Well back from vacation and have a lot of catching up to do both ont he boards and in the laundry department!! Feel the break away did me good, allthough a lot happening on the outlaw front at the moment which isnt a help. Stayed AF last night and want to get as much AF time as I can until the end of the month.

Hi, all.

Lovely weather here in the states, 80* with low humidity. Trying to send across the pondbut we'll just have to see if it makes it!

Feeling a little anxious (although not interested in reacing for AL) today. Any day now, I will be finding out if I return to Afghanistan managing a large program for the US govt, based out of Kabul but spread throughout the country. Part of me really wants to go for after all, we helped create the mess and someone next to help make it better. It is what I do for a living so not a stretch. I spent most of 2006 there as well. And, one must be totally AF for alcohol is not allowed anytime, anywhere. And then there is, of course, knowing I will be away from my family for a year with only occasional visits.

But the work is exhilarating and VERY rewarding for me personally. We work 7 days a week and live in compounds so a very quiet life except for our work. We also develop great relationships with those we work with both ex-pat and locals. So there are real rewards.

I know, I know, I am just tossing all about today as the time draws near. I have been preparing for the "just in case" for the past few months (medical updates, ipod ready, home for Ali my cat arranged, etc) and am now ready for the "word". If it doesn't come, I'll need to work to find another assignment but I really want this one. I have been there and want to return to continue the work. My friends and family think I am "nuts" that I have done my bit. But I say.....it's not done yet.

Erin what an interesting and worthwhile job you have!
Your worries have made mine pale into insignificance today. Done me good I think!
Must start thinking about life in the "big picture" just how you are doing now.
Worthwhile I think that is what we all strive for, a meaning to life. You sure have one.
I am sure that your family must be so worried but very proud of you and your acheivements.
I thank you all for your kind wishes for yesterday,My consultant wants to operate herself,her schedule mean't that it would be on 22 August, it was my choice if I wanted sooner, but another Doctor that I do not know. I opted for sticking with consultant,she has a very good reputation and well know in the field.
So a countdown to that date now but I guess I now know when the day is!
I have not been very good over the weekend but trying hard from today.
Glad you had a good holiday Rustop. Wish I could have one,but this year out for Italy my favorite place. most of it closes in October:upset:

Firstly.Dear East i am so pleased you got your date.Albeit a little way away.Not too bad for the NHS.I am confident that you will feel so much better after the op.Having worked for the NHS for 26 yrs,its not without fault, but on balance i think they do a grand job.I wish you the best of luck with it all xx

Kat very pleased the alcohol free is going well and that you learned from your last slip. I am moderating really well at the moment but am still not convinced that I would not be better off AF all the time. There will come a time that I will make that decision I am sure

I really admire folk like you who put so much into doing things for other people - I know it is your job but even so it takes real commitment and dedication to carry it out in adverse conditions:l

East so glad you have now got a date and least the wondering when it will happen has now been sorted. If having a date to work to you will be able to settle down a bit and the time will soon go. Having a really good consultant is well worth waiting for:l - I am sure the house is already spic and span in anticipation so don't spend the time doing what you have already cleaned - have some you time for you and Mr East :h

As you say without MWO, and the strength being AF gives you,( If only for a short time) I KNOW I would have not done anything about my own health. Good for you and I wish you all the best!

G'Morning all and thanks for your kind thoughts. Reality is though, people like me may be dedicated but we also have a bit too much stupidity and daring in us sometimes to be classified as normal! Hmmmmm.....looking forward to an assignment that will take me into a war zone. What exactly is wrong with this picture? So, the waiting continues. Good news, I have no desire for AL. None...I am too focused on other things and know I will need to be 150% if we win award for all hell will break lose in the work department, plus rounds to see my children/family before deployment. Oh, and gotta get that garbage disposal fixed!

Luk - I posted on your other thread and am pleased to see you found someone to work with you. It's a great start and a big step. So glad you found your voice!

Still have not caught up on all the posts since coming back so have not read yours yet Lukalee but sending you lots of cyber hugs. East, glad you got the date for your operation. As you say having that long stint AF made things clearer and you are, like the rest of us gradually getting things sorted out.

Erin, good luck, glad that you will have internet access when you are away, keep checking in and letting us know how you are getting on.

Sweetpea, well done on the moderating. Take it a day at a time, I find that the more AF time I get under my belt the stronger I feel. Today is Day 3 and have tonight planned out so it will be another AF one. MIL is in hospital but luckily favourite son is home from US, so am very much taking a back seat despite numerous phone calls to try and rope me in!!! I feel much stronger in that department and I feel my cousin RIP is very much helping me. I just point out that I and the girls have been through a very rough time and are not up to any more upset!!! Let them get on with it, received zero thought or consideration when I was going through it so what goes around comes around.

Welcome Suez2225. Good job Mad mummy on resisting the temptation. I know when I'm stressed and drink it might dull it initally but the hangover is worse when I'm stressed. Nothing I'm sure you don't know. Rustop, good job on day 4, smart to step back and take care of yourself and not get roped in. My therapist asked me once if I ever talk to God or ask for Gods help, sometimes and alot of times like you mentioned I feel a passed loved one is looking after me. Our special guardian angels. Indiamike, we are so fortunate to have people like you that are dedicated to our country. No stupidity there. I will catch up with anyone I missed later. Put down my Codependent No More book for alittle bit as it was pissing me off. (I related too much) will pick it up again and try to finish and let you know. Take care.
