Lets aim for another good day and dream "Just imagine"

:beach: Lets relax and just imagine we are sitting on the beach feeling at peace with the world. The beast :alf: has tried to lure you with numerous bottles of your favorite tipple to join him on his yacht for a party. Feeling really annoyed at getting knocked back he goes into the sea to try and recruit some swimmers into joining him. You are watching with interest from the shore as he tries one by one to try to lure his next victim into joining him in a day of oblivion. Alas all his cunning ways are to no avail because in his furtive efforts he forgot he couldn't swim, got out of his depth and drowned :H NO ONE tried to save him. Everyone was thinking yes you B*****d now you know what it feels like TO BE IN BLACK HOLE ALL ALONE HA HA HA

Morning Firecrackers you can see I am beginning to feel on better form. Hope the dream was not too frivolous but OOOOOOOOOH that thought of the beast gone forever out of my life is such an incentive to get me going today - need all the help I can get at the moment

Eastender I am so pleased that you are OK I was getting a bit worried that the builder had pressed ganged you into helping him finish the job or he had smashed your computer under a ton of bricks. I hope you managed to get some quality talk time with your daughter with everything else that is going on, It is hard when they break up with a boyfriend even if they are totally not right for each other because it is only the passage of time that will make her realise he was not the one for her. Hope she is feeling better today. I am thinking of you and hope everything starts to calm down soon. Staying AF at the moment is absolutely wonderful because all the stress could have put you off your quest. Well done East LOL xx

Rustop hope you enjoyed your walk with the dogs. You are so right about families. Some of them only visiting MIL every 6/7 years is just about the pits and so very, very unfair. I am so sorry that you are going thought the mill at the moment, but as you say it is mega and they will have to get involved, like it or not. You and Mr Rus are doing right by taking a large step back. You are doing so well with your AF days well done and keep it up

Teardrop I feel as I have been at a funny stage for absolutely ages now. It was only when I did the 30 days AF that things started to look brighter to me. It made me realise that we can do it and things do get better. Drinking is a curse that sneakes up on you without you realising and that the word moderation has been destroyed in the process. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel because moderation is back in my life most of the time now. BUT I need to have plenty of AF time as well. Stress is a big factor for most of us and you have been under a tremendous amount for such a long time. Shutting yourself away for an hour or so allows you to recharge your batteries and carry on with the next job to hand -providing you don't let big AL join in the process. A nice hot bath with candles and soft music might do the trick. Things will get better LOL

I second everything Lukalee said Sweetpea. I really enjoy your posts. Love the idea of Al drowning!! Stress is a trigger for most of us and a lot of the time its habit. It takes time to break a habit. At the moment I feel I am in reverse mode. I started out 20+ years ago just having social drinks when I was out, never drinking at home. When the kids were small I progressed to drinking at home. First it was week-ends, then every night. Now I have stopped the drinking at home every night. I tried moding last year, just having a drink at week-ends but I just went back to old ways. In December I went back to 20 years ago, never drinking at home and having the odd glass of wine with meals when out. Now that would be my ideal but it's a constant battle with Al, he wants to meet up every night!!!

Keep having to tell him that the love affair is over!! He is now an occasional acquaintance.

Sounds like all are in better places today than yesterday and that can only be a good thing.

Rustop, I loved your analogy on the "love affair is over" although I hope to take it to....."and I never care to have to deal with you again"....at last not for a while.

Sweetpea - The open bar last night was "there." Just "there." Wine was served to the table and I had put my glass upside down so they poured none for me and removed the glass. I was good! So, today is Day 16 AF. Thanks for thinking of me and being such a great cheerleader. And get well !!

Thought I should check in with guys quickly before I start dinner,
Still AF and on day 17, been soooooo busy have not had a chance to be tempted.
Daughter is pretty upset and around at the moment so will go into that another time.
My house is starting to come together and builders still here, will probably have more time at the weekend to catch up with my MWO friends.
I hope things are going well for everyone and Sweetpea that you are on the mend :thumbsup

Hi all,
We have quite a few AF days between us! Congrats to Ant East, IndiaMike & Teardrop for 17, 18, and 9 days respectively. That's 44 days in all... Really good work guys. High fives as well to those of us who are keeping their eyes on the prize.

Personally, I'm not counting days as AF until I'm not thinking about who know who. The reason being is that I did not have a drink for 10 years after I quit the first time. Although life was good to me, I realize now I was not entirely AF in my mind. So when multiple stresses aligned a couple of years ago, it was enough to make me crawl back into my comfortable "numb-hole". The good news is that I am much more aware now of what I need to do to "put it in reverse" as rustop says.

Thanks to all the new approaches in dealing with addiction (compared to the very limited options a decade ago), I know that this time that quitting will be for real. Did I mention that you guys are a big part of this process? You just can't put into words how much the firecrackers and MOW has helped me on my journey.

Anyway- Here's to all of us!! May our paths lead us to happiness.

Day 18 for me and preparing for the week-end which I always find the hardest. Must remember to take my supplements!! There are times when I find this easy and times when it seems impossible. On the bright side before MWO it was always impossible.

Good morning, Sweetpea. Thanks for asking about me. Things the last week has been really bad for me. I think one of my big mistakes was staying away from the firecrackers. Starting day 3AF today. Sister called was was in a snit when she realized that I had had a couple of glasses of wine on saturday night. We haven't spoken since. How's that for support. My new therapist is great. Thinks that my sister is a self-centered narcisstic b@#$h.

She want me to go to AA. But I'm not the type , would rather stay here for a while to see if I can get to 30 days. Wish me luck.

Flutterby, your words about the path to happiness really struck home with me. Don't know what that is or how to get there. Sweetpea, love your idea of a bath, candles and music!

I have next week off, to get some much needed work done to unclutter this little place. Worried that not having the structure of going to work, might tempt that hairy,ugly beast to try yo get in. Will not answer the door!

East, glad the house is coming along. Hope your daughter is feeling better. Did you get your new van yet?Did you ever have to use the builder's pole?

Suki-- After a lot of searching for answers myself, here's what I've learned about happiness so far...
We were all born with a loving spirit.
Love = Happiness
Our spirit is unchanging but our egos (personality) can change, and will affect how our spirit is manifested.
If we can clear away our ego clutter our spirit will shine through.
Begin by loving yourself and shifting control from your ego to your spirit.
Basically known as letting go.
So simple yet so hard. But attainable!!!

Really bad one-liners

Hello Firecrackers,

I'm still with you with 17 days AF.
I have been quietly filling in the "Drinks Tracker" as the days go and I can't wait to see a whole line of 30 yellow squares.

Here are some really bad one-liners to cheer up the weekend.

I met this bloke with a didgeridoo and he was playing Dancing Queen on it. I thought, "That's Aboriginal."

This lorry full of tortoises collided with a van full of terrapins. It was a turtle disaster.

I told my girlfriend I had a job in a bowling alley. She said "Tenpin?" I said, "No, permanent."

I went in to a pet shop. I said, "Can I buy a goldfish?" The guy said, "Do you want an aquarium?" I said, "I don't care what star sign it is."

I was at a Garden Centre and I asked for something herby. They gave me a Volkswagen with no driver.

Batman came up to me and he hit me over the head with a vase and he went T'PAU! I said "Don't you mean KAPOW?? He said "No, I've got china in my hand."

I bought some Armageddon cheese today, and it said on the packet. 'Best Before End'

I went to buy a watch, and the man in the shop said "Analogue." I said "No, just a watch."

I went into a shop and I said, "Can someone sell me a kettle." The bloke said "Kenwood" I said, "Where is he then?"

My mate is in love with two schoolbags. He's bisatchel.

I went to the doctor. I said to him "I'm frightened of lapels." He said, "You've got cholera."

I met the bloke who invented crosswords today. I can't remember his name, it's P something T something R.

I was reading this book today, The History Of Glue. I couldn't put it down.

I phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just went on and on.

The recruitment consultant asked me "What do you think of voluntary work?? I said "I wouldn't do it if you paid me."

I was in the jungle and there was this monkey with a tin opener. I said, "You don't need a tin opener to peel a banana." He said, "No, this is for the custard."

This policeman came up to me with a pencil and a piece of very thin paper. He said, "I want you to trace someone for me."

I told my mum that I'd opened a theatre. She said, "Are you having me on?" I said, "Well I'll give you an audition, but I'm not promising you anything."

I phoned the local builders today, I said to them "Can I have a skip outside my house?" He said, "I'm not stopping you!"

This cowboy walks in to a German car showroom and he says "Audi!"

I fancied a game of darts with my mate. He said, "Nearest the bull goes first" He went "Baah" and I went "Moo" He said "You're closest"

I was driving up the motorway and my boss phoned me and he told me I'd been promoted. I was so shocked I swerved the car. He phoned me again to say I'd been promoted even higher and I swerved again. He then made me managing director and I went right off into a tree. The police came and asked me what had happened. I said "I careered off the road"

I visited the offices of the RSPCA today. It's tiny: you couldn't swing a cat in there.

I was stealing things in the supermarket today while balanced on the shoulders of a couple of vampires. I was charged with shoplifting on two counts.

I bought a train ticket to France and the ticket seller said "Eurostar" I said "Well I've been on telly but I'm no Dean Martin.

I phoned the local gym and I asked if they could teach me how to do the splits. He said, "How flexible are you?" I said, "I can't make Tuesdays or Thursdays."

I went to the local video shop and I said, "Can I take out The Elephant Man?" He said, "He's not your type." I said "Can I borrow Batman Forever?" He said, "No, you'll have to bring it back tomorrow"
