Newbies in need ODAT - Thursday

    Good morning everyone

Day 3 for me and I see I am in good company. Miss October, Universal, Kat20, FinallyRN, Keeta. Quite a few ahead of us Harvey, Suzanna, Will4272, Askforhelp. Those just behind Dexterhead, Diane 52. I have been here many times before so I KNOW I CAN DO IT, if its your first try the first week can be difficult but stick with it. To those of you who maybe did not mention your count yesterday, apologies for not including you above.

Cindi, thinking of you and keeping you daughter in my prayers.
Suki, you sound so positive starting the new year, keep it up, we are all there for you.
Tylyr, keep coming back, dont let slips put you off.
Eastender, thanks for the quotes yesterday
Charlee, well done on the AF dinner
JamesH, lots of members take campral, check around on the boards or maybe post an enquiry under General Discussion, you will get feed back.
Taking Control - I too had 120 days AF last year and am aiming for a lot more this year

Beetlove, Ratan, Vitax, Lukalee33, Deena, Welcome, keep posting and let us know how you are getting on.

I have been saving the best for last. This is a lady who has been an inspiration to me. I saw her struggles in the early days and took pleasure in her achievements as she went along. Like us all there were slips but today our very own Reteacher has achieved 90 DAYS ALCOHOL FREE. A huge CONGRATULATIONS Mary, you should be so so proud of yourself.

A heartwarming post Rustop. Thanks a lot. I think we all need to congratulate Mary, she is quite inspirational, and is a great help to me, as I know she is to others too. Slip ups are my biggest problem, and I become depressed because of them, yet, I know that this THING must not get the better of me. Thanks everyone for your support. Tylyr

Morning Rust, it is such a comfort to see this thread started.

Mary, tylyr and Rust are right YOU ARE A REAL INSPIRATION!

Was doing pretty good until last night, bad day at work and I slipped and thought a bottle of wine would help. Right. Tylyr, I used to get depressed after slipping, but my depression would make me drink more. I'm not perfect, but I'm using every slip as learning experience to make me stronger. I'm sure I've said this so many times, but my grandmother used to say "Never regret what you have done, only regret what you have not done." I keep thinking that if I didn't slip, I would never know how much I really want to join Mary and others to be AF.

To every who posts/read Rustop's thread today, have a great day.

Cindi, thinking of you and your daughter.

Good morning all! Mary a huge congratulations on 90 days! I bet after 90 days it's almost like you have the body of a non-drinker! Well I'd like to think so because the body is amazing in it's ability to bounce back. That's my motivation, I want to be clear headed and healthy and give my body a chance to recover from it's daily onslaught of wine. Day 3 for me.

Cindi, I am thinking of you, and your daughter. :l

            On to Day 4

I'm on to day 4. Day 3 was great, but I feel kind of like I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Going to have to be careful.

Good luck to all of us.

Morning all, and thank you Rustop for starting this mornings thread.
Mary....Congratulations on a huge milestone, you are truly an inspiration.
I am so glad to see this thread growing, and for all of you just starting...fight with all you have to get thru the first week, for many of us it was the hardest. The payoff can be amazing......Being able to regain control is such a wonderful feeling. This journey, no matter the goal, is a process, there can be bumps in the road, and that is where we need to dust ourselves off, stay positive and just move forward. We can do this by just choosing not to drink today....

Rustop - It sure sounds like you are back on the way!! So happy to hear it.

Everyone else - Keep it up. By the time you all hit 10 days, your sleep will be much better, you will wake up totally refreshed and despite the cravings (yes, we all have them) you will start seeing truly how much better it is NOT to drink.

So, everyone let's just handle those cravings ODAT and if that is too hard, OHAT. (hour)

Ru, tylyr, Suki, Suzanna - You have no idea how much it means that you are thinking of my daughter. I am scared to death and she is in serious denial. Your thoughts help me stay on track and remember that staying sober is so important in dealing with this. I will let you know when I finally get her to a good doctor (should be by tomorrow if insurance paperwork is processed) and at least get a good diagnosis. I am so afraid I already know what it is but she won't listen to me and continues to drink.

Rudemama - Keeping you in my thoughts, day 1 is hard to break through. If you make it today, though, tomorrow will be even more doable. Hang in there.

Harvey - There are ups and downs to this, see above. By day 10, you are gonna be amazed.

To everyone dealing with ODAT. Please remember, AL (the beast), is in our heads. He/She is going to do whatever he/she can to convince us that drinking is good. Our rational minds know it is not good but our addictive minds know it is. The craving itself will last less than a minute if you do something positive to defray it. It really does. Stand up and move around, log in and post, chat, read something, do anything you can to distract the beast and then he/she shuts up and you have made it through one of those "moments." Those moments become less and less frequent as you go further down the AF path.

For those who do slip, do not beat yourself up but just learn from the experience, ask yourself what triggered it, what let you "think" it was a good thing to do, and figure out how to beat that trigger next time. Then jump right back on to AF and zoom off again.

Okay. I've prattled enough except for one more thing.

Mary - Us ODATers love and admire you. Congratulations again on 90 Days!! You have hit a huge milestone, both mentally and physically, by staying AF all this time. I am so proud of you.

                Love and strength to all,
                Cindi

Happy Thursday all you ODATer's !!

It sure is freezing here in New Jersey. 10 degress and that does not even include the wind chill factor. I'm moving south where it is hot :H

Rustop, very nice post. Thank you so much. And yes you are in very good company. I completed my AF Day 2 last night, and tonight I will work on that 3 day.

Tylyr, we all slip, and yes we get mad. I get tired of going back to Day 1, but I'm really hoping if I keep reading and posting everyday, I will get the support I need not to drink, and so will you.

Suki, just pick yourself right back up today. Today is a new day. Good luck.

Rudemama, good for you saying no to the beast today. Vitamins and a walk sound great, and it's good for you.

Suzanna I'm with you. I need to give my body and mind a break also from my daily intake of too much wine. I'm right there with you !

HarveyD, you are doing great ! Maybe you just did not have a good night sleep and felt like you got up on the wrong side of the bed. Hopefully your day will be good, so you can have a great AF tonight.

Charlee, thanks for your words of inspiration.

And yes of course, Congratulations to Mary on completing a 90 day journey to sobriety. What an awesome milestone :wow3:

Newbies in need ODAT - Thursday

                          Hi everyone!

On Day 3 here in my quest for an AF January - my first AF month since joining and I am very determined to do it. Everyone says that getting an AF month under your belt is the best way to determine whether you want to try to mod or go completely AF and since I haven't decided what my path is going to be (I'm only 33 years old and I think I could moderate but I want to be sure what is right for me) I am very much looking forward to this AF month! I feel really great, still could sleep better but as some of you already know, that is always a problem for me anyway but it sure is nice to not wake up hungover, that's for sure! I'm feeling incredibly positive, am really pleased with how well the L-Glut helps with cravings (if any of you newbies is wondering, take one when a craving hits, they really work!)......

Rustop - as always, you amaze me with how you remember everything - Mary - CONGRATS!!!!! 90 days, that is fantastic.

Cin - thinking of you and wishing you the best for your daughter, and congrats on 6 days.

To everyone who follows and to all who are moderating or AFing - wishing you the best - ODAT.

                          Love ya,
                          Uni
Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.

Good Morning all, Honored to be in your company. Day 3 here as well. 20 degrees in Cleveland Ohio, looks like we have the heat wave. Congrats to Mary, I so want to do that. For now I'm getting a real clear understanding of ODAT. Cindi, don't know the story with your daughter, I have a sister 2 years younger than me in denial of her alcohol problem and theres not much I can do but love her and hope she gets help. Realized awhile back when I thought I was helping her I was just enabling her. Very painful to break that, as she thinks I'm just mean. Was it Harvey? Someone was asking about Campral, I am on it a second time as I ran out over the Holidays, not sure it would of helped anyway. It does seem to help when your mind set in in the right place to try. Have not tried Topimax but I don't think it has as strong effect as that does. I do believe it does help with cravings alittle even though it is'nt necessarly prescribed for that. Also have very little side effects with it. Some folks heve mentioned GI troubles. Best to all of you, Lets do this !
