    Broccoli extract juice

    Hi,

In an effort to get as many vegetables in my body as I can I have been drinking broccoli extract juice. It is quite expensive but one of the reasons I purchased it is because broccoli is good for arthritis.

    Am I wasting my money?

    Any feedback gratefully received.

It is perfectly fine to spend money on Broccoli juice if is very good for arthritis. Take more and more green vegetable juices in order to stay fit and healthy.

Caro, can you get fresh local broccoli from a farmers market and juice your own? just a thought.

ps... trivia for the day: after 7 weeks broccoli loses the vast majority of it's nutritional value. Sadly that's about how old it is when you buy it at a regular grocery market.

I was just reading how good broccoli sprouts are for you, and that by the time they reach maturity (and the grocery shelves), they've lost much of their health benefits. I can only imagine that broccoli extract juice would maintain it's health giving properties better than what we can find, out of season, at the grocery store.

"Small quantities of fresh broccoli sprouts contain as much cancer protection as larger amounts of the mature vegetable sold in food markets, according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University" (Broccoli Sprouts - sorry too lazy to find and cite the actual study). Anyway, I would think there is a benefit to the extract.

I'm a daily juicer, but for some reason, broccoli never makes it into the mix because of the strong taste. So I will be very interested in your results. I saw a product called "brocco sprouts" in the veggie aisle at the store yesterday, and was tempted, but the price made me take a pass. Keep us posted.

edit - I realize this study speaks of it's anti-cancer properties, but anything that alkalizes the body is also good for inflammation - which aggravates arthritis - so that's what I was trying to say

Moss, fantastic! I totally forgot about broco sprouts (and I have grown them). you get the seeds from a local or online source and grow them in a jar on your table top. they grow in only about 5 days. they do have a very strong flavor but in a salad they are tops. I don't like to juice for a variety of reasons, so I prefer fresh home-grown sprouts which cost a tiny fraction of what they'd cost at 'whole foods' or other specialty shops. there are all kinds of micro greens you can grow very easily at home in 'sprouting jars'

Det - I actually prefer real food to juicing too, but have never tried sprouting at home. I'm a gardener, so it makes sense. Going to give it a shot. Thanks.

I do some juicing and smoothies and will have a garden when the weather warms up. Nothing like the flavor of veggies from the garden...I had no idea all these years. And I dont use any chemicals on my veggies either. Would love a greenhouse but that is very expensive. I can always dream.

                  Hi Caro!

Check out the Netflix doc FatSick and Nearly dead- a very informative and fun look at this mans health journey thru juicing.

There is SO much more out there than just broccoli ....that's only the beginning! I think there is actually a juicing thread somewhere on here...I'll go look.

Kradle - this documentary is what got me juicing in the first place.

Caro, if you haven't seen it, here's a link to the entire film on his website: Watch the film Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead for Free. | Reboot With Joe

I know we are getting far afield from your original question, but this documentary may answer some of your questions. Are you still drinking the extract, and if so, do you notice any difference in how you feel?

                      Dear All,

Sorry i have not replied to your posts sooner, and thank you for taking the time to comment.

I stopped taking the juice because of the cost, however, i am going to give it another go.

I have ordered some more from my local health shop and will post the link to its website if anybody is interested.

This time I am going to be a bit more scientific about any perceived benefits.

I will keep you all posted.

                      Caro
