    scared to death

this is my second attemp at becoming free of the chains. my first was unsuccesful because i tried to do it myself. the embarrasment of admitting to people that i have a problem was to much for me. still is. i am hopeful that this will help. i at this point need all the help and advise i can get. thank you all and may god bless.:new:

I'm not one to give advice (yet) as I'm still pretty new here. I can tell you that I ordered the starter kit, and the CD's and WOW what a difference they make.

Add to it the reading you can do here, and the support available online, and maybe that's the difference you need!

      Superwoman

More than happy to be here with you, being able to admit the existence of this disease, and that is what it is, is a HUGE step in the right direction.
You have now admitted this to yourself and to the rest of us working the same road as you, you've started and starting is the hardest piece.
Don't worry about the first relapse it happens, there maybe more but so long as you come back to fight again you can overcome this super monster.
I am no expert on this now one day 2 of AF, stopped for 18 months once but relapsed for the twenty years, know a lot of the theory but have sadly failed to apply it to myself until now. We are in this together, these forums, which I would advise you to go to in moments of stress and sharing your feelings can help hugely, I also find that if I do a five minuet contract with myself then the time of need/greed passes by.

Try to look after yourself, exercise is usually a good thing, and stay in touch.

      Many blessings, M

          scared to death

thank you all sooo much for the support. this is my first couple of hours in recovery and as you all know the monster is calling me to come back. i live a pretty lonely life, pushed most people away so they wouldn't know how much i drink. my child {my angel} has gone to live with dad, after 14 years of the madness i guess he couldn't handle it anymore. that breaks my heart. it's good to know i am not alone in my battle,in fact i feel like i have my own army. it's also amazing how a few words of encouragement can calm the fear. thanks again.

              scared to death

Superwoman Welcome, I am fairly new here as well, joined back in july and did'nt start posting till Sept. Have tried several times and failed. Each time I find myself stronger to try again. Thanks to a good doctor, therapist and this web site. Lately I've been on the ODAT thread. Really helps as that is what it takes. Glad you found us.

                Scared

I felt very scared the first two weeks or so on topamax--not because of the topamax, I guess, tho' I did get a headache and some sleepiness at first, but I kept waiting for my brain to blow up or my hair to start coming out in handfuls or something. I'm at 100mg. and will be going up to 150mg this week. The cognitive stuff is also not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, and seems to go away, or at least taper off. Also, I thought that the kudzu was a little wild, (kudzu?), but I forgot to take it one night before dinner, and it was harder to resist the wine (but I still only drank one glass). Progress!

                        scared to death

                        Dear Superwoman,
                        Welcome to MWo.
Yep, it all can be very daunting, overwhelming and fearful. There is no need to feel embarrassed here, as we're all in the same situation to different degrees.
Trust yourself that you can get through this. You'll find a lot of help andsupport from people on this site. Read through the threads in First Time Here, and the Topomax, Campral forums, read the book and start thinking about strategies you can use that will hold you off from drinking. If letting someone know you have a drinking problem is too much for you... simple. Don't tell them till you have the confidence to do so.... I assume this is friends and familky you're talking about. It's weird that it is ourselves who put the big shame thing on having this problem, which is no different than having any other medical problem. Boy do we put ourselves on such a huge guilt trip.. which of course lowers our self esteem etc etc etc so we stay on the merry go round of guilt, shame, remorse, anger. But gee, it feels so good when you step off.
Welcome once again, and keep posting.
