Newbies in Need - ODAT - MONDAY

    Patty

LFT is a Liver Function Test to determine how far you have gone with it, bit of a wake up call really.

I am truly heartbroken by some of the posts I am reading on here, in someways its like listening to myself, I just didnt realise how many hurting people were out there, not one thing that has been written on (only joined this morning so still have a lot to cover) that I cannot 100% relate to, but I guess even the fact that we are on here and are sharing with each other counts for an awful lot. On the up side although so sad for our situation there seems to be a lot of hope and encouragement between you all. I thank my friend upstairs for pointing me in this direction, he is about the only one I have left now anyway, still at least he doesnt turn his back on me and laugh when I leave the room.

    God bless everyone

Lisa: Yes, there are hurting people out here, but MWO really does offer a way out of the hurt. I've been here since April & have had some ups & downs in terms of my drinking. But, I've had more sobriety & sanity since I've come here than in many, many years.

Eastender: I too have slipped. I've decided that I won't count or establish a sobriety date, for now anyway. I'm going to take my sobriety one day at a time. For today, I won't have a drink.

        Good luck everyone. Mary

Morning ODATers! I'm glad to see everyone is doing well.

LisaL - welcome, I'm glad you found us - keep coming back, you will find the friends and the support here invaluable.

Rustop - I'm with ya - thank god for AF beer and wine. I am on DAY 8 and haviing the first Monday morning not hungover in so long I can't remember. I have had one bottle of AF wine and 4 AF beers since Thursday but I DID NOT DRINK!

I still have this nasty cold - I'm so busy at work and I wish I could take the day off and sleep but I can't - my daughter was great yesterday though, she played quietly and watched a movie so I could rest - she's such a little nurturer, she wanted to help mommy feel better. For once it was a real illness and not hangover related - as much as I hate feeling ill I have to say for that I am so thankful!

Hope everyone has a great day!

          Love and hugs,
          Uni
Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.

Welcome Lisa L - I hope you get as much out of this fantastic place as I have!! Good luck with your test results. And your brother ??? Forget him for now - everyone here will talk to you all the time, without judgement of any sort.

Suki - the horse is called Atticus..... Neddy to his friends! Just back from some cross country schooling in a deer park with lots of jumps set up. Learning that I really need to take the fences on - then I get the best jump out of him. Out hunting there isn't really any other way. If I back off them on a cross country course (which I do sometimes cos I am not so brave any more and the fences are solid and my imagination does overtime...!!) then he runs out but if we gallop on to them he makes a fantastic job of clearing them.

I must remember to breath when doing it though - I get really purple in the face after a few jumps!! :H

And the other question - I don't know that it is just in the UK that men have to travel for work so much. Surely the same in the US?? Hubby flies for a living so has to travel to the airport and the 3am start was because he had an early flight. He only has about 4 flights a month (long haul) so only have to see him off 4 times a month!

I do know that a lot of UK people in regular jobs have really long commutes - that must be hard as we have some really congested roads. Lucky me! I am self employed and have to go 1 mile away from home at the furthest!!! Talking of work, I had REALLY better get on!

                  Hi Bessie

Thanks for the welcome, what a beautiful horse, I used to ride all the time in the uk, wouldnt have the confidence to do it any more. Lucky you x

My husband works away a lot of the time in Iraq I think he feels it safer to be there than at home with me after a few bottles of wine.

Your a great bunch and I'm addicted already Certainly been a long time sinced I smiled.

I'm new here too, and really look forward to reading what we all share in common, something I've never had before. One day at a time, I'll have to keep that in mind....my husband is away until June (army), so can really relate to all you who have too much alone time....I didn't drink last night, and will not drink today. Thanks for keeping this going!

Good morning all my E-friends - checking in quick from work before I start my busy day. My boss is out sick, so I may actually get some work done!

Sounds like everyone is ready for a good week, regardless of whether they had a AF weekend or not. I'm on board, I really do enjoy not having a hangover at work, so that motivates me this week.

Welcome Lisa, I hope you stick around. It' helps to have a place to check in every day, and after awhile you start to feel like you "know" the people here.

Let's all start our week off with a great Monday!

                          Hi Eturgrns

Mine spent 18 years in the army so I know where your coming from, he left for a job in Iraq says it all really! Being an army wife can be so lonely and competitive(sp) fun at times but not often especially when you have children, everything that happens involves drink, especially in Germany. I worked for the military for 15 years myself so am aware of the pitfulls from both sides, in fact still blame the MOD for all my problems haha

                          take care

                            Good Morning,

Janice great job starting the thread this morning......I can see how excited you were that you were the first one

Welcome, Lisa L and eturgrns......keep on reading....lots of good inspiration and support here.

I too had wine over this weekend. Friday & Saturday, and actually, I have to say that I did not enjoy it. Yesterday I managed just fine. Week days are definitely getting much easier.

I just read a "tip of the day" that I receive daily. It's about exercise, but I thought we could use the same idea for our drinking:

Do you expect too much when you try to increase your physical activity? Success often leads to more success, but very high goals often lead to frustration. Start slow and set realistic goals for yourself. For example, unless you are already very active, don?t set your new goal as 60 minutes of vigorous exercise every day. Instead consider starting with activities like brisk walking for 10 - 15 minutes several days a week. By conquering smaller goals first, you are more likely to continue.

I intend to agree with this for my drinking. January 1st I started out saying that I am going to not drink the entire month. Well after 16 AF days, I had to have that wine. Drank for 4 more days with 1 AF day in between. Then stopped. Then had wine 2 days this weekend. None last night, and this week should be easy to the end of Jan. I guess I set my goal too high at first.

Good luck to everyone on their AF journey.....ODAT.

P.S. But if you do set your goal high and can do it .......YEAH....MORE POWER TO YOU !!
                            Miss October :blinkylove:

WOW, ODAt is getting crowded! Better word, "busy". There is always room for one more!

Welcome to you Lisa and Eturgrn. We're a close knit family, I wouldn't think of starting my day without checking in. I'm sure you'll find the same.

So Uni, what AF wine do you get? Is it a chardonay or a cabernet? That sounds so funny! But truthfully, I've never tried AF wine. Beer, yes.
I've had an AF weekend, although it wasn't easy because my son, who I would have sworn was a gift from heaven, has been really pushing his boundaries. Too much to go into right now but he turns 18 in May and thinks he's 25! He says I don't give him the respect he deserves and I should treat him as an adult..........( my mom was right! I had a child like me!!!)
I'm glad its Monday, I'm actually reading to go to work without being foggy. I love that feeling!
I leave for Spain on Sunday. Wish me luck you guys.........I shall be MIA from this site for 12 days!!!!!!!! What am I going to do? Mom doesn't have a computer, she scared of them.
I'll have to find some cyber cafe in town. I think promising to be Af is a tall order but if I can moderate I will be VERY happy. A full report to follow when I get back!
And to all those who achieve AF status for any length for time. Be proud, I would be. Its so much better than before.
                              When is lent?
