Eastender: thanks i'm ok. last night i felt like i had a wet suit on. Husband invite our neightbour and a few friends this saturday for some drinks and food, the thing is i dont think i have the willpower to say no. To early days for me. Anyway just better of thinking about today first. Talk about jump the gun!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved your post Flutterby. Glad you are feeling a little better Sweetpea. I too thought I had this thing kicked last year when I did a few 30 Day stints. The thing I am finding is that the more AF time I get under my belt the easier it gets. You break the vicious circle and become more in control. The first time I did 30 Days it was so, so hard. This time I am more optimistic, I did it before and I KNOW I can do it again. So there AL up yours.

Good morning Firecrackers. Another cold, cold day, but will be in the high 50's by monday. Yeh.

Thank you all for you for your support. Yesterday was the hardest Day 1 AF that I have experienced. Not supposed to get online, but like Sweetpea, kept sneaking peaks at this thread. Yesterday was one minute at a time, not odat.

But I kept sneaking peaks and kept reading words on encouragement, and the offer of hands to hold and was blown away. Here I am in the middle of a group of friends who do not judge, who support unconditionally, who probably are getting to know me better than my family. It blew me away. I got home, knowing that there was a bottle of wine in the fridge, but kept thinking that I need to do this for myself (just learning how to put myself first) and don't want to waste your great support.

Of course, when my sister called at work and asked in her condescending way, "how are you, did you drink last night, are you going to that appointment I set up for you on Monday? I'll come down, in case they admit you." I immediately wanted to run around the corner to the "Good Life" and work my way around the specialty drink menu. Just kidding, but it's amazing how someone's attitutde or idea of support can get you off track.

So starting Day 2 (again) today, but with Sweetpea, East, Lukalee, Flutterby, Sparky, Cindi, Rustop, and all the other Firecrackers, your support, your advice, your offer of hands, knowing that Cindi's train is getting filled up, I'm again on my way.

Listened to a guided imagery cd last night, there were some great affirmations, am going to try to transcribe and post, but there was one that basically said that the farther you can get away from negative thoughts , the closer you get to healing.

Need to take a shower and stand out in the cold to grab a bus, yesterday was 45 minutes as I watched 3 full buses drive by. Need to make sure I dry my hair completely this morning!

just thought that I would let you know that I am making tiny steps towards some AF time. Feeling loads better now that AL hasn't got me in his grip and feeling more positive. I won't manage the 30 days in January now but I will manage to get quite a few days in as long as that :alf: keeps away from me YES YES YES

Teardrop thanks for being there yesterday it is great to be able to chat at times. It is easier not to drink when there are not loads of folk around you swigging it back. I shall be thinking of you tomorrow night and sending strong vibes

Suki, I hate condesending people who look down upon me. I think your sister has some skeletons in her perfect closet; this is why she behaves like such a jerk. Don't let her get the best of you. Sometimes it is just easier to keep your ears shut and just nod.

Day 4 and felt soooooo much like a drink last night when Mr East and East junior had one at dinner, did not give in. We have so much left from Christmas and is such a temptation.

Teardrop. Glad to hear you are OK. Wet suit? Sorry I did not understand, do you mean you felt constricted? As for the "do" that is a whole day away, just worry about right now, this moment.

Rustop. You are so right, I was arrogant thinking that after 30 days, I would have cracked it!!!! Would love to be AF forever but to scary to think that far. Just as ants move tons of soil, they do it one grain at a time, I am that ant, not looking at the mountain, but just getting the job started. It will require lots of time, patience, strength and effort .

Suki. Well done on Day 2. Waiting in the cold for a bus is bad enough, missing out when they come , how frustrating! You keep warm and make sure your hair is dry, I am shivering at the thought of it!
I have a sister who always asked if "had been drinking" when I had anything happen to me, I found it so annoying. My sister is not me and vice versa, in so many ways I am glad I do not have her life. which helps me focus on mine. I wish you the same peace. Take care.

Yes, Lukalee and East, my perfect sister is a piece of work! Doesn't work, spends her time going to yoga, walking and cooking dinner for the perfect, handsome husband and the two brilliant daughters, when they are home from Yale Law School and University of Virginia grad school, where they both got free passes and are first in their classes. Her house is spotless, her nails are perfect, she can still fit into the same clothes she wore when she met her husband 25+ years ago. Drives her little BMW station wagon to the market. Hmm, I'd like to see her try to take public transportation. Now that would make me laugh!

She told me the other day that she HATES the taste of alcohol, has no tolerance for it and hates people who drink. (Except the perfect husband, of course.) But you know what? I just don't care any more about hurting her feelings. I discovered not only have I been the caretaker all these years, I've been the peace maker too. You're right East, now when I listen to her, all I hear is blah, blah, blah.

Flutterby, keep seeing pictures about the frost in Florida. It's a wonder that your great vibes can get out of the cold south. But I know they are there.

East, loved your comment about the ant. I had an ant farm as a kid. This narrow, plastic box filled with dirt and ants. They would scurry around, making tunnels,etc. VERY impressive. Little guys, but they got the work done together.

4 days Af here toward the January AF, did 39 days af back in part Nov/Dec 07 and now trying for another 30 AF. So far so good, feel a little bit of that Friday temptation, but it will pass.

This thread is a great idea and I am going to be posting here and the monthly abstinence thread. I work at home at a home based business so will have to post after hours or during breaks.

Great to see everybody so upbeat yesterday. Loved the story about the ants Eastender, that's us Firecracking ants getting the job done. Hope you all got through Friday night ok. I must admit I find it a struggle as hubby still has his wine and there is loads of alcohol in the house. I had three AF Beck beers and it did the trick. I watched the movie and went to bed sober. Enjoy the rest of the week-end everyone.
