The new kid -- questions on Campral

    :new:
Hi all -- This is my second post (not sure what happened to the first). I'm trying to find more info on Campral, but haven't found what I'm looking for. My doctor prescribed it, but I'm afraid to take it b/c I hear it causes weight gain/GI probs.

For anyone reading this who has tried it, is this true?

    Thanks!

The new kid -- questions on Campral

I just started mine on Friday so I can't say yet - I hope it balances out if there is any weight gain - the calories I skip in alcohol will make it a wash. It's not listed as an official side effect and I've also read it can give you diarrhea which would seem to me to help lose weight.
I'll let you know in a few days if I see any weight gain.

The new kid -- questions on Campral

      Twinkie,
I'm a male, so I'm not sure that Campral affects the sexes differently. I've been taking Campral for 3 months now and I can say that I've lost weight. My belief is that Campral didn't cause the weight loss, but rather it was the absence of alcohol. Alcohol has a lot of calories, plus, for me,it gave me a ravenous appetite, further contributing to weight gain. Also, after being alcohol free, I became more interested in exercise and other active activities. Thus, my conclusion is not to worry about Campral causing weight gain vs. the benefits.

I didn't have any weight gain with Campral. I'd say take it and see if you have that side effect. If you gain enough weight to be concerned, then stop and go another route with meds. Don't assume that you will have every side effect that is listed, they don't happen to everyone.

        Good luck!

I took Campral consistently for 1 month. I was a little tired taking it the first 3 days. Also, after 2 days, I noticed I had no alcohol cravings. I also lost 5lbs. I'm sure this was a result of not drinking alcohol. Regardless of what the side effects were going to be, my life was worse saving. If I didn't try any tool that was offered to me, alcohol would have killed me or would have continued to destruct my life. To date, I have been AF for 6 1/2 months. You made it this far in getting the perscription. You might as well take the chance regardless of whether or not you are going to experience side effects and help save yourself from this awful disease. Best wishes, Reenie
