East, love the new avatar. I'm still working on one AND a new name. If anyone in my family finds this site, they will immediately know who I am!

Think I have attention deficit disorder cleaning syndrome. Spend 10 minute in the kitchen, 5 minutes in the bathroom. Get on the computer for 15 minutes. go back to the living room. etc.

I know that when my sister and her family came down and saw the condition of my small space, they were horrified. I, did not however, inherit the clean gene from my mother. My sister did. Big deal.

I've been very angry at her, since her "intervention" and what she told the dr. However, I had a very interesting conversation with her this morning, which gave me an insight to her reaction to me.

She told me that she has no tolerance for alcohol, hates the taste and hates to see anyone have a drink (hubby excluded). At xmas eve, went to a relative's house, realized that they were drinking and asked to be driven home.

Everyone has their own standard. Some people have standards for themselves and different ones for others. Friends told me that they were disappointed in me for drinking, but proceeded to tell me how drunk everyone was over the holidays, even their underage kids. How fun it was.

Now that I'm dealing better with the stress, now that it's a new year, now that I'm af at the moment, I can see things clearer.

That's why this site is so important. No one judges. Everyone has been there. Everyone is pulling for each other in so many ways, praying for family members, etc.

I was insulted when the dr laughed at my telling him about finding this site on the internet. He wanted me to try AA. Said no. Went to a support group when my brother was drinking, to try to help him, try to help my mother cope. HATED IT.

Besides, since most of my family and friends are not supportive in the way that I need it, this place is perfect for me. People are available 24/7, so supportive.

So thank you all for bringing my feet back to earth, making me feel better about myself and giving me hope. I don't know if I will remain af for a month, a year or for the rest of my life, but I know that I have become a better person because of all of you.

It's my life to live. Not anyone else's.

Happy New Year Firecrackers. Back from my trip to my sister's. Although she drank like a fish, I am happy that I did not give into temptation. Today is day 8 AF.
Suki, I wish I was there with you so I could give your sister a swift kick in the ass. What a B****. I think we all have one of those. Hang in there and it will soon be over. Hold your head up high and don't let anyone knock you down; you deserve better than that.

Took the dog for a walk but felt like i was sleep walking. God i do feel like sh*t today and inside i'm shaking need to take some paracetmol to wake me up. What is it about the day after new year! just always feels so depressing. Cant wait to put that xmas tree down now!
Next door neigbour invited us around again for a drink, but this time did not touch the whisky instant i was drinking croft(sherry). Got home drunk the rest of my wine but would you believe there is a little bit left, well pouring that down the sink right now. i will not be drinking today!
Got 2 go of to work and when i get back i shall go to bed for a while.

Hi everyone

Its good to be back. Things are not quite back to normal until next week when the girls go back to school but at least I can now get near the computer each morning.

Sweetpea, I did ok over xmas. Did have wine on xmas day but left half an Irish coffee later, did not even feel like it. It was the first sober xmas day in years and it felt good. Getting loads of AF time under my belt defnitely helped but I know from experience that it would be so so easy to slip back into old habits. We had people for dinner yesterday and it was so tempting to have wine but I thought of the drink tracker and knew I wanted to put in a 0 for the first day of the year so it wasnt worth it. I poured a large glass of AF wine and left it at my place and then filled everyone elses glass from the bottle when we sat down. I dont think anyone even noticed. I am hoping to get 30 days in January but taking it ODAT.

Here's to a great 2008, onwards and upwards.

rustop good idea I will try that next time I have folks round for dinner. Trouble is when everyone knows you drink it makes more of a statement and gets people asking when you only have water

Just got back from vacation--- late last night or maybe early this morning -- too tired to look at my watch. No surprise that we had flight delays due to winter storms. The snowfall was HUGE this year -- the ski gods were happy and so was I :-) Unfortunately, I have to go to work this morning so will try to catch up with the thread tonight. I had no luck connecting to the Internet over the last couple of weeks and I really missed you guys. Hope all is well.
