Wow, your sons wife does sound like more than a handful....is she taking medication (lithium)?? The situation you described sounded really scary and no doubt your son probably does feel desperate and sad. I feel so sorry for your grandkids. I am glad you didn't let your daughter in law's crazy stuff make you crazy (I feel sorry for her too).

I am glad you have made that decision to quit the booze. I am going to have some Champagne today, so I won't make my 30 days......Looks like it will be a New Year thing.

AF Anyone??

Hi everyone,

Today is my first attempt at being AF! I was up at 5am in anticipation. I fell asleep (read: passed out) last night without brushing my teeth and have the most disgusting "gin and tonic" taste in mouth. I'm happy to think that I won't have to experience that again. However, I got on the scale and I have gained more then I expected. Oh well... all the more reason to get started on my "sobriety diet" as I call it. Heard a song this morning - "This is my Now"... perfect coincidence. It is now on my ipod and will be my inspiration for the next several weeks.

Wish me luck - this will be my first day AF in a loooooonnngggg time.

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a good Christmas.

Maggie, I agree with Amelia that your son's wife needs help. He really should consult a lawyer about what to do in case she won't get help for herself. If he decides he wants a divorce, her behavior should be documented. From the sounds of it, it would be awful if she were to get custody.

Amelia, hope you enjoyed your champagne but also hope you didn't go overboard. Are you going AF the rest of the year? I haven't been AF but I start again today.

Cindi, glad your holiday was so pleasant. I read your post about your son's gift on another thread. That's a cute story. You sound very proud of your son.

Debbie, best wishes on your day 1 AF. Stay strong. I plan on 2008 being totally AF for me and my new year's resolution is I will do whatever is necessary to get and stay AF. I've looked into other websites that promote (insist) on abstinence. I think some of them might be beneficial in an initial attempt to become AF.

I did it! First night sober in a LONG time. It was very easy and I'm sure it will get more difficult but right now I'm proud that I did it! I day at a time... right? I'm going 30 days AF and then hoping for moderation. We'll see.

Hi All,

Checking in at 6 days so in the last 16 have had 8 hours with alcohol. Just come back from doctors and not surprisingly depression confirmed but it is bordering on severe but within moderate zone. I feel better about that and it has lifted the fear of hospitalisation.

Xmas day was with my brother who fully understands depression so he is good for me - and we both know our limits on time together because there is much family stuff never discussed - but it is better than no brother at all.

Boxing day my boyfriend did a few jobs in my flat for me - I read a book!! Like a princess. He too is supportive of me not drinking.

I hope that yu are all well and had very nice days. Will be in touch again tomorrow - today I was toooooooo slobby - reading and snacking - which is not good for the depression and spirals me down to drinking thoughts - so more action tomorrow and less isolation.

Way to go Dcline!!! I am so happy that you made your first night AF!! It was so nice to read both your posts - you sound really excited. It is exciting too - and for such a simple thing - being AF........... Just feeling free from the booze blues is enough to excite me.... Feels fantastic waking up the next day doesn't it?? What a great way to start the new year.

Fjones, congrats on your 6/7days. Those are the tough ones....1 to 5 are a nightmare for me sleepwise.
I am so happy that your boyfriend is really supportive of your AFness. It is an unbelievable help to have your nearest and dearest on board. It makes life so much easier when those close to us are playing on our team, so to speak. I'm sorry to hear that your doctor has diagnosed you with depression. Has he/she prescribed any sort of medication for you?? It can be very helpful to alleviate some of the symptoms...

Cuckoo, I think I am going to have to join you on being AF for 2008.
I did have champagne for Christmas day and have pretty much continued on with the drinking. I thought I would feel differently (not so inclined to drink), but I haven't stopped thinking about it......or doing it.
I have been AF for different amounts of time over the last year, but it seems that after a period of ABs I go straight back in at the level I was drinking before (never less).
Life is so much easier when the drinking option just isn't around.....
So I am with you Cuckoo.
