    Fasting pre and post chemo

Hi MHP! Made it back from our trip a day early due to crappy weather. I always get a little sad when I have to head home early but I was missing my MWO peeps and needed to check in to see how you were doing. I love the hat! I'm glad you are going to consult someone about the diet. Hopefully, you'll find someone that you like and trust to help you through this. Sending healing thoughts your way!!

BTW.... I stayed AF!! Funny... I almost forgot to post that!

Hey, that hat is much nicer than the beauty I sent to you :H!

I hope you find a good nutrition counselor whose philosophy fits well with yours.

Did your altered approach to yesterday keep you out of "sick mode"? It's interesting how some daily rituals can help keep things as normal as possible.

      Thinking of you often, NS

        Hi MHP,

That type of hat you so elegantly modelled is very big in the UK!

I must admit I did chuckle when your kids commented on ''the look''.

Hope your having a better day.

        Hugs

Hey everyone, I know Caro right? the hat is awesome I don't wear it out much btw, and yes NS it is a little different to the pic you sent me, same colour though ha. I've got a little '20's style number that I do wear when I go out, that's really cute.

Ginger!! good on you for staying AF. Brilliant. It's funny how we can just do our everyday stuff and then when we put our heads up think, wow, I did that. Me. I don't think we recognize just how big and how good the wins are sometimes.

Yesterday was good and today will be better. I love Fridays, my husband is home and it is brilliant. I'm waiting to get a referral on the diet side of things. In the interim, I'm off to get some prunes - ahem....medication taking its toll in that respect.

Have a gorgeous day everyone. x

Happy - I was just doing some lurking and found this thread - I don't have anything to add to the rich discussion as I have no actual knowledge as to what you are going thru, but your proactive attitude is to be commended.
You have also given me more resolve to keep on this path that I (and we) are on. To have the fortitude to face what life sends us and to make something positive from it is pretty damn incredible.
Hats off to you brave lady - or maybe it is hats on!!!
I have gained such a lot from reading this thread - (NS, I have known for a while what an amazing lady you are, and here is some more...) - sending positive vibes your way Happy:l

Hi SL :l lovely for you to pop in. And you're spot on about NS. She is a great source of info and a lovely lady.

I was thinking today how good it is to have this thread in lots of ways and the people following are such a huge part of that. Thank you.

I have found someone to unload my diet dramas on. A clinical nutritionist and naturopath specialising in cancer and auto-immune disease. I see her tomorrow, called her today and we got to talking, she wasn't planning on working but is now fitting me in first thing. How good is that?

Something Tawny said to me holds true, that we are all at some time in our lives going to be in contact or know someone or have this disease. How we are with people and how we deal with it ourselves is so different in each case. There just aren't any guidelines in how we discuss and do deal with it and it is interesting and funny the things we all do and say. I'm just trying for honesty and humour. That's just musing there :H no deep thought or anything like that

How nice of her to make time for you so quickly! I'll be interested in hearing what you find out. Is she in your city or do you have to travel?

                  All the best - NS

                        Fasting pre and post chemo

                        Righto...just a food update.

Ketogenic diet is off the table. Back on the menu are carbs and I'm allowed one coffee a day if I can stomach it. Red meat at least 3 times a week. Casseroles, bone broths etc Greens only if blended and in casseroles, soups etc. 5-7 small meals a day. No raw milk - must be pasteurised - deli meats or soft cheeses, raw eggs etc. I'm on a pear juice a day to get the other end going. Probiotic prescribed. Kid's flavoured toothpaste too. BREAD!!! sourdough and crackers. Water flavoured with ginger cordial, lemon barley or fruit. I have to have my vitamin D levels checked. And also magnesium, been craving chocolate.

All in all, its probably how I was wanting to eat now. I just can't stomach too much more. And now I'm not feeling guilty about wanting hot chips or baked sweet potato or bread...yay! Of course it will change when I go on the week by week chemo, we move to a less meat more pulses, I think...but crossing that one when I get to it. Loved the nutritionist, very down to earth and when I said I want to vomit when I even think about some foods, totally understood. And she got that I felt like how I was eating seemed wrong, that I'm eating for a different circumstance and that the priority at this point is to keep my white cell count as high as I can, maintain weight and not feel fatigued. I'm feeling good about it.

NS, I'll email what she told me about ketosis to you when I get it from her next week? I'd like to discuss further x

What great news Happy - interesting you say that it was how you wnated to eat all in all - our bodies can be pretty good at telling us what they want/need if we can listen, well look how drinking made us feel I am glad that you had a good visit...

Great news, Happy! I'm so glad you found someone to work with that you trust. I'd be very interested in reading the information you received.

Does she want you to continue fasting before and after chemo? The study that is going on at Mayo's is doing the fasting protocol without the ketogenic diet between treatments, I think.

Yes NS! she was happy with both the idea and the results from the fasting and is up to date with the research. And more the note we saw the other day about what to eat post chemo - the 24 hour fast then ease back with simple carbs. I can't remember exactly what she said about the keto diet but thought it best to confirm with her then let you know.
