Terrified of AA need help please!!
I've paid $14,786.22 to my therapist just to get the AA chatter out of my head. I was going to get a frontal lobotomy, but this was a bit cheaper. I still throw up in my own mouth when I hear one of their cute little slogans.. just my experience.

ROFLMAO, ya'll are a TRIP!! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time, thank you!! I hate to say it but I did go to a meeting this afternoon, had to, it was either that or drink and I couldn't do that. I just sat and listened and I don't know if it was because of the time of day or the people, but it was actually funny and light hearted and I didn't feel like I was in a looney bin. I may go back to THAT certain meeting as the people were VERY different from the others. All I know is it helped me from drinking today and so did getting on here and seeing everyone's kind responses!! Thank ya'll sooo much, you are making a huge difference in this one persons life!!! :-)Sobriety is like my avatar. It was always right there in front of me but I couldn't see it!

Cuddles, that's great.. realy. If it made you not drink, I am really pleased! AA has helped a lot of people, my father included. It just wasn't for me. If you can find a meeting that fits, that is a good thing...
Glad you are with us!! Stick around!!

Hi Cuddles,
Glad you enjoyed the AA meeting and found it light hearted.
Just doesn`t appeal to me personally, but still have great respect for AA, well, have respect for any approach that can help any of us, really.
Much love,

All you guys at work, want another laugh out loud? Go look at DrenchedinWine's latest on General Discussion. I can barely write I'm laughing so hard. (24 beers in a case, 24 hours in a day? Coincidence? I don't think so!)
(I think I'm about to be fired, but I wanted to quit anyway, so I'll keep on laughing).Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

AA a cult?
Hi,
there are a lot of good people in AA as well as some scary ones. You do not have to talk at the meetings you know, you can just sit at the back and listen.
However although I am gratfull for them getting me sober a few years ago after many years of hard drinking, it only lasted 6 months as I got more and more depressed at the meetings and I am sure it is often like a cult. Probably each group is different. I too started drinking on the way home from meetings. I also started to believe all drinkers had mental problems and depressing enough that included the ones who claimed 20 years or more sobriety ; so I left and had 2 years of psychotherapy. That did not enable me to stay sober but I guess I am now happier and more stable and willing to try again at defeating drink, but No I will not be going back to AA anytime soon.:new:
all the best,
Donachu

That's a very interesting perspective. I understand that AA is good for many people, and in fact "saves" many also, but my own research shows that it is not a very reliable solution and there are not any statistics to show that it "works".
All recent research reveals that people who take charge themselves and decide how they will go about conquering their problem are the most successful long-term. Why do you think it's called My Way Out? We are gathered here (please look upwards now, with a look of rapture on your face) to take charge ourselves... of course, with the help of all the others struggling in the same way.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
