              Hello, I'm new

Lurk away! But stay here! You're anonymity is assured - all we know about you is that your eye colour and the fact that you may be double jointed! How else could you paint smiley faces on your toes! LOL!

                Hello, I'm new

                Welcome Green Eyes! Hi Jeremy!:welcome:

Bessie- you are TOO funny! I found this site on New Year's Eve, when I was looking for a reason to justify having "just one" to welcome in the New Year... but after I read so many posts, I realized that I wasn't alone, and I didn't need to drink. :h

I'm not sure why there are more women than men on here.... you can choose your gender on this website, I suppose , but I'm a mom of 4, 43 years old. Even though I knew deep in my heart that I had a problem, I wouldn't dare admit it to my husband or kids, let alone in a church basement or school cafeteria (i.e. AA). So, I'm here almost everyday, which is probably better for me than a weekly meeting anyway. There are people from all over the world here, so there's always someone here. If you ever want to "chat", click on the "Live Chat
" button and a new window will pop up. (Don't be intimidated~ everyone will say hi, but then it'll be up to you if you want to just "listen" or if you want to join in. I have to admit that it can get pretty crowded in the chat room, and sometimes it's too fast paced for me to keep up.)

Take care! Have a happy weekend....

                    Hello, I'm new

                    New too!

                    Hi-

Logged on first on Tuesday and have been af since Monday--well truthfully since early Tues am. I already feel better but am trying out my first weekend of moderation. Not much success previously but all the inspiring support on this forum gives me hope!

Any thoughts from new moderates to newbies who might need a pep talk/suggestions/thoughts? I'm so happy to have discovered this great group!

                    Selkie:thanks:

                      Hello, I'm new

Selkie, welcome. I can't really give advice on modding, but it's been said that you may need to get more AF days under your belt. Congrats on the few you have now. Good job!

Funny thing, when I first started I wanted to mod. When I read you shouldn't mod without at least 30 days AF, I started to reach that goal first (day 23!). But now I don't even want to drink, so I may give it up completely just by default! lol Point is that you never know just what your body truly wants until you give it a little more time to adjust to AF.

If you know for sure that you are going to drink, try to get to a local store and buy any supps that may curb your craving. Kudzu, etc. And maybe that will help you start to cut back. Also, don't know what your drink of choice is but substituting non-alcohol drinks really worked for me. I drink NA beer now and it really helps.

You will receive better advise than this I'm sure. I just wanted to pop on quick since this weekend is already here.

Stay strong. We are here for you.
                      Love, Me

                        Hello, I'm new

Hi Selkie, I came here too thinking I would moderate at first. Now, I'm thinking AF is the way to go for me -- if only I could achieve it! The longest I've made it so far is 5 days and then the old voice kicks in saying "oh, you can have one drink..." and of course that turns into 3 or 4 and I'm off again! So, I really advise at least trying AF for awhile to break bad habits. I'm trying again with day one today! Hopefully I'll stick with it this time.

                        Good Luck!

                          Hello, I'm new

                          holy smokes

I can't believe the mess I've made of my work because of alcohol. i need a shovel to dig out of it. Or a fire extinguisher. Oh well, serves me right. I know what I'll be doing this weekend. With any luck, taking kudzu.:upset:

                              Hello, I'm new

I seem to live in panic. Especially in the middle of the night. But now I'm really in a mess that's my own fault. But it makes me want to drink which is what got me into ths mess in the first place. I have GOT to be here this weekend AF and sort things out. And it's end of the year stuff too on top of my slack ass pile up. I can do it. I will do it. So can you.

                                Hello, I'm new

train-wreck sounds so right. I feel the same way. "Just a matter of time, really, isn't it," she said in an English accent. "I wonder what the neighbors think".

Alright I am not being entirely fair to the English. But it is what I think sometimes. How come they get to have all the loose drinking rules over there and no one is screaming about drinking issues? Maybe they are, but it does not seem like it. I watched Coupling and no one ever brought up the drinking even though those 6 floozies drank every episode. Not to mention the sex out of wed-lock, I mean come on. Why am I being pointed at?
