    I told my co-worker Im a drunk

Hello everyone. I havent posted for a while, due to not having a computer. I find myself back on this site, well because Im still floudering about. Im interested in the kudzo. Maybe that would help. I got very drunk at WORK last night. I have a job around alcohol, and its oh so easy to sneak a drink. Last night I wayyyy over did it, and my co workers noticed. Today I told my co worker, who is also a friend, that I have a serious drinking problem. I have never told anyone before, but now my job is in jeapardy, and I have to not drink at work! My coworker was very understanding, and I asked her to hold me accountable for not drinking at work anymore. I guess its a small step. I never tell anyone I have a drinking problem, Cept you guys . Thanks for listening, I really feel like a loser today.

Oh, I just wanted to add. I may not even have a job if anyone told my boss. I have to go into work tonight, and see if I even have my job. This is what drinking does guys, ruins our lives....

Thanks Janice. You remember that your not a loser either. This is a pretty big deal that I told my co worker. Being an alcoholic is so shame based for me. Its such a dirty secret that I carry around. It felt good to tell somebody. Now she will be watching me at work, and I kinda like that. I hope to post better news in the future. Im just so depressed and sad right now. Hang in there Janice!

Most of my friends know I struggle with this addiction, and a couple of my colleagues. Maybe I am lucky, but I have only had possitive consequences from telling them. The support and encouragement I receive is a huge huge help to me. I don't see it as a stigma or anything to be embarrased about. I am proud to belong to this circle of people who have recognised we have a problem. Many others know they have it but are in denial. We are the lucky ones.

That was a big step to tell your co-worker. They probably knew anyway. I like to pretend nobody knows, but they do. They have just been polite and not said anything, well some have hinted to hubby. That's great to have someone hold you accountable. I work for hubby and he patrols my office for booze. And baby I am slick. I can hide some booze. But I don't want to loose my job, loose my man, ruin my life, get parked in rehab, so I have to beat the beast. There is so much more life has to offer me. So I try to keep my big girl pants on. One day at a time.

I totally blew it last night too. I went to the local charity casino for NINE hours, no food and nine beer later and I spent $700 that was supposed to be paid to my daughter. Talk about being a loser. I joined this site three days ago and was sober for three days. Feeling good and "in control" I sauntered down to enjoy my favourite past time it seems - drinking and gambling. I don't sleep when I drink so I am sad, ashamed, exhausted, sick and full of self hate. I just got a new job and am very afraid of being found out. Does anyone have any techniques to shut the self hate talk off long enough to fall asleep? I don't know where to turn or what to do to get help. I need help.

Writing down all those negative spinning in your head can be an effective and immediate motivator.

OverIt, I could not imagine working around alcohol anymore. I struggle so much as it is. Years ago I bartended at a tavern. By the end of the night, I would be so drunk. Wine in the coffee cup was my "little secret". After hours were a mess too. I would close the bar and me and a few friends would stay and drink - on the house. Thank God there were no cameras. I can't remember if I got fired or quit.

Another thing, I had been sober for 5 years when I started working there. I thought I could remain sober working around alcohol. I was wrong. I haven't been able to stay sober since.
