    Social drinking problem

    Shezian,
In answer to your question, its not that I have it under control, its that I always have to vigilant. I found MWO by accident, I wish I had found it 10 years ago. I went to AA and stop drinking for 3 years. After that I was able to moderate. But after probably another 3 years it was getting up to the point I am now. I, again, was at my worst then, and I never want to get there again. This website keeps me in check.
When I go out, I have a game plan. My husband ( who doesn't drink, .....well if he has 2 its enough ) through business we have a lot of business functions........I don't have cocktails. I tell them, "no not now I'll have wine with dinner".......I know that if I start on an empty stomach, I'm in trouble because it takes my appetite away and I'll kept drinking. If I'm eating, I usually fine.
The key is to have a plan. Not to say I'm perfect, otherwise I wouldn't be here but it truly has helped me.
AA told me never get hungry, never get thirsty and never get bored. Sometimes I eat before I go out.......it really helps! If I'm full, I don't drink. Have a piece of apple pie before you go out! It works wonders!

      Social drinking problem

      thanks

Thanks for that, l will go these ideas a real red hot go.
I think most times with socialising l am quiet bored. So l drink to keep myself busy and more entertained. I need to find other things to do, like go and play with my children or eat.

Sometimes l drink because l am a little nervouse, but l am getting better at that. Its more boredom for me.

      Cheers
      Snez

        Social drinking problem

        Social drinking problem too

After reading Shezian's post, I had to jump in here too. I seem to have more control at home (sometimes) but in social situations I usually dissapoint myself. Most of our friends drink and most of them seem to have it under control ( it appears that way..) When I am out in a social situation and drinking, I often cross the line and it really pisses me off. I have said "never, never again" too many times. I always get anxious when having to attend a social event or dinner party because of the control factor.
I also work in bars and clubs. I am a professional musician and have been working in and around bars and clubs for over 20 years-so I have always been around alcohol. Also, my family has some alcohol abuse history, so its been a major balancing act forever. I came here for support and am looking for moderation..I have never binged but I just can't say "no" very easily. My husband drinks as well, but seems to have more control. Guess I'm rambling here..It is so inspirational to read others experiences here..:h

Socialising is the hardest time if your AF or moderating, this is from me who is only on day 2, going out tonight and have allowed myself 2 drinks. MUST NOT FAIL.

            Social drinking problem

I'm NOT looking forward to Easter. Last time I was with my husband's family I was sorta trying moderate so I didn't get falling down drunk. I thought I was prepared and I had taken librium before I went. After about 5 minutes, my hands started shaking so bad, I couldn't hold the plate with the food on it. So embarrassing! So I started drinking some white whine with lots of ice in it. I didn't have a blackout like I generally would, but now I feel I cannot drink at ALL!

I'm trying to get to the CDs so I can use the social situations CD, but there is always something else I'd prefer doing. I HAVE to make myself because I don't want to drink when we're there again. Ack!

              Social drinking problem

Noelle, I hope that your Easter goes well, nothing like those family dinners!
Am really interested to hear how you went with the social Cd. I love the other cds. I use the hypo 2 the most. It seems to be helping. I have stopped having my glasses of wine at night.
I also use them when I have had a stressful day, I find that I sleep soundly.
Most of the time i don't thing about a glass at my witching hour. I do take alot of the vitiams, and take the l-Glut when i go out.
I'm not saying that they are the total answer, but I get the feeling that I'm changing and I would like that change to stay. I know that I don't have the tolerance, and it seems to be getting worse as i get older. i have to change my ideal of associating drinking wine with the romance of it........nothing romantic about a drunk woman.!
