Newbies in Need - Day 4

Good morning to everyone (well, it is morning here). Sorry I don't have time to say hi to each of you individually. Now that we are back from vacation there is a mad scramble to get ready to go back to work on Wed. Boy the summer flew by! My goal for the month is many more Af days and 2 max if I have any. Garden Girl, you said the other day you were going to the store to get the kudzu and L-glutamine. Were you able to do so? They really do help you drink less when you do drink. I think the kudzu from this site is higher quality but any is better than none. I guess I'm also not understanding why you can't take the job if you don't stop. The job might help as you would have to think about how you would feel going to work the next day. If you punish yourself by not taking the job, might it not make it even harder? I think the 3rd day might have something to do with alcohol withdrawal and when there is no more in your system the craving starts. Your husband's comment that this started when your dad died may be something to think about as well. I have a friend addicted to pepsi because of the caffine. Caffine withdrawal can cause headaches. I hope everyone has a great weekend. We are being social butterflies with plans tonight and tomorrow night with friends. At least one member of each couple does not drink or drinks very little so that should help me.

Newbies in Need - Day 4

      Hello All,
GG, I know Exactly how you feel. I'm in the same boat, I just can't seem to get a handle on it. It's like the beast just takes over my thinking and makes me buy the beer and I drink the first 2-3 in an hour. I too can feel the effect after the first 2-3 gulps. Then after 2-3 beers I slow down a little but at the end of the day I've had 12-15. It's insane. We're all in the same boat here, keep trying and so will I. We have to. Don

Newbies in Need - Day 4

        A harty Hello to all,
Thankyou again Janice for starting the Day,and such a gorgeous one at that here in the UK.
Its good to hear how you are all doing.Well done to you all even if it means just being here. Some times when we are weak it would be so easy to withdraw back to the pit and shut out the world.I know i've done it enough times.I truley believe this journey eventually brings you to a place that you know is home, dispite the corners.I know in my own experience i eventually accepted the fact that if i drink just one drink then i will end up in a very bad place, but like some have said here i can only say i wont take a drink today and engoy that day for what it is Tomorrow? well thats another day.It s not easy though and thats why we are all here, hands outstretched.A great place xxx

Newbies in Need - Day 4

Hi everyone thanks to you all for the support youve shown today, got very down this afternoon and the anxiety started so went out bought a bottle of chardonney, poured a glass out, came on here took two sips of wine and.......... threw the rest of glass down the sink and then emptied the bottle down as well, what an absolute waste of money. Anyway still counting today as alcohol free. will catch you all later xxxx

Garden Girl, actually that pattern seems about right for me when I'm not abstaining. I always considered myself in control because there were days when I didn't drink, didn't really want to. But my pattern is... once I do start, don't stop until I pass out or run out. Granted that's not all the time but enough of the time that I should have recognized much sooner the lack of control. For those that stopped without major events to point out the issue, Kudos to you! It should really help you on your journey to know that you did it because you wanted to. Also if you're wondering why you would do something "wrong" when you're having a good day... it's simple, at those moments we feel empowered and in control and forget that we hand it over when we start down that path. Not so strange really. GG Congrats on making the decision to stop yourself today!!!!

Made a greets on one of the older threads this AM, Louise was kind enough to point me in the right direction for the daily threads! :thanks:

Augusten Burroughs wrote a book about drinking? or not drinking? I love him!!! I'll have to find that book.

                  Thanks!

Hi Roxanne, yeh bbq was good, not easy but I could have felt worse especially as I'd been gardening all afternoon - and THATS when I just love a glass, coming in from the garden! I made do with a diet coke and hubby had white wine (my pet lip is out!). And I realised at teatime that I forgot to take my lunchtime vits, my kudzo and L-Glut so that's not too bad. (I'm boasting now!!) I hope you've had a good day - how's the mods going??

I just want to say a big thank you to everyone for this thread - there are going to be days when one/some of us are feeling down and are struggling with this whole thing, have slipped, and need that bit of extra support and encouragement. Thats what we're here for, for each other - there will be difficult days ahead but its important we know we can come straight on here and someone will be there to listen, understand and help. Communication is the best form of therapy - to tell someone how you feel - and this is something not all of us can do at home, with family or close friends. But, coming on here is different, everyone understands what you're talking about, how you're feeling. So, please keep posting no matter how you are feeling.

Tomorrow I am swimming early then maybe out so if I haven't managed to start the thread off please can someone else do it???

Wishing everyone a lovely day tomorrow and well done today!

Newbies in Need - Day 4

swimming on a sunday? doesnt your pool ever close?

mods out the window tonight. excuses ... premenstrual plus some bad news on my part. one or the other i could cope, but both together, well.
not drunk though, how odd is that?

you are right when you say that to post how you feel helps, and there are people to help to support and encourage.

i wont be starting the thread tomorrow as i have booked myself a morning off from the pony as i *embarrassed* knew i would drink more tonight.

                          see you all tomorrow.

This book by Burrough's is called "Dry" and is about his stint in alcohol and drug rehab. Interesting read.

He is now hooked on spicy ginger ale called Bleinheim's. I've given it a try - the diet version. It's pretty good!
