Hello everyone, I like this thread. I've had a hell of a time the past 3 months. I was AF in April for 21 days and thought I could moderate. That quickly turned into 12-15 beers a day. Today is day 1 again. I'm back on the program with vitamins, supps, cd's, etc. I really need your help and support. Thanks, Don

Newbies in Need - Day 2
Hi everyone,
Man, listening to everyone talk about beer is killing me. I can just picture an ice cold corona with a nice green lime in my hand sitting next to a pool, or a Sam Adams at the beach or a Newcastle in a field on a mountaintop....Ahhhhhhhhh.....if I had a patch soaked in beer on my shoulder right now I would rip it off and suck on it! I love beer and cigarettes. At least I still have coffee, the nectar of the gods. Well, I have gone 4 days without alcohol, and I will say that I feel like I have more control over my life than I've had in a long time. Not sleeping worth a shit though so my doc gave me a scrip for that. They don't want you to drink but they can sure write you the scripts. dingo"...You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." Bob Dylan

Newbies in Need - Day 2
Hi everyone, nice to see some new faces, I must be really naive because I didnt know what a corona was, thought it was a cigar!, must be because I only drink wine chard, or vodka, anyway I am on day 2 af but Im always on day 2 af, it has been a regular pattern for 4 years now to be 2days af 1day not. I need to break the cycle so I will keep plouging on. Dingo the idea of a alcohol patch is not to suck the alcohol from it!! I am still working on a patch that will stay on and drip feed us LOL. catch up later GG

Hi Chief,
This is what scares me about moderation. I know this happens when I quit smoking: everytime I start back I smoke more then I did before I quit...kinda' like I'm making up for lost time. I haven't smoked in 18 days and I know it better be for keeps.
If you can be AF for 21 days then you know what you need to do. Can you fiqure out what the trigger was... and prepare for it the next time? Remember how good you felt when you were AF, you must have felt great. One day at a time.................dingo"...You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." Bob Dylan

Newbies in Need - Day 2
Hi again everyone: I just got back from the supermarket. They had my favorite wine on special, but I was able resist. I've heard that each time we do something differently (e.g. not buy wine), a new habit is taking the place of an old one. It takes 21 repetitions for a habit to be broken. I'm hoping that the next time I go into that store, I won't be quite as tempted. Great to see you back Cindi. Good luck everyone, MaryWisdom, Courage, Strength

Hi Garden Girl,
Your Avartar is butt ugly but I absolutely love it. I have tried to figure out what the heck it is. If it's not a canine butt or a rutabager, I give up. The drip patch sounds good to me, 'specially a nicotine/alcohole combo that I could wear to work.

garden girl,
So you are part reptile...suppose that is why you like the garden so much.
Maybe they don't have rutabagas in England. It is a vegetable...in the potato family I think.
Are you cold blooded? Sorry I called you butt ugly.

I haven't tried the CDs but I have one by someone else. I ordere one of the perscription meds so I hope it doesn't get rejected by customs. It is being processed there. My health insurance ran out besides I don't want to ask a doc for meds. This is a personal problem for me and I don't need someone telling me I need to go to AA and making me feel like some sort of scum bag. Been there.........
Anywho, I'm feeling confident and plan to do some more reading of the book that I downloaded.
IAM............ working on me.

Newbies in Need - Day 2
Hello to all!! I was catching up and Iam, wanted to respond to your question about the brain fog. It was pretty bad for me for about 2 weeks. Not just typos here and there (heck, that's normal!). But somewhere between my brain and either my mouth or my fingers, stuff would get messed up. (I'm not on Topa or any prescription meds..) Things feel back to normal now, and have for quite a few days - probably a week or maybe a tad more. So just hang in there - this too shall pass.
Now if I can just get a stinkin' good night sleep! Somebody please send Mr. Sandman tonight! I don't want a dream man...just a plain old dream will do.
Wow - I told another 3D person today that I quit drinking. I bumped into an old acquaintance in the grocery store that I haven't seen in awhile. We used to party a lot together - a group of locals sort of thing. He was catching me up on folks I haven't seen in quite some time. He told me a story (well, a "next verse, same as the first" story!) about a friend of ours who regularly gets black out drunk. And then he drives. He's lucky he's alive, and hasn't killed others. Anyway, another verse same as the first apparently happened last weekend. I just blurted out that I quit drinking because I was really done with all that sort of madness. Felt pretty good. It gets easier the more people I tell. Also makes me feel more accountable which is a VEREE good thing.
Anywho, enough of my babbling!! I'm turning into a Sleep Learning CD with this babbling! (I LURVE my "Will")

Newbies in Need - Day 2
Hi everyone - hi to all the new faces that have joined us today!! I've started reading "The Effective Way to Stop Drinking" by Beauchamp Colclough - its about the 3rd time I've read it, really good. Chief, it was interesting he says that you can try to control or cut down but its not the amount we're drinking, its the wanting to drink thats the problem and if we introduce the substance into our body then that wanting will be kept alive and the craving will continue. He said its like throwing petrol on to a fire - alcohol ignites the need for more alcohol and so the fire is never put out. Naievely I thought I could moderate too after a good spell Af, this time I know what I've got to do. JanicexxAF since 9 May 2012

Newbies in Need - Day 2
Hello Janice et al
Mind if I 'jump in'? This is a great thread and a good start to the month. People at various stages in the early journey that can really support each other.
Janice - I know that you recently had the trauma of loosing you father and how devastating that is (I lost mine in April). Well done for getting yourself together to get on with this - he would have wanted you to.
I started the MWO programme without topa 3 weeks ago and was amazed at how easy it was to moderate. Started topa (25mgs) last Friday and am now day 4 AF.
Th one thing that I am not getting round to doing is the exercise. Though, I did try going for a power walk around the local lake last Sunday - sadly, I had Thai dog in tow (male) DG will understand!!!
Hope you all have/had a great evening. Here's to tomorrow.
