    Fasting pre and post chemo

Hey guys, up early this morning as my husband had to work and one of the boys needed to be dropped to sport. Managed this fine, he drove there, he is on his learners though and with everything happening I hadn't been doing much driving with him. I was amazed at how good he has become. Realising so many things that the family are adapting to doing without me hovering and that life can tick on just fine. Still worry about my husband doing too much though.

Food is not huge on the agenda at the moment, although one of the boys made a gorgeous risotto last night, it seems to be a Friday night favourite. Had chicken, bacon, leek and mushroom - all free range organic etc and home made stock. So tasty! wanted to save some for today but not a chance.

I'm going to have a quiet day today, catching up with some friends later on if I feel like it. Play it by ear. Hope the weekend is good for all of you.

      Hi Happs,
That risotto sounded yum! How great your boys know how to cook. When do you start them off on that? My boy is nearly 9...
I had Malaysian beef Rendang .. They do some pretty spesh food here in Penang!
Tomorrow is the end of Ramadan, the fasting month.... I find it very sad to see people breaking their fast with fried chicken and 2 ltr bottles of coke. Mmmm..yep.
So, you're the wise one Sista! Enjoy Sunday
      Xx

MHP - I hope the weekend is being kind to you also. I am glad to see you chipper again, your down did not seem to last long.
I was thinking of this in my shower - lots fo good thinking done there:H. I am sure it is hard to have a "normal" mother bitchy/naggy day when you are dealing with cancer and everything that goes along with it - it must also be hard for your family to be narky with you - but none of "that" stuff goes away when ill and receiving treatment does it. Must be a bit of a balance to manage.
And - can you send your sons over to teach my daughters - that sounds delicious!
          Have a great one - I hope:l

            Fasting pre and post chemo

Raring to go this morning everyone, couple of very ordinary days. I think lowering the dex to stop the shaking might have contributed to the general feeling of seasickness but I'm coming out of it now and feeling like DOING stuff. I did teach yesterday, started the class and only had one show - everyone shys off when they think you're not well - then a whole new group of new people turned up and it was show time....I think they enjoyed the class, hope they did just did my best and we'll have to see if they return.

Pat, my boys started cooking when they were around your sons age. Just things they liked, you know, cakes scones etc...then it turned into cooking a dinner every couple of weeks and now they all take a turn depending what's on the menu. Kind of a natural evolution.

And yes, SL, balancing my normal days is ummm....different. The drugs include steroids and they do make your mood swings dramatic. I'd also thought I'd done the menopause thing, so when they told us it was a side effect we just shrugged and said no worries. But I seem to be getting a lot of the side effects of that one too!

Good news though, the oncologist said I might not have a wait period between finishing chemo and starting radiotherapy which might mean finishing early December. That would be really cool.

I was just thinking of you.....you sound good!
Steroids are amazing medications, but the SE's are pretty horrible....
Wish I lived close enough to come to one of your classes - I am still being silly about attending my first - not good at being new to something.
What a Christmas gift that would be - I will wish that that timeline works out for you! When do you finish the chemo?
Are you keeping your henna up??
Take good, kind care of yourself....

                Fasting pre and post chemo

Finish chemo last week of October. So if I start radio the week after it will mean we can plan a break away in December. We've planned a week at the beach in early October and for that I'll have to come back to the city for treatment on one of the days. Just the way it goes.

And, I was just talking about the henna on the Undies thread! I just loved having it done. The crown lasted nearly three weeks but I think it would last longer if you weren't wearing a beanie, the rubbing takes the henna off the sides of your head. So the crown itself was pretty intact. Be interesting to see, I'll definitely be doing it again.

I think a "first" of anything is scary to a certain degree. Definitely choose a beginners class and speak to the teacher beforehand, let them know that you're new, I think it makes a big difference. And don't judge what you're doing based on what's around you. Everyone is so different, not just in fitness but in anatomy, there is no one size fits all and that's what yoga in its true form is about. Give it a go SL, I think you'll love it.

MHP! That is great news! Looking forward to a trip in December will hopefully make the rad therapy go by faster. I'm glad you are getting to the beach in October too. I love the ocean! I love looking forward to my next trip. We usually take one week every month and go some place. Boy, those first few AF free trips were a challenge but now I don't even give it a thought. I DON'T DRINK!!

                  Love you guys!!!

Totally agree on being near the ocean for a big dose of feel good. I just love it, whatever the season. And yep, I know you'll all laugh at the sort of temps we get here in winter, that's why tourists love us :H

Really good to hear your holidays away are no longer a struggle Ginge :l you're doing so well, really glad for you.

I've been goggling cumulative effects of chemo and not getting much joy. I think this round could be a combination of that and also I didn't adhere to the fast and plan now to develop that strategy for the 12 weeks that I keep harping on about. Re-reading 5:2 diet and planning, planning. I don't want to feel like this again or for as long. Still got my wobbly boots on today :H gotta get better!

                        Hey, Happy

You got me more interested in the science of fasting and I'm reading that book right now! I also watched this video by the author of the book: Eat, Fast & Live Longer HD - Video Dailymotion.

I'll be at the beach next week and am really looking forward to it.

Don't let The Google scare you too much - you're doing the best you can :l.

Gonna ban The Google NS I saw that video when it aired here and borrowed the book from a friend when I started treatment. Check the stuff under Cancer and the case history of Nora? that's what started me off looking.

Plan for the 12 weeks - dinner on Tuesday night then next meal Friday lunch - what do you think? even on the 5:2 you're allowed 500 calories a day on a fast day so I would supplement with bone broth or a vegetable soup with a chicken bone broth base. Its back to where I started coz I think that works.

You've all got me thinking a day trip to the coast is in order....

Happy - so sorry you are struggling. For what it is worth, you seem to be doing so very well - you are educating yourself and making informed decisions - we can't follow all the advice all the time - you are human...give yourself a break. The Google is wonderful, but can confuse everything as there is so much ...out there....taking a break would be good!
I don't know how to post a picture - but I found one that said "I'm no Dr, but maybe you need a little more......vitamin SEA" - can you get on your day trip - I say just do it! I would be loving to cheer you on when I reach the beach on Saturday - we can send ocean vibes to you??

MHP, You may be having a rough patch but from my perspective you are amazing. Even when you feel like crap you try to look on the bright side. That has to go a long way to helping your body heal from all this.

I say head to the beach/ocean/sea!!! JUST DO IT. I leave for Depot Bay, OR on Aug 17. I'f I look really hard, maybe I'll see you way over on your side of the planet!! Hmmm wish it was possible. You go, girl!
