I need to share this video with you all. It's 5 minutes long, and profound. I'm posting it here, because it seems like the right place. Food for the soul. Please don't focus on his reference to wine. That is his reality, not ours, but his message is so important. Ric Elias: 3 things I learned while my plane crashed | Video on TED.com This is not just for parents. It's really asking yourself, what is important to me and how do I get there? Minus the plane crash, of course.

Hi Moss: just watched Ted. Thanks for posting the link.
I had the surprising fortune to actually meet and speak extensively with a plane crash survivor - in fact she was the only one who made it. All her friends where killed and she was trapped in the wreckage for hours, legs shattered...she had to rip one of them out from under a seat to crawl out of the small plane she was on.
I was completely absorbed by her story and she said many similar things that Ted did- most notable that her final thoughts were filled with sadness for everything she hadn't done and especially for her parents who, because she was an only child, would be loosing their only child that night.
She said her mind was like a ping pong match- back and forth between denial and terror...then, finally she said acceptance and that was when this profound sadness hit her

But like Ted, she lived and she lived to tell about it to me and my girls one day at the dog park last year. She is a stunningly beautiful woman, very spiritual and almost ethereal. I haven't seen her much lately but when I do , I think she is counseling addicts. I don't ask...just a feeling from some of her conversation.

Thanks for posting the link, MossRose. It is good to be reminded about what is truly important. Just like on MWO, we don't have to try or experience everything ourselves if we stay open and listen to the people around us who are willing to open up and share what they've learned. You can tell he means (and now lives) everything he says in this video.

Kradle - that is an amazing, sad, beautiful (because she lived), horrifying and inspiring story. I can't imagine what she must have experienced. Thanks for sharing. This is truly humbling. Next time I feel bluesy about things, I will remember this.

NS - my favorite part of the video is where he talks about ego. He says he would "rather be happy than right." I'm sure his loved ones appreciate it too. A good lesson for me to learn going forward.
