Cigarette smokers?
So I began this AF thing with no problem, I'm going on night #4 and feeling real good. Though I have not REALLY enjoyed a smoke with my tea. I feel I am doing a disservice to my delicious tea. Though with AL I needed smokes, they would go hand and hand (literally!) But now my smokin' is being cut down (which is a good thing) but I am kinda going through double withdrawl.

Congrats on night 4.... people here say that tonight is the hardest night.... so if I had to guess, I'd say it's the AL that's dancing around behind your eyeballs, trying to convince you to have just one..... :alf:

Thanks Patty, ...I hadn't heard #4 was the doozie...I'm thinking it's going to be Fri or Sat night that will be real hard for me. No excuse 'cause I got the next day off, but I'm taking it a day at a time.
I quit coffee and some other recreational things , cold turkey, this summer.
This is the dawning of cleaning me up!

flyin - It's the smokes. I quit smoking - drinking - For me the nicotine was the B#$CH - Oh I think the AL would have been too - but the nic was sudden and MEAN so the AL took a quiet back seat. The first 72 hours are the roughest and it gets better from there. There are some supplements that help Physiditidiyl Choline (didn't spell that correctly) and Tyrosine (Amino Acid) along with the MWO supps. Hang in there -- you can do it. I am rounding the corner - almost to 60 days. It is worth it.

Living free, congratulations on approaching 60 days! And thanks for the tip on tyrosine, I will add to my arsenal on drinking, maybe it will help there too. Quit the smokes almost 10 years ago, still working on quitting the drink.The more we appreciate life, the more life appreciates and bestows us with more goodness.

Thanks Suzanna - the Tyrosine is awesome for so MANY things - esp. mood and appetite control - you take anywhere from 500 mg to 3500 mg upon rising an hour before breakfast and then again mid day on an empty stomach. I love it. I take the Phys.Choline (PC) at the same time - it's more for the smokers addiction (hits those neurotransmitters that nicotine did) So that one is important for you Flyin High and Memarcie if you are interested.
By the way CONGRATS to Flyin and Memarcie for quitting smoking - When you hear that it's harder to quit smoking that doing hard core drugs - I believe it. I could have crawled out of my skin at moments. It was the craziest feelings so huge way to go. And to everyone else - We can do ANYTHING if we can get this bastard AL off our back too! I finally feel I am moving on and not consumed by either al or nic daily now. But my guard is still up! A long way to go, but I don't feel the daily fear.

I've done both, I think smoking is more difficult to quit but easier to stay off of. I've heard that one should quit both at the same time and withdraw once. When I quit smoking, I drank more. When I quit Drinking, I Smoke more. Maybe both at the same time is key to success.Starting over again 09/06/11

I agree with changemylife. For me, drinking and smoking went hand-in-hand. I wasn't a regular smoker, only when I drank (which was almost every night!). If I had a cigarette, then I had to have a drink and if I had a drink, I had to have a smoke. So, when I decided to go AF, I had to give up the smokes too. The supplements and the topa helped a bunch. I didn't crave the AL or the smokes after about a couple weeks. I think this was due to the fact that I hit my "magic" dose of topamax. Those first two -three weeks were terrible though. If you can make it past that, it's MUCH better....

PHosphatidyl Choline (PC) - is found in lecithin, is a Precursor of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which is what nicotine hits on in the brain (mainly) You can get this in any health food store (I get mine on line at Vitamin Research Products)
Phosphatidylserine (PS) This is known as the Memory Molecule and gives the brain some oomph. You can get it right here at the MWO health store. I love this one also! There are studies showing it can help repair brain damage from drinking.
Tyrosine Precursor to the neurotransmitters dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline, and thyroid hormone, thyroxine. It enhances mood, promotes energy and motivation, supports healthy thyroid function. (Not recommended for those with a history of mania, melanoma, hypertension or pregnant or nursing) I would start with only 500 mg. 1st thing in the morning to make sure you do ok with it. If you do ok - add 500 in the afternoon. you can always increase if it goes well in 1 week increments.

Thanks for all that info Liv. And no, you're not nosy.
The reaction I had was very strange and hard to describe. I felt shivery, almost like the chills but not, and didn't have a fever. I wanted to sleep a lot, but I wasn't really sleepy. It just felt good to lie down and be covered up. I had an overall feeling of, well, lousy. Like you know something is very wrong but you don't know exactly what it is. Like I said, very hard to describe in terms of true symptoms.
I think I'll try the PC. I'd like to phase out my smoking habit and the GABA I take seems to be helping. The PC couldn't hurt, right?Noelle sez "Do want you like, like what you do. Life is Good."

I could be you. I started smoking at the same time I started drinking and would never reach for a cigarette unless a drink was in my hand. When I had reached day 14 AF the craving was so bad that I didn't know what to do. I didn't even know if it was nicotine or AL..........so I took a few puffs of a cigarette and both cravings went away.........which one was it? Who knows but it stopped me from taking a drink, my priority right now
