Things to do instead of drinking

I know we all deal with that boredom factor in the beginning. We're so programmed to go home with a bottle of whatever. Here's my idea-I'm going to take the money I would've spent on wine and put it aside. In a month I'll have at least $100.00 that could be much better spent (on myself or a charity or whatever). Anyone else with some ideas? I'm sure there's many out there. Thanks guys.

I think you should put that money you've saved into a money exchange and write a check out and post it to me!

I could save it up and then come over and visit!

Audrey, I put away what I don't spend then treat myself to a massage every so often.

The time that I used to spend drinking now goes here ......... In fact the time I used to spend cooking, cleaning, eating, washing, ironing ....

My name is Betty Boop and I'm an MWO-aholic....

            Welcome Audrey .....

I spent so much on the supplements, cd's etc last year and then did not really use them. Am back on track now, using them and for each bottle of wine I dont drink I put it against what I paid so gradually my debt is being paid off and once it is I intend to start treating myself to massages, facials etc.

Audrey: I used to think that getting sober meant being incredibly bored, but it didn't turn out that way at all. Yes, I have much more mad money to spend on:
                      -lunches out w/hubby & g-kids.
                      -special ingredients for great dinners.
                      -shopping at the mall.
                      Since I've gone AF, I've:
-walked my dog much more often.
                      -played throw & fetch w/him.
                      -met w/friends much more often.
Life is so much better now. It's indescribable. Mary

I would agree wholeheartedly with Mary - since I stopped wasting my life sitting around drinking I find I have SOOOOO many things to do that I am seriously thinking of starting drinking again just to get a rest!

                        (KIDDING!)

I honestly find it difficult to fit everything in to my days now - I think a major part of the reason (for me anyway) was that if I was drinking every night, it meant I couldn't drive anywhere.
Since I quit - I can drive to the gym, to the beach to walk, to the climbing gym with my kids, to the sea cliffs near my home to climb in the evening, to the wooded tracks to go running, to the forest to go mountain biking etc etc etc
I have also read more books in the last few months than I have in a long time.

Yep finding things to do is NOT a problem for me!

I'm just sorry I wasted so many years sitting in a haze, achieving very little - and believing all the time that I was having "fun"
