to do it with love, gratitude and always with my intention of creating a loving, supportive, and tranquil home uppermost in my mind. I tried to be mindful in every detail - even when cleaning the toilets. LOL. There is such a better flow of energy in my home now. Everyone who visits mentions that "something just seems different here." And they mean it in a good way.
Then the space clearing part began. There are many websites dedicated to this practice. Some require all sorts of, in my opinion, unnecessary rituals and expensive equipment. For me, it was more about my intentions. I happen to collect singing bowls, so I used them to help clear the space. I let my bowls sing while I walked from room to room, praying that the old would be replaced with the new. I love singing bowls, but it could be anything you love - bells, chants, or music. I also am a lover of essential oils, and handcrafted incense...so I incorporated that into my space clearing. Basically, I removed the things from my home that I no longer loved or needed, and used the things I did cherish to infuse my home with peace and tranquility. Always with a prayer of thanks and gratitude. There are many books and websites that talk about using sound, herbs, essential oils and salt (yep - plain old salt), to banish bad vibes.
Okay - I'm sure there are quite a few of you out there thinking, "Moss has totally lost it." But I swear, my home just feels different, and happier these days.. I even started working on my cube at work. If nothing else, it has started a lot of conversations with my co-workers. Blessings, MR.
