    Reason # 5: Al Stinks

    Hi all,

Again thank you for bearing with me as I work on the 30 day thing and list my 30+ reasons to stop drinking. Yesterday was easy. It always is after I slip and recommit myself to this!! I actually did not even think about it! I slept well and just got back from a long swim this morning!! Ready to take on the day!!!

Reason # 5 not to drink: Al Stinks!!!! The smell goes beyond your breath. It permeates your pores. No hiding it - people know when you have been drinking.

    Have a great weekend!!!!!

Good Morning Evergreen and all, I'm going on day 5 AF and shooting for 30 as well. Another thing I don't like about alcohol, Heartburn.

It is awful isn't it? The way we smell like we have been drinking. There was NO hiding it with me. My sister once mentioned (Days after my last drink) that no amount of expensive perfume could cover the smell of alcohol. How embarrassing!!! I was walking around for years like this. I was fooling NO ONE!

That is Mortifying!! I have a pretty poor sense of smell so could never smell myself but to think others could...... how awful. Another b***dy good reason to stop. This list of 30 reasons is a very good idea Evergreen - maybe put them all into one post at the end so we can print it off?

Yea my hubby told me that he could smell it coming out of my pores when I was asleep at night. I just thought he was getting smart with me. Guess he was right after all. I mean, I can smell his cigarette smell on him!

            good reason!!

Yeah, I have a horrible sense of smell also, and seem to hope and think that chewing gum will cover the smell if I had a beer w/lunch, that is scarey, I will NEVER do that again!!!! (not that I have done it more than once or twice ) Out of our pores too, yeah, probably knocking people over behind me at the gym the way I sweat!!:H

Good reading, I am sooooooooooooo bored here at work, just wish 4:00 would get here!!!

Evergreen: I absolutely hated the black-outs. I hated not knowing what I did & said. Mary

Mary, the blackouts, I also hated, and worried about so much, they were the worst part of
drinking. If I could remember what had happened previously, I didn't think I was drunk.
Ihave done things in blackout when nobody else noticed anything unusual. That is scary !.

Not only did I black out, I would get a headache that would last at least 24 hours. I'm so grateful I wake up now knowing what I did and said the night before and living my day to the fullest. Gone are the days when I puked my guts out all morning until there was nothing left. Even when there was nothing left, I would have the dry heaves causing me to have a major stomach ache.

Ah .... I hated the loss of memory, that loss would then present me with the most tremendous anxiety the next day further worsened by that awful smell and achey head/sinuses. Am grateful to be 21 days af today, j

I am amazed at how keen my sense of smell has become since I quit drinking. I can smell alcohol on someone 10 yards away. It doesn't matter if it's fresh alcohol or that nasty stale alcohol from the night before. It's nauseating. I can just imagine what I used to smell like. My wife, too, has said she could smell it coming out my pores at night when I slept... God Bless her for staying with me all those years...I'm a lucky man

No 5 is a bit of an eye opener..... the breath, sure, but the pores?
I guess it makes sense though when you smell a smoker, so why not a drinker.

Odd, as I have a good sense of smell, but then, smokers can't smell themselves or their clothes etc, so I guess we drinkers shouldn't be any different.
That is a fairly good reason to hate the stuff.
The blackouts........... how embarrassing when you have to ask how a tv show ended or what did I say at the party....or dangerously to self and others... how did I get home. Janka put it so succinctly.

                          forgot about those!

Blacking out and not remembering what you did and worrying about it the next day??? I hated that, hasn't happened for quite a while, but the reminder is good so I will really try to stop!!! :thanks:

I hate the black-outs when you cant remember the journey home in a cab from a night club. Or even when you go to bed waking up thinking but cant remember weather you did or not. Hate those moments.
