    Newbie here.. just saying hello

I found out last month that I've been carrying Hepatitis B for quite some time. (Still unclear on how that happened).
Apparently my social drinking in combination with the Hep B, agitated my liver to the point of significant scaring.
As a result, I went cold turkey 5 weeks ago.
After drinking, more than moderately for 35 years, I haven't had much of a problem just quiting thus far.

I realize its still early in the process, and I do crave an icy cold one at times, but nothing that isnt controllable.

Feeling very lucky that this was discovered before I was past the point of no return, and other than those occassional urges, doing pretty well.

Just wierd thinking about never having another drink ever.

        Good,

        :welcome:

So sorry about the hep B. Bummer!!

If staying away from the alcohol is tough, you have come to the right place.

Glad you are here and hope you get better.

One of our members posted an interesting article on here about a drug used in the UK that seems to have the ability to help the liver undo some scarring. I can't remember the name of the drug.

        I'll try searching for it.

This was posted by Determinator on another thread.

anybody heard anything about this recently in the US? truly a wonderful breakthrough. Seems most of the studies have been in the UK

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words and special thanks to Cindi for the EXCELLENT article on HSCs.

Already planning to ask the doc about sulfasalazine as a way to improve those liver cells!
            Thanks Again!

              Welcome.

The people here will help you stay strong.
One thing to do is not to think about never having another drink. Its too overwhelming for me also. I have a long period being AF. ( In the past ) You have to look at it day by day. Before you know it, its been a year

Keeping the liver is a real motivator.

While I did my share of drinking, it's looking like the years of undetected Hep B took its toll more than the alcohol.

The docs kept offering me drugs for withdrawl, etc, but I didnt take anything at all.
I've not had any problems just giving it up, no shakes, no uncontrolable urges, (guess Im a real amateur!)

Just a bit of an empty feeling now and then about giving it up completely.

                      Hi good2,

I talked to you in chat a bit earlier today, I would have mentioned the Hep if I had seen this post.

I found out I had Hep C when I first joined MWO 2 years ago. Thankfully I didn't have much liver damage, although I had been drinking heavily for a couple years before I found out.

I was sober for 6 months went through treatment and cleared the virus, but went back to drinking. Now I'm learning to deal with drinking like I started out to do before I had that shocking diagnosis.

There are great tools and advice here.

                      Welcome
                      Marcie
