Newbies in need ODAT - Friday

Hi all. Been a bit busy and away but really glad to see these ODAT threads going strong. On day 5 today (AF on New Years Eve!) and got through a real sticky patch last night so feeling pleased with myself. I know these are the hardest days - but I will do it. My birthday on Monday and a friend is cooking me dinner and inviting others. I will be expected to drink - my husband has already expressed surprise when I hinted that I wont. That makes me want to stay AF even more. That will be day 8 and I don't think I've gone that long before. Be a real shame to spoil it. I will be going hunting the next day and it's an early start so that comes in as a good excuse (though I have hunted with some serious hangovers before now!!)

Also, hubby has announced that he is cutting down - just one glass of wine a night!!! Oh no! That means the rest of the bottle left.... Can't have that so I suggested that he make it one beer or one whisky a night. No temptation to me then. He agreed. Phew! I told him it would make it easier for me.

Just quickly cos rushing - big congrats to Reteacher on the 90 days + !! And love to you all.

    Bessie xx

Good Morning, Love to start my day here. Today is my day off so I slept in and posted alittle late. I woke up wondering how the weekend was going to go. Then I got on and saw Harveyd and miss october having the same concerns. Lukalee, take my license too pleeeaaase!!!! That always seems to be where I've blown in in the past. I am encouraged and not alone to go it with all of you and know how proud I will feel Monday morning if I stay AF through the weekend. Happy AF Weekend All.

        Good morning everyone-

Miss O, I can totally relate to the drums! I need to find a new Santa, because Santa brought a 5 piece drum set for my 12 year old. Hello?!>!?!? What was I thinking???? And when Santa brought those dang things, there were NO flipping drum mutes........ until the 26th. But "mute" doesn't really mean QUIET, it just means "less obnoxious"! :nutso:

If I can make one suggestion........ in between the pounding of the drums, and the squeeling guitar strings................. listen for the laughter. Listen to your son, as he's joking around with his buddies. After they are done practicing their songs.....and you hear them bragging about themselves.... relish the moments. Open up your brain, and file the memories in the "healthy home" cabinet. You've got a talented son that's striving to be the best, and you're lucky to be there to share it. :bigwink: Think of it this way: if he was at one of his friend's homes on Friday night, you'd be greeted by a wall of utter silence ........ which could also be a great invitation for Mr A. :alf: to sneak into your house.

And Bessie... I don't know what the official position is supposed to be about "Alcohol Free" wines, but I've bought a couple for Christmas and New Years. They are definitely not as delicious as the real thing, but when I have a fancy meal, I want a glass of wine with it. If you buy any of them, I'd recommend chilling them (even the red). There's always the sparkling apple or grape juice as an option..... I found a Kristian Regal Sparkling Black Currant juice at the grocery store that is not as sweet as the Welch's, but looks fancy in my wine glass. At least I'm keeping my hands occupied!:bday2:

        Have a happy Friday, everyone!

          Drums!

          Miss O and Not So,

This is very weird but someone (not Santa) bought my nephew digital drums for Xmas. They remained in the loungeroom for 4 days and were never silent, even thou you're only supposed to hear them through the head phones. The pounding was dulled but relentless! I hope someone makes a lot of money out of this in the Rock scene, because I've already paid.

          Yours in Suffering

Bessie, have missed you! Good to have you back, and now you can race to start the thread again. I haven't tried the non-al wines yet. Maybe after awhile I shall bring one to a family thing, but it should be safe for awhile now that holidays are over.
Miss October and KAT20, your drinking licenses are REVOKED!! I shall be in chat tonight looking for support.
Finally RN, you gotta get up much earlier to beat the east coasters, lol. Look for ya'll later!

Just checking in quickly. I'm still at work. Let's see, my license has been taken away by lukalee, and revoked by Suzanna .......:thanks: Hope it works cause AL has already been sneaking inside my head this afternoon......I can't stand this. Suzanna, I'll check in on chat tonight cause I sure need the support to get me through tonight.

Happy Life, Back to the drums.....those guitar strings are hooked up to huge watt amps....they shake, rattle, and roll my entire house. I do enjoy them......I must......my son has been playing drums for 4 years now with his friends.

Long Road, I'm waiting for my payback too. Already purchased two drums set, 2 guitars, 1 bass, electric keyboard, recording equipment...purchased many tickets to see my own son play in these gigs (imagine that ?) Can't wait until he makes it big :band2:

                Ms O,

Even The (Silver) Beatles started in Mrs. Harrison's garage. So it is possible.
As long as he doesn't want to be 50 cent.

Long Road..... my 12 year old is exploring his personal talent, and today, he proudly boasted and then played, his very own rendition of Queen's "We Will Rock You!".

                  Bom-bom-crash! Bom-bom-crash!
(And he has my singing voice.... which is why he should stick to the drums! )

                    ODATers,

Remember, Fri, Sat and Sun are just 3 days of the week. Nothing special at all. Yes, I know the routines of drinking are there and must be broken, but they are truly just 3 days of the week.

I have been laid down today with a headache but at least it wasn't a hangover!!

                    Love,
                    Cindi

Once again, after work post from me...thanks to you all for this thread, I read everyone's posts and they do help.

Day 2 of the supplements, my CD's arrived today, will get onto iPod tomorrow. Still waiting for the Topa.

Whether it's real, or memorex, I am noticing a difference in my cravings and attitude since starting the supplements even after two days.

I went out to dinner tonight with my hubby while the kids were skiing, and had ONE beer instead of THREE. When my husband ordered his second, I couldn't believe it. My first one was only 1/2 full. Usually, mine is empty first and I wait for him.

I just was looking through this thread and read Deena's quote from Helen Keller. I find it really inspiring. What else did Helen say???

Hi all. Been reading these ODATers' the past couple of days. Great support from everyone. Today is day 1 AF for me, but the second day this wk. I really didn't struggle at all today, maybe it's the supps, or the NYear or all the reading on these posts that are helping. I keep thinking about the beast and the poison, and really hate that AL is the one in control....

                            Time for a change.

                            Thanks for all the encouragement.
Nancy, I too love the quote from Helen Keller. That is the best!
