    Sod`s Law!

Hello all, I don`t know whether to laugh my socks off or throw myself on the floor in a hissy fit. We all know how we dreaded facing Xmas and New Years with all the drinks around and trying to be AF but we got through it and were glad to start afresh in Jan well our New Year ended up being a damp squib, we travelled over 400 miles to be with the family but Mr Twit ended up with acute bronchitus so on New Years Eve the rest of the family celebrated with their drinks and I had Valerian in hot water to help me sleep as I was then 12days AF and Mr Twit had nightnurse and Beechams!
Anyhow it was tough old break watching them all drink when I wasn`t and was secretly pleased to go back to normality at home but guess what the family rang last night to say as they think we didn`t enjoy it due to Mr.Twits illness they want us to go down on the
2nd of Feb so we can celebrate New Years Eve all over AGAIN, I can`t believe I have to do it all again, it`ll be even worse this time as Mr.Twit has recovered and will be drinking too, I swear I must have been really bad in a previous life lol.
Anyone who is sniggering at my misfortune please do quietly so I can`t hear you lol

    Love Twit x

OMG! Sorry, but you should write a comedy sitcom for a living! You certainly have talent!

All kidding aside.....EEE Gads!! What's a woman to do? At least you will have more AF time under your belt by the next "celebration"! You will do just great! Not to mention the one feeling the Best and Celebrating a great day when you wake up!!

    Good Luck!

I'm not sniggering but laughing out loud. The Twits are my favourite Dahl people! I now have a mental image of you both.

        You can do it.

I guess it all depends on how you look at it, I am giving up in the company of two bottles of wine, my tipple, three bottles of scotch, haven't touched the stuff in years, a bottle of gin and a bottle of tequilla.

My theory is that giving up without the stuff in reach is teaching me I can't be anywhere near it, and for my that's unacceptable, I am not having my life controlled by AL inside of me or outside.

I know if I haven't got it here I can drive to the supermarket or off license and buy it, don't want to think I can't be where anyone else is drinking, intend to avoid anywhere where I am expecting everyone to be smashed but am not giving up every party, wedding and funeral because Al will be there. It isn't that strong, try not to empower it, if you know this is going to be a huge binge affair why not take someone else with you who might be a bit more responsible and keep you company.

I remember years ago and whilst dry, going to the most boring new years party, every one else was drunk and God were they boring, just like me when drunk!

Keep up the great work, keep trying to find new ways to survive and try not to empower our demon!

            Blessings, M.

              Hamlet,

Me too - I have personally decided not to drink - but my wife still drinks moderately (well TBH she hasn't had any alcohol all year yet! - Perhaps my AFness is catching?!)

My fridge has a six pack of beer and several bottled of wine / champagne in it - left over from having friends round before / during the Xmas / New Year period, and I have a cupboard with many bottles of malt whisky in it.

I now have no problem being in the presence of others drinking - that is THEIR decision - my one is different!

I have truly decided to be AF - and therefore it shouldn't matter how much booze is around.
I feel that is one has to avoid booze entirely to be able to cope, one might have to examine the sincerity of the decision!

So saying - It took about one month AF for me to KNOW with certainty that I wanted to STAY AF!

              Love

                Oh Twit!! :H :l :H Wot a thing!

Hamlet's got it in the second paragraph....(well, to me!) and I think you'll be find...a lot easier for everyday AF you'll have under your belt...

Treat it as an Observational Excercise....we'll want full and detailed reports on just how daft people are when pickled and the weird and wonderful things they do!! (You've reminded me, I haven't 'written up my notes' on the same for my Crimbo and New Year!!!)

It'll be OK - just keep going.

                Love FMS xx

Perhaps you could amputate a limb? your ex drinking arm perhaps???

no, seriously, you are in charge here mate, either you tell them you're not going or you go and remember that you are a NON-DRINKER. When I was newly sober I would say out loud (very loudly) when I first got to a place that I was not drinking so that I couldn't embarass or shame myself by then grabbing a "just one" (which we all know would end with me head first in vomit under a rose bush somewhere.....)

Each time you do this you will be more comfortable until one day you'll realise that you hadn't even noticed that you weren't drinking.
It always seems impossible until it's done....

Thanks for all your replies, I know I won`t drink there under any circumstances but no matter what it`ll still be tough going even if I only have 3 limbs left (Flip).

Slightly Suze yes that was my pooch Elsa but she is now at Rainbow Bridge having a well earnt rest after playing for 13 years.
