    AF Anyone??

Amelia and Prose, just had to let youl know that I bought a painting from a local artist tonight after I left the lawyers. While I was meeting with my lawyer he mentioned that across the street the local art league was hosting an art show "Meet the Artist". The show was to highlight local talent. I stopped on my way home and found a picture to replace one my ex took when he moved out. So even going to the lawyers turned out to have a positive side.

      AF Anyone??

Good morning all. I'm headed out to work so I wanted to wish everyone a good day. I have plans this weekend with my nieces for Saturday and friends on Sunday. I'm going to try AF on Monday. This weekend will also be spent finishing the book and listening to CDS and starting supplements in preparation of going AF. Hope the topamax arrives but will go AF with or without it. Have a good day and enjoy your weekend.

        AF Anyone??

        Hi cuckoo,
good for you! I was reading an article in I think it was in O magazine at the Dr's office about this woman who was getting her house ready to sell, she did a one-day kind of "makeover", which consisted of doing stuff she had been putting off, like hanging art and buying flowers and generally decluttering etc, when she was finished she didn't want to sell because everything looked so pretty. The whole idea of the article was how we make our living space beautiful for other people-ie company or prospective buyers, but generally dont take the time to do it just for ourselves...
I think it is so important to have things around us that we love, to look at and to use,
we have recently painted our living room and I have been putting off hanging things back up because some of it I don't love, and I have decided that it has to go, so that is leaving some holes, but that is not an excuse to not hang the stuff I do love,
kind of rambling here i guess but just wanted to say I'm glad you found something beautiful for your house,
how was the trip to the gym? take care, P

            AF Anyone??

Hey you guys, am liking the topic of the thread at the moment - Arty things....sort of anyway.
Cuckoo. How amazing to have bought a piece of art. I must admit, even as a painter, I don't think I have ever bought a piece myself (which is probably quite slack really!!). How wonderful. How big is it, what subject matter and what medium was used??? Paint, chalk, pencil???? Glad to see that you are nearly finished reading the book. It is unbelievably inspirational.
Prose, I am so jealous that you do pottery!! I love making things,...anything really, but hardly allow myself the time. What kind of things do you make? Yep, I have seen the movie 'ghost' and it actually looks bloody difficult to use one of those wheels. Putting the right kind of pressure in the right place. Do you make pottery or figures or something else??
            Wakeupmom, Cindi, Finski and xEmx
, thinking of you all and hope you are doing well.
            xx

              AF Anyone??

Hi Amelia, the medium is paint and it is a landscape (a hill and trees) and it is done in an impressionist style. It is 17" long and 21" wide. I really like it and feel I helped support the local arts. This post will be extremely short because we are currently having a lovely, gentle rain and I want to go out in the sunroom and enjoy the sound of if. It is a really autumnal day here with the rain, the leaves in full fall colors, the damp ground, and it has been so long since we had rain here that I plan on thoroughly enjoying it. I plan on posting a lot more in the near future because I need the company right now. I have friends and family but none of them are aware of what I'm going through right now (meaning trying to go AF) Most know about the break-up.

Prose, always look forward to hearing from you.
Wakeupmom hope things are going well for you and look forward to posts.
Cindi, I can't tell you how proud I am with all your stars. I so hope this will be me soon. I bet you feel great.

Finski and xEMx, hope you both are well and look forward to having you join this thread.

              I'll write more later.

I said the post would be extremely short. Fat chance. My friends always tease me that my epitaph should read: She knew how to make a short story long.

                  AF Anyone??

                  Hi guys,
just wrote fairly long reply then pushed a wrong button and poof it was gone,
anyway I found a book that I think you all might like, it is called Sober for Good by Ann Fletcher, I am about 1/4 of the way in and it is really good, my pottery is functional stuff Amelia, bowls, mugs pitchers etc.
the wheel is hard at first, it is the centering part that is difficult, then once you think you have it all figured out, the clay wins again, but i do love it and am trying to spend a lot more time doing it,
It was interesting to me Amelia that you said you rush when you paint, that is what i have been trying to focus on-having a better plan before I get started, sometimes I don't even know what I am going to make when I start! So i have started a notebook with drawings and ideas in in and am trying to be more methodical.
cuckoo, glad to hear you are going to sit and listen to the rain, another book I am reading right now is the power of now, I don't know if you have ever read it but it talks about each moment being important, not looking back or forward but just "being" in the moment. sounds like that is what you are going to do!
I hope you do post a lot here and that it helps, I have only told one person what I am doing and how i am feeling, the idea of going to any kind of group doesn't appeal to me but this site does,
Wakeupmom, Cindi,Finski and xEMx, let us know how you are doing!
                  will check in later, P

Hey Prose and Cuckoo, thanks for your replies. I kind off skimmed through them as I am off to bed. However, quickly I would like to say that Prose, the book you mentioned sounded very interesting. Perhaps a read that could be quite beneficial to me I think!!. Thank you.
Cuckoo, wow, I am really jealous of your purchase. It sounds fantastic, and actually, just reading about your response to the painting, it sounds like you have purchased wisely. As Prose posted about an article she read, I also think it is such an amazingly powerful thing to redecorate and reclaim a space once a 'significant other' has left. It leaves us feeling empowered, in touch and in control. So many feelings we lose track of whilst in relationships that aren't workimg.....

                      AF Anyone??

Amelia, I hope you have a good night's sleep. I see that you are in the UK. Next weekend I am attending a conference in Vermont hosted by a organization called Sacred Britain. The conference is on crop circles, sacred sites, and spiritual wisdom. It is something I normally would do but since my break up I said I would be open to new and different things. Anyway why I bring it up, is that some of the speakers are from the UK. I believe 2 are from Cornwall. I hope you have great success over the next 2 months with your paintings. I'll talk more later.

                        AF Anyone??

Prose, I think I would like both books and will look into purchasing them. I also have one I started to read but put down to read the MWO book. It is called "Think On These Things" and the premise of the book is to thing on the good things in life rather than the bad. I like to think of myself as fairly well informed on the state of the world and also fairly political astute. I subscribe to 2 newspapers and also read news magazines. On Wednesday I decided I would no longer do this because I find it too depressing. All the news is about what bad happens in the world and not the good and I want to focus on the good. Anyway while listening to the rain I did read all the newspapers from Wednesday to today (my addictive personality no being able to let them go) but I did a very cursory reading. Sorry I'm rambling but I really think focusing on the good things, being in the moment, not thinking about the past or the future really are healthy alternatives to the constant worrying about past mistakes and the incessant fretting about future problems. I'm going to pop something in the microwave for dinner but will be on afterwards.

Welcome, Jasmine. This is a great thread. As far as being on day 1, isn't there a quote that goes along the line of "a thousand mile journey begins with one step" and you've taken that step. Good for you. I tried to go AF in October at the start of this thread but I didn't make it but will keep trying. Another poster on this thread tried to go AF in October and I believe she is very close to being successful. So the people on this thread have their successes and failures but we support each other in our effort. Hang around, I think you will like this thread.

                                Welcome Jasmine!
yes, every journey starts with a small step, one day at a time as they say, glad you found this site and this thread, it has been great for me!
I agree with you cuckoosnest, there is so much going on in the world that is depressing,
sometimes you have to just take a step back,
The Power of now book is hard for me to get into, have to take it a little bit at a time, because there is a a lot to think about, the other one is SO good, she is describing things that I have felt but never been able to verbalize,
hey- that conference sounds really cool, do you ever listen to coast to coast radio? It deals with paranormal things etc, kind of fun to listen to every now and then,
off to make some mugs ( i think) have to clean up my mess first,
                                P
