    Stop Beating Yourselves Up

Just wanted to say a quick THANK YOU I too really needed to hear this. To realize that I am not a bad person and I really need to stop thinking of myself in that light -it's self defeating and gets me nowhere.

This is a wonderful list that I will refer back to often

    thanks again

      Croft.....

You are such a valuable asset to this site........your posts, your humour and your sense of reality is inspiring.

Thanks for that - it really is amazing - I think I'm gonna put some stars on it!!
Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.

          ?CROFT you are soo right!
What does progress actually mean: a forward or onward movement (as to an objective or to a goal) but also gradual betterment??.
So here is how I see it.
The moment you came to this site or rather already the moment you started looking for this site is PROGRES because the times of DENIAL are finally over?... I think that?s the most important progress!!!!
Keep working on it is PROGRES, struggle today, be here tomorrow, admit it is PROGRES?..
We all have different circumstances, start from different levels. There can never be a standard for any of us to measure PROGRES. Healing is a tricky thing??some of us may have all the support they can get, some of us have just US. Some may have been hurting to the bones, have a crushed heart and soul, some may have had their Don Perignon for years and just missed the ?boat? when it was time to step out.
So, just being here IS PROGRES, go a step forward is PROGRES, go two steps forward and one behind is PROGRES, just don?t step out of HERE!!!!!

          Love

            Croft,

You are such a welcome addition to this community. You have such a great sense of humor and wit about you.

I know all about choking on pills, that's why I order liquid mega vitamins & B-complex and my calcium/magnesium from another site on the internet. Now I take them everyday because liquid just slides right down.....nice. They just need to be refrigerated once opened.

Croft, Thanks you ! No one beats us up like we do ourselves. Some days I think thats the thing I'm best at. About those horse pills, I agree. A word of advise to anyone else with these issues, I was getting alot of gas and bloating, my doctor said it could be the capsules or coatings on the supplements. She suggested Beano and it seems to be working. Bless you Croft and thanks again.

                    Stop Beating Yourselves Up

                    Hey Croft:
Thanks for this post. I am fairly new here and didn't want to offend anyone who is trying so hard, but I'm really trying not to get down on myself and it's a theme I'd like to see more of. When I went into counseling the first thing my counselor said is "give up the guilt". It will not make you drink less, so just give it up. I think sometimes we're afraid to give it up, because maybe we see guilt and shame as the tether that keeps up from doing more harm? I don't know ,just guessing.

Well, who knew feeling guilty was a choice? For me it was. I was told to give it up, and I did. I still go through the endless arguments, am I going to drink or not? but if I do I refuse to feel guilty about it. And amazingly I have a preponderance of AF days in Jan, not all that I would have hoped for, but more than any in the last year.

All this as a way of saying I think cheering oneself on can be a better motivator than beating oneself up. And I say, if you've had 30 AF days and then you drink one day, the next AF day is 31 not 1. Starting the counting over is too severe a punishment. Those are AA rules, and we don't have to buy into that.

                    Just a thought
                    G

                          Stop Beating Yourselves Up

                          Morning All,

Here is a quote from "Ask for Help". I totally agree.

Thank you so much Ask for Help. Starting back at day one was always depressing. I can say that I have had 21 AF days for the month of January, and darn proud of it.

Make it a great AF Day !!

                            great

That is a GREAT way of looking at a slip, not starting back at day 1 all over again..........that IS an AA thing..............one of the things that totally turns me off.........I have gone to a few meetings this past week, take the positive and leave the negative (like starting all over at day 1, picking up ANOTHER white chip!!:upset: ) Total humiliation in my eyes!!

Thanks Croft for the thread and Ask For Help for the awakening about not having to start all the way back at 1................progress, not perfection!!:thanks:

                            Love you guys!!:h

Croft~ do you think you can add "Asking for Help"'s thoughts to your original post?
