Christmas present to myself and NY's resolutions

    Hi all;

I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to everyone, and a big thanks to all who have posted positive, supportive threads! Also - hi and welcome to all the newbiews like myself, and especially those who fall from grace, but have enough courage to admit it, and keep trying :h .

Anyway - here are my new Year's resolutions for the 2008 year (golas is probably a better way of saying this):
    • Never drink more than three drinks a night (no binge drinking).
    • Never drink to the point where I know I will have a hangover the next day.If I am sober enough to realize I am getting out of hand, to stop right away and drink a glass of water.Once a month go 5 days AF.

Looking forward to a more sober 2008

My New Year's resolution is an AF 2008....pretty ambitious goal, but I really need to do it. Day 38 AF right now - I'll be here throughout 2008 letting you know if I made it. Either way I am sure 2008 will be a better year as I have found new friends and much support here at MWO.

I know that I cannot drink at all. I wish you good luck with your goals everyone. My first goal is to make it through January AF. Super Bowl for me (actually any day) will be difficult, but I plan on making it through with everyone's help!!!! Thanks for all you do!!!!

Pam: It's an AF 2008 for me too. I'm 80AF days today, & even my worst day sober is better than my best day drinking. I realize that I cannot handle drinking...even a little. Mary

I just want to throw it all away and be done!! A memory of how awful it was --the mistakes made-- would be all I'd want to take from it. A little something to inspire me not to do it!! Don't take that sip...you don't need it!!

                Night all...
Working on it... AF as of...[sigh]. Today...today is all that matters.

                  Wow!

Wow all. Lots of enthusiasm out there, and frankly, when I look back at my goals (no hangovers, no drinking during the week) , they seem pretty "liberal" compared to the AF folks. You are all really inspirational, :h to be able to do that. I am not there yet, but maybe soon.

My ultimate goal is to be AF, but frankly I do not want to set myself up for disappointment, which is why I do not want to go there just yet. At this point, I am setting concrete, realistic goals, with the hope that reducing drinking will help me get to a point where I can go AF. It has been about 3 weeks since I have had a hangover, which may not seem like much , but it is better than where I was - every day waking up still drunk, or else reeking of booze. Not a good way to start the day. I really am trying to think about each drink, and ask if I really need it or not.

Anyway - I am certainly looking forward to starting off 2008 with a new outlook on life, goals to decrease drinking, and new frineds (MWO support) for my drinking habits.

Good luck to all who intend to go AF in 2008!!!!

                    Hi Minsk and all,

My goals are much the same as yours. Total AF deprivation somehow triggers a stubborn part of me, and ends up making me worse! So moderation is really the only thing that works for any length of time. Good luck to all of us!

I've been doing the 'cutting back' thing for a few months now - it has felt pretty good. The drinking got a bit heavier during the holidays... which has further encouraged me to go all the way.
So as of yesterday, I've begun a good long AF stretch. At least a month or two, maybe several, maybe forever!
                      Good luck to all!
                      FINALLY -- I'm a non-drinker!!

                        Important thread I guess:-O

My goals are to be AF from the 1st of January but to achieve it without cravings, and to find a method that is easy for everybody to follow.

                        Never dream too big.
