Newbies - Please know you are Welcome!!

    BeachMusic,

Please don't worry about p*ssing us off. Always feel welcome and never fear putting down in words what you feel you need to say.

We seldom get into the p*ssing thing. Usually, you will only find people who want to help you deal with whatever it is you are facing.

    Glad you are here!!

        Thanks Cindi -- great post!

I personally want to welcome all of those who are new as well. There will be times when things can get a little 'hot' or 'sour' around here but we are a huge group with different thoughts, opinions and beliefs. If we weren't different, life would be pretty drab.

I also cannot encourage you enough to reach out, and keep on reaching out. You will be heard. If you feel you are not being heard, please say something. Also, don't be shy about PM'ing someone. Do whatever it takes to get the help you need.

        :welcome:

Welcome from me too...:welcome: I'd hate to think I'd ignored or upset anyone... I know one can never really know how one is received but I do try to remember how it was.... I do remember feeling very overwhelmed at the whole 'posting thing', especially with the wobbles of early AF days, and just how it felt like I was the new kid on the block.... but everyone was so friendly to me...I soon found my feet...(oh! just realised!):H

So to anyone feeling left out, scared, new and lost...welcome. This is a great place and Cindi, thanks for this thread.... (see, aren't folk lovely here?!?)

          Love and courage to all.:h

                Jaywag,

                You are more than welcome.

I read your posts and realize you are worried about losing family and career.

You are in a tough place right now.

                You can turn this around!!

Have you read the book? It is not very expensive, less than $15 last time I looked. You can download it.

Please understand there is no silver bullet but there are ways to deal with the drinking and the cravings.

We will all help you and never worry about asking questions. You'll probably get more answers than you want.

i'm on my tenth day without drinking and my motivation is waning. I'm starting to think thoughts like " one or two drinks won't hurt", but I know that that would be a mistake!
                  need some support!
                  thanks

jaywag- I was on day 3 yesterday and then drank last night - alot. I have felt like s%$# all day. And I'm so miserable that I gave in. I SOOOooooooo wish I hadn't. It was not fun, it didn't help anything and just made me feel ten times worse. I feel so much better when I don't drink, but I know how intense those obsessive cravings can be. I hope you hang in there. and that I do too. What IS THAT craziness - thinking "this time will be different"? I dunno, but I guess that's why we're all here. Big hugs-

                      Jaywag,

We all get those. Damn booze beast!!!

Every single time I have caved and given in to those thoughts, I ended up on a major binge. You know "one is too many 10 not enough." Geez, I've used that phrase twice today but is is God's Truth!!

Remember Jay, the addicted part of your brain is fighting the smart part of your brain. Push it back. You are through the worst and on your way to a lot of health and happiness.

Join us on the Newbies ODAT (one day at a time) thread, but also recognize you might want to jump on one of the 30 day challenges. It is truly an ODAT issue but sometimes those longer term goals can help you keep your eyes on the horizon.

If 30 days seems too daunting, start your own thread of say 7 days or two weeks. See what I mean?

DO NOT GIVE IN TO THE WHISPERS!! That is the old addicted Jay trying to beat back the new Jay. The new Jay is way to smart for that!!

:goodjob: on the 11 days, btw, it took me months to get there!! You are awesome!!

Newbies - Please know you are Welcome!!

Thank you Cindi for this thread. I hadn't read the posts you're referring to, but I too want to welcome any & all newbies. Without you, MWO wouldn't exist. I tried & tried to get a handle on my drinking to no avail. In April, I found MWO (I'm not sure how it happened...serendipity, I guess). I haven't been perfect, but I've had more success here than I ever have. I come here every single day. Every person who posts & reads here is looking for some relief for his/her alcohol problem. That's our common thread. However, we're going about it in our individual ways. My goal is an AF life. Some folks are looking for moderation.

Please keep coming back here. It doesn't matter if you slip. You can always come here afterwards, talk about it, & move on. That's what I've done.

                        Mary

                              Jay,

If you get really desperate, post and ask someone to chat with you and jump into the chat room.

Some people are uncomfortable with that but it has helped me through some really tough times!! (gotta love these guys, someone will always show up, even if it takes a few minutes)

The chats get a little crazy sometimes but they are always fun and then before you know it, you are past your crisis and having a good time.

Quick question......the MWO Subscriber Forum....I have not signed up but am wondering if it is worth it? I guess I cannot PM anyone unless I join this, right? Still figuring it out. I started filling out the form and thought I would just ask you all first.
