What I love about not drinking!!

Oh yes, the drinking out of coffee cups. I did that one religiously. When I look back it seems stupid. Sure people in passing wouldn't know the difference but those who are up close - don't you think they could smell it?? God, the things we do eh?

And .... the watering down of vodka. I did that all of the time seeing I was too drunk to go and buy more to replace it. I was busted when hubby went to pour himself a drink one night last year. He wasn't mad that I drank it and filled it with water. He was mad there wasn't any left for him and he really wanted a drink.

Mary, I think I could of been your twin in many ways LOL! Thank goodness those days are over!!!!

and the driving to several different liquor stores - putting them on rotation so no clerk would sense I had a problem. Ugh!

What to do w/the darn empties!?! Wrap them carefully & stow them in w/the regular garbage & hope hubby didn't hear them clanking together when he took it to the dump. Gosh, the subterfuge was awful.

What I love about not drinking!!

This thread is putting a smile on my face! We live in a town where there is seperate garbage and recycling pick up. The recycling mixed in open bins, perfect for all the neighbors to walk by and see just what a lush you are and to make matters worse, our church secretary lives accross the street. So since the recycling is mixed, you can imagine that there are all sorts of creative places to hide bottles and cans. When all three bins got to their limit, and no it wasnt all bottles and cans, I would come up with other creative solutions like hiding in the regular garbage or bagging seperatly and hiding in my truck to drop off at the super market bin. The worst was when I was alone with our 2 year old twins, when I would have to change a diaper I would wrap a beer can in the dirty and then throw it away. I am proud to say that garbage day is Sunday and there will only be one recycling bin this week!

LOL about the dirty diaper! Never did that one, but if I had of even thought it was a way to hide an empty I probably would of!!! (being a mom of a 2 year old myself)

I love your avatar BTW! I have always loved gators! The cartoon version that is!

What I love about not drinking!!

                Everyone!

I think this may be my very favorite post yet! Reading it is like unzipping a pair of supertight jeans and brrrreeeeaathing at long last. Brings tears to my eyes to think how we've all suffered separately, thinking we were the only ones on earth doing all that creeping, sneaking, stashing, replenishing, hiding.

I may have a new one for you though: FEMININE HYGEINE PRODUCTS. My husband is one of those men who would not go into a store and buy me a box of tampons or bag of pads if I were hemmorrhaging (sp?) to death---he's VERY squeamish about girl stuff. So hey folks---guess where MY perfect hiding place has always been? Yup---my under-sink cabinet behind all "those products." Worked every time. I also hid his Christmas presents in there, along with my booze.

A few weeks ago I went to that cabinet (for a maxi-pad, not a SIP and found a full glass of wine back in there that had been there God-knows-how-long---it had a skin of blue-green mold all over it. Grrrrrossss.

And the lidded styrofoam cups with straws! Oh, how often did my children say, when we were riding along on errands, "Can I have a sip of your Coke?" "No," I'd say quickly, "Mommy's got a cold and I don't want you to drink after me!" They must have thought I was the Guinness World Record holder in length of "colds"...

-I love that I don't have to over-compensate w/my hubby, because I feel so guilty about drinking.
-I love that I can be myself wo/the effects of alcohol.

What I love about not drinking!!

Sundays! My first one in about 4 years that I am going to be going out the house and not being a mess on the sofa too ill to move. Its a great feeling.

As for hiding - I used to always drink out of a coke can so that I could pour the coke away and fill most of it with vodka, also trying to drink a beer when my girlfirend went for a shower - I learnt to drink pretty quickly sometimes.

Its good not to do this.....

What I love about not drinking!!

Yes, I too drank very quickly when nobody was looking.

I like that I'm not drunk when guests come to my house, because I've been drinking for hours ahead of time (so that I could have my fill).

What I love about not drinking!!

I like how much more I can get done in a day! Today I have swam, taken garden rubbish to the tip, had a 2 hour walk and gardened, before making Sunday Dinner. When I'm drinking, I'm lucky if I manage just one of those things.

I used to try to hide empties in the garbage. Once I put too many beer bottles in the garbage and the garbage men left the bag on the curb. Of course it was open for everyone to see including my hubby. I was horrified.

oh Marcie, that is so funny.I once left an empty wine bottel hidden in my wardrobe and my daughter discovered it, another time my son caught me sneaking a drink in the garage - straight from the bottle!

What I love about not drinking!!

This is such a funny thread

I nearly cracked up at the dirty diaper one, OMG that is mad funny though :H and so inventive.

                                I like:
                                1. like Mary, not overcompensating with husband because I'm feeling guilty. He always sussed me, and I knew this, and then became defensive,
which led to us bickering over nothing. :bang
                                2. going to buy groceries in the local shop and not buying any alcohol with the mushrooms and air fresheners. :wd:
                                3. not trying furiously to remember the next morning if I sent anyone an inappropriate or text message or email, and not worrying at work that anyone can smell the 3 or 4 vodkas from the weeknight before seeping out through my pores, and wondering what they think of me or if they talk about it behind my back.

Happy Sunday evening to everyone here and thanks for this thread of reminders xxx
