    Fasting pre and post chemo

How interesting that you are hungrier than usual! Does stuff taste good? You sure hear the opposite more often with people just forcing themselves to get something down. I guess it is a blessing in general but a curse for the fasting protocol.

I don't know for sure what porridge is. Oatmeal?

Yes, Oatmeal NS. I like this recipe even though ayurvedically speaking you shouldn't have the fruit

Porridge with Vanilla Bean, Apple, Cinnamon + Hazelnut Crumble : The Healthy Chef – Teresa Cutter

She's got a recipe for quinoa porridge on that site too.

Food is still tasting good. Tea tastes feral though. Switched to a dandelion tea and that tastes great. My mouth is still good, developing a little ulcer in one spot but just using some TLC, sticking to the coconut oil pulling and bicarb rinse pre and post eating.

I'm thinking of upping my fat content to try to satiate the hunger a bit. The call for toast or sweet carbs seems to adjust after having half an avocado or a spoonful of coconut oil to eat. Tomorrow I'm going to make - or boss people into making!! - a raw carrot cake with cashew nut icing. Love it.

So, I did make the carrot cake - kind of a combo of both of the above recipes and added some cardamom seeds too. Small slice with full fat yoghurt, was delicious.

I agreed with so many of the ideas on the list - just haven't managed to achieve them all yet!

I hope you're feeling well today, MHP.

Do you like cabbage? I made garlicky grilled cabbage steaks tonight - delicious and they would be ok for your diet, I think.

Hey NS. Me too re the list! and yep, feeling good today about to put my head down for a rest soon though.

I taught yoga this morning which was not as challenging as last week. I listened to my own words and kept breathing, it works.

Re the diet, I have been good BUT a friend sent some mud cake cake pops in a bouquet on Friday and bang, it was on. I am glad I've got the no drink policy in my head, if the cake pops are any indication, its just opening a flood gate to a full scale sugar craving. Mostly cake. I'm back on track after that little slide though. Staying focussed is key and just not allowing anything to slip by.

Had a bit of an angry moment or two over the course of yesterday, mostly around my expectations of myself and some of other peoples expectations of me. It's hard not to drive yourself to DO stuff. And I've been thinking its funny how we teach our kids so many things, yet teaching them to relax and do it without guilt isn't one of them. We show by example that stress release is obtained from sitting down with a drink, a cigarette or whatever, not just BEING.

It's hard to figure out the role of Sick Mom, isn't it? (Especially if you're normally Do It All Mom). I had that experience a couple times (once when I was essentially unable to walk for ~ 3 mo due to an injury) and I was amazed at how much my self-image was tied up with what I DO as opposed to who I AM. Interestingly, my adult daughter has taught me a lot about how to relax - she is excellent at setting boundaries, unplugging, self-care... Sometimes my initial thought is that she is being lazy or selfish but when I look at the whole picture, I'm impressed and try to learn from her.

So, to make the Cabbage Steaks, cut off the hardest part of the core at the bottom and then stand the cabbage up, core side down. Cut into 1/2-3/4" slices. They tend to fall apart but will keep the basic shape.

Generously smear olive oil over a large pan with edges. Sprinkle with garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, whatever sounds good to you. Place "steaks" on the pan and then drizzle olive oil and more spices on top. I usually do the same thing to a large sweet onion at the same time so there are Onion Steaks as well. Last night I stuck several peeled garlic cloves between the cabbage rings of each steak and that was really tasty.

Cook on the top rack of the oven at ~400-425 F for 60 min, turning steaks over after 30 min. There is some wiggle room on the time and temp, depending on how thick the steaks are. Check every 15 ' or so and adjust as needed.

The edge pieces tend to caramelize or even burn. The crispy caramelized ones are the best parts in my opinion and the totally burned pieces can just be thrown out.

                              Hope you like them !

Love the sound of those. Will definitely make that part of the menu. And yes, I totally get what you mean with your daughter. My boys are similar and while I find it frustrating, there is a lesson there (although a kick up the bum - for mine - doesn't hurt sometimes either).

Today was good. Visit from an MWO buddy and her little family. Made me happy and a bit tearful too. Right from the time she walked in the door and hugged me, it broke me into tears. I don't often get like that, but she's a special one. Not "special"....you get my drift

I'm really tired now. Trying to get myself together to get some financial shit sorted so we know where we stand in the next while. And also looking at courses for studying yoga for cancer. So, not very motivated for my "real" work. Which needs to be attended to. Tomorrow though...
