    Fasting pre and post chemo

Morning all. Been off to do my bloods and going to have another relaxing day, I've turned the bed into my office which isn't good in some ways but really good in others if you know what I mean. Only have a few things to do then can rest up.

Funny, this time last year was mid through my yoga teacher training. I took a one month pass at a local hot yoga studio, to try something different and also to keep warm! Where I go to have my bloodwork done is a few doors up. Its kind of strange to think that every morning for a month last year I was in there, practicing and sweating, feeling really strong and healthy and now look what's going on. It really defines for me that life can flip you into a different path very quickly, so you really have to enjoy where you are and what you are doing now and don't take it for granted. Off my soapbox :H have a great now where ever you are x

Sorry, chemo brain. Ginge I watched the TED link, really interesting. I wondered what NS thought about it. There were a few points I wondered about but I'll come back to them later.

          Hi MHP,

I agree that one should enjoy life as much as possible, but I think it is universal that we (people in general) agree in that truth but somehow it is so hard to do.

You have probably got some good meditation books but I would like to recommend one if you are interested. It is helping me a lot at the moment. I have anxiety, among other things, and severe arthritis. Nothing I must stress to compare what you are going through.

"Mindfulness for Health - a practical guide to relieving pain, reducing stress and restoring wellbeing"

          Vidyamala Birch and Danny Penman

It covers all different types of illnesses and since I have been doing the meditations (it comes with a CD) my pain levels have definitely decreased. My mood has improved. Still early days. The authors of the book, both have severe chronic ill health so know what they are on about.

It is a very positive book.

Anyway, sending you lots of positive vibes and hoping you having a good day.

          Love

          caro x

MHP, it's funny you should mention what you were doing a year ago. Today I took a hike. Just me and my dog and you popped into my mind. That is exactly what I wondered. Where was MHP a year ago? Strange... thanks for telling us.

The mountains always recharge my battery and help me live in the NOW. Thinking of you and sending you boat loads of healing energy.

Happy - your soapbox was wonderful and timely - had a crappy day at work and have been "whining" on another thread about it - I needed some perspective, and we get bad days, no need to allow them to bring us down is there? Thank you for reminding me of what I need to be grateful for - I promise to book my overdue mammogram tomorrow and to have an attitude adjustment RIGHT NOW! i will stop taking it for granted and I will have a "great now" right here where I am - Thank you:l:l

I'm just checking in again as I'm bored and ravenous...whining is allowed SL! x and you know I'm so glad you're getting your mammogram sorted. You'll be fine I just know, but get it done x

Caro, I'll keep a look out for that book, have a feeling I've seen it at my mentor's, will see if its there and then borrow it. Would love to do some walking Ginge, just thinking about a plan to do hiking as part of a holiday next year, when all of this is behind us. Would be perfect I think. I keep thinking that going to New Zealand would be cool, just maybe, we will see. It's a little light to look forward to.

                  Hi, Happy

I've been reading this evening about fasting protocols for treating type 2 diabetes - very promising stuff. I wonder what other problems are responsive to fasting.

I'm sorry you're so hungry. I hope your kids got the brownies out of the house.

Hang in there :l :h NS

                    NS I'd well believe it.
In my simple logic. If the body is not off using vital energy digesting food then it's resources can be amassed to where they are needed.
That old saying 'Starve a cold - feed a fever' ?
I read that as if you do not starve a cold - you will
                    be feeding a fever later
                    Makes total sense to me.
Fasting been around since time began - even the bible has fasting 40 days etc.

Fascinating topic wish I had time to read more on it.
:h this thread ( did I say that before)

The "original" doctor understood the effects, even if he didn't know the mechanism:
"Everyone has a physician inside him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food. But to eat when you are sick is to feed your sickness."
                        - Hippocrates
"Instead of using medicine, rather, fast a day."
                        - Plutarch
An interesting point I was reading about yesterday was that most major religions embrace one form of fasting or another (Lent, Ramadan, monthly fast by Mormons, etc.) and the reason would not be to punish believers but because over time, it was realized that periodic fasts are beneficial. And now, the mechanisms explaining what Hippocrates knew and various cultures figured out are becoming known.

I hope your treatment goes well today, Happy. I'll be thinking of you :l.

Hey everyone. I'm baaaack...all went well. Not that I didn't think it would but it was simple. Had a great nurse who was chatty and everyone loved my head tattoo. I also spoke with my oncologist about the shaking and he believes its the Dexamethasone, so they can adjust the dose when I go to the 12 weeks cycle. So, all good.

Just back on fasting, last night I had a chicken broth with a few noodles in it. Its amazing how full you become from liquids, isn't it? So it calmed some of my most ravenous whinges, might stick to the same bone broth tonight too.

I love those quotes NS. Just adding too that I find when I am fasting my mind is generally clearer. There is more awareness somehow. Not that you'd see that in my posts though :H
