    Agreed Pavati,i know i felt tons better when doing daily exercise,now to just get off my butt lately is the problem
    I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

    I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me":thumbsup:
    Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

      yes, exercise, good diet, some supplements, and also cut back on stimulants! coffee makes me crazy I realized after years of drinking massive amounts of it! I still drink a cup every few days, but I feel so much less anxious without all that caffeine! I have to say thought, that exercise is the most important thing for me. it helps me sleep better, think better, and feel more calm.

        Nice to see so many thoughtful replies. Pavati - I checked out the "3 tips." Good stuff and highly recommended. I haven't done jumping jacks since high school gym class, but think I may give it a try. I just hope I don't hurt myself. LOL.

        I keep seeing Seredyn recommended. Now I'm intrigued. It must work quite well. I definitely need to get back on the holistic track.

        I recently decided to follow my new doctors advice and tried Zoloft. It was a disaster. Never again for me. I know it works for many people, and I would never discourage anyone from trying it. But it just didn't mesh well for me. So going back on my all-natural cocktail of herbs and vitamins and hoping for the best. They were working before. I wish I had just stuck with it.

        Have a wonderful night everyone. We have an ice storm in my part of the world and 12 inches of snow coming tomorrow...so just digging in and getting cozy.

            You too, NS. Hope yours are wonderful. Only one more day of work for me on Monday, and then I'm off until January 3rd. Woo Hoo! Taking a trip home to visit friends. That will be the best remedy for anxiety that I can imagine.

              I swear by Vitamin C. Have been taking it for years and probably b/c it was making me feel and cope better. Now if I skip a few days by mistake I ask myself where is this freakin' anxiety coming from and a quick review always leads me to C. Vitamin C ? Cortisol & Stress | Help Anxiety

                I second this post. I now drink tea instead of coffee and feel calmer and more focused. Science says it's the L-theanine in tea because it stimulates alpha brain waves.

                  I'm so glad to see that this thread is still active. I was away from MWO for a while and stopped doing some of the things we have talked about here. Big mistake!! The anxiety came back with a vengeance. It's so nice to be back.

                  Being a coffee addict, it's hard for me to think of giving it up completely, but I am open to cutting back since it seems to be a common trigger. I like tea so it shouldn't be that difficult.

                  Early on, we talked about magnesium and I was taking an oral supplement but started reading about magnesium oil and how quickly it is absorbed through the skin into the blood stream, so I picked some up tonight from the health food store. I haven't tried it yet, but think it has promise. You just spray it on your skin. Sounds easy enough. Has anyone tried this? I'm also adding vitamin d to my list. I know I'm extremely deficient since I just got the results from some lab work. My doctor told me that it is very common in this part of the world (cold and dreary!!). I know that Vitamin D is linked to mood, so I am hopeful. And it never hurts to up the Vitamin C, right? It's helps everything else work better.

                    I haven't tried the magnesium, but my doctor told me my Vitamin D deficiency was directly linked to drinking. Now, I take Vitamin, D, E, and C, as well as Niacin. Go online to PureEncapsulations.com. That's where I order my stuff. My doctor also recommended 5-HTP. I take it twice a day on an EMPTY stomach, when I first wake up and then mid-afternoon.                       Rusty, so nice to hear from you. I can't tell you how much better I feel now that I am taking Vitamin D. Never knew about the link to D deficiency and drinking, but it makes sense. Thanks for the link. I'm always looking for a good, reputable supplement company.

                      I have been using the magnesium oil for the last couple of days. It may be a placebo, but I think I slept better last night. One word of warning - it stings. Not bad, but you'll notice it. I read that if you spray it on, wait 20 minutes, and then take a shower, it does it's magic, and you don't have to leave it on your skin. Worked like a charm this morning.

                          Betty - used your idea last night. I have finally started exercising and it is definitely helping my mood, but I was so sore, I couldn't move. Someone please tell me it won't always be like this. So I thought - magnesium, hot bath...yes! Thanks for the tip. A really inexpensive, and relaxing way to get more magnesium into our system.

                            OK MossRose, I'll tell you: It won't always be like this - you'll get used to it. Exercise does not need to hurt, just pace yourself and give your body time to adapt to the new level of activity.

                            And my 2 cents for the bath: I use "nigari" from Japan in my baths, found it in some organic food store. It's magnesium chloride derived from seawater. Very relaxing for the muscles, nothing else I used compares to it.

                              Johnnyb - thanks for the encouraging words. I can't ever seem to pace myself, so of course I have managed to do more harm than good right out of the gate. This is one lesson I won't forget. But, I'm not giving up because I know that exercising is improving my mood. But you are certainly right - it shouldn't hurt quite this much. Guess I need to ease into it. I'm very interested in "nigari." Hope I can find it locally, but if not, I am sure I can order it online.

                                Hi all- I thought I'd jump in and say thanks for all the great recommendations. I have added some supps and they're doing a world of good. I take Vits C, D, and B, and magnesium. On top of this I added a supp called "StressGuard" that has a few things like passionflower, theanine, and valerian, and also a Rhodiola supplement. That, plus a largely healthy whole-food diet (gluten free but not carb-free- starchy carbs like rice and sweet potatoes are still important IMO) as well as exercise 3x a week have done wonders for me. I also take Seredyn when feeling particulary stressed/anxious and it does seem to noticeably help.

                                Sometimes I wonder if I'm just filling up my body with placebos but I don't think that's the case. I do feel like I'm replenishing my body/mind with healthy things that I've long been deficient in due to my decades of alcoholic drinking. Of course, alcohol is one of the biggest anxiety-producing substances so getting rid of drinking was the first and most important step for this and all the other obvious reasons.

                                One word of caution- I've heard on various health podcasts that if you take an antidepressant, you shouldn't take 5HTP on top of it. Same with St. John's Wort. Apparently an overload of seratonin can be not good. Of course I'm not a doctor and I may be saying it wrong or have the information wrong. The point being, if you're on an AD, check with a physician or a naturopath to rule out cross-indications or whatever they're called.

                                Anyway, thanks for all the great recommendations.
