Newbies in need ODAT - Thursday

    suki
I came home at lunch and did the hypno CD and decided to go back to work. Yesterday at 5:00 was really touch and go, but tonight I feel so much better. Thank you all for posting. It really was a rough day, but I got through thanks to all of you. Now if I could just get some sleep. Good luck tonight everyone!

Time2, glad things are getting calmer for you. It is so hard. I know. So do all of us here.

It's hard to change years of habit. I've never been one for healthy alternatives, but lately, I've tried warm milk (awesome, knocks me right out, and I don't need the kahlua in it that I used to), herbal teas (like tension tamer or sleepyime). Instead of coming home and reaching for the vodka in the freezer, I make a cup of herbal tea. Two months ago, I would have called to have myself committed. But staying on this site. learning about what others are going through, learning about who your friends are, learning about what you can learn from the experience of everyone here, the possibilities are endless.

The sleep will come. I used to use AL to help me sleep. Not real.

Stay here, read, post, get to know the wonderful people here. You will love it and yourself.

But I find that the support here is so important.

        Time2,

Please understand that lack of sleep is an issue for alcoholics, withdrawing or not.

Many have found that supplements - melatonin, 5HTP, or L-Tryptophan help, but not totally. Your brain is so trying to figure out what the hell is going on. If you can be patient, and I know it is hard, but patience is required here, you will get to where you are sleeping on your own and do not need anything.

It happens suddenly. My hubby is amazed that I sleep a whole 6 hours!! (When drinking, I slept a whole 4 hours a night.)

Sometimes, when I am really tired, I even sleep 8 hours a night!!

The truly amazing thing is, when I do sleep now, I wake up feeling refreshed instead of groggy and fogged.

        This does take time, though.

Patience.. unfortunately not one of an alcoholic's virtues. We are used to quick fixes. Give it some time.

I don't think any of you know how much you all helped me today. My freinds at work didn't know that I am also dealing with the alcohol issue, but you all know exactly what I'm going through. db2,suki,cowgal,october,teacher,rust, two, charlee, keeper, juli, and everyone else (sorry for those I missed) you really stopped me from needing to come home and pour a drink. On top of everything else I broke a tooth tonight and am terrified of dentist but an posting instead of drinking. Love you all!!!!!!!

            time2,

            :l :l :l :l

Wow, a broken tooth on top of worrying about your sons.

You can do this. Get the tooth fixed. Work with the youngest and let the college one know he has to make it happen.

Life is difficult. We can handle it.

MWO friends will be here to help you through it.

I have been there, too. It is hard but worth every second of the battle.

            Love,

One more thing I want to add.

My "earthing hubby" would simply never look to drugs or alcohol to make things better. For him, that is not an option, he wouldn't even consider it. He just gets into action. That is what we must do. Get into action...

              Love,

The tooth is another one of those irritants that would have been a good excuse for me to have a drink...keep reading and posting, try to sleep well and tomorrow you get to call the dentist!!!!...Stay well
