Ok, Here goes Day 1 - Wish me luck! )
Good morning everyone.
Starting day 3 AF here. I feel better than I have in a long time. Coming to work rested and without a headache... what a concept!
Last night I followed my same basic routine, and just substituted water for beer. Then I took a mild sleep aid (Simply Sleep), and slept a full 8 hours. I feel fantastic. Hey - as of tomorrow I will be able to say that "I haven't had a drink since last month!" LOLWhen push comes to shove, you taste what you're made of.
You might bend till you break, 'cuz it's all you can take.
On your knees, you look up, decide you've had enough.
You get mad, you get strong, wipe your hands, shake it off...
Then You Stand.

You guys are all doing AWESOME!!! I really think it's good to see so much focus on the GOOD things about choosing not to drink for these days, rather than focus on whether you're wanting to drink or not. There are just so many positives - it's a lot more motivating in opinion anyway - to focus on the good stuff.
HOORAH for all of you!!!!

Go For It Pink Lady! Have a good evening - you know water's what keeps us alive and it helps me to think of what one clean glass of tap water would mean to a child in Africa! Water suddenly tastes like an honour - why on earth did I used to choose firewater?
Doggy Girl - Yes! Back to that glass of water again! It is great isn't it!
Pinkie - Yes! Isn't it good to know your kids are proud of your for a change!
Good Luck Almost Famous - yes, life out of the haze is clear!!!
Thanks all for being there for me today.

Prose, Looks like we're in this together! Go for it --- we both know deep down inside we can do it!! My car does that too by the way --- but no more! LOL
Me145, I ordered the starter kit on the website (the one with just the pills) because RJ's ingredients are highly recommended. I also take 1000mg of L-Glut from GNC. Good luck!
DoggieGirl & Pinkie, what insprirations you are. I look so forward to your posts.
Almostfamous, Thanks again. I will try to join you on the 30 Day Abs. Awesome --- double digits for you!
Beano - I'm strong if you are. Congrats!
To everyone else --- keep up the good work and excellent advice and pearls of wisdom!
Hey, how wonderful will it be when my daughter or son asks me if they can visit friends at night, and I can say that I will give them a ride home??? (I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had to say no to them just because I knew I could stay sober enough to pick them up at 10 pm.) I am looking forward to feeling guilty NO MORE about that.
Of course, there are countless more reasons to keep up with the AF Days...
Enjoy the day! (#2 for me)

He knew that dad wouldn't be sober enough to drive him over there and he needed mom to be home to take him. I felt so pathetic. They deserve a better dad than that.
Time for a gut check, Beano! When push comes to shove, you taste what you're made of.

Congratulations to everyone else too - many positive vibes from you all so great to see you all here and look forward to getting to know you all better! - Beano, I hear your statement about the driving - being there now for my girls is my biggest motivator - I can't believe the amount of precious time I wasted over the years - I'm trying to create new memories for them other than Mum 'asleep' in front of the TV ...

Good evening everyone!
I am on Day 2 AF, as you know, and I made it home for the second time without stopping at the liquor store. I am really thinking about putting the cash away that I would have spent to see how much I will have in a month. Has anyone else done that? I am thinking (hoping) that I will lose some weight and need some new clothes by then too. What a nice treat for myself!
Well, tonight I am planning to go out for a walk with the dog, post, listen to a CD and then fall asleep for a good night's rest. (Last night wasn't so easy to sleep so I am already tired.) I figure that before I know it, I will be on Day 3 AF!! Yipeeeeeeee!
I hope you all have an easy night. Good luck --- I'm thinking of you! :l

Having gone AF many many times in the past, I have some experience to share with you...
Depending on how much you drank and for how long, the withdrawal symptoms can be very mild (sleep disturbance, some shakiness/nervousness, concentration problems), but if you were a heavy drinking for many years straight they can be much worse and last much longer.
For me, as a heavy drinker of many years, the first three days AF are always the worst. I have to be in bed most of the time, sweating and shaking, unable to sleep but unable to even concentrate enough to read a book or newspaper, just laying there like a zombie. After day three, it starts ti get better, but I don't feel "normal" again until about day 5 or 6. Even after that, I have some concentration problems and nervousness/anxiety for a few more days, but I can function pretty normally.
The main thing you shoud be aware of is the danger of seizures, which can be very dangerous. They don't normally hit until 2-4 days after quitting, so often people think they are in the clear, feeling pretty good, when they are hit by a siezure. If you think you may be in the danger zone (a heavy drinker for many years) you should talk to your doctor about getting an anti-convulsive medication to take for about 5 days after you go AF. A standard one is carbamezin (Tegretol) which is a mild non-addictive medicine for epilepsy, which also has mildly sedative properties which help with other withdrawal symptoms as well. Lorazepan (Atavin) is also an anti-convulsive, and helps reduce withdrawal symptoms but it is highly addictive so should not be taken for more than a few days.
One more thing. Taking the supps religiously will also make the withdrawal process less uncomfortable.
And I find the CDs often put me to sleep when I'm have problems sleeping.
Good luck all!Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
