    I'm a Newbie

:new: Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Gina and I was just referred to this sight today. I was never much of a drinker until about a year and a half ago. My hubby and I both had gastric bypass over 2 years ago. Seems both of us have experienced a transfer of our food addiction to beer. We know we need help, but the craving to drink is more powerful than I could have ever thought possible. I would just love to be able to drink in moderation! My problem? One beer turns into 10 or more. After about 4 beers, I "blackout" and later pass out. Seems like this is described by a lot of post surical weight loss folks, especially women. Hubby on the other hand can drink 20, sober up and go again! Not good either!

I subscribed a bit ago, so I am looking forward to reading the MWO book. I am also going to ask my doc about Vivitrol.

    HI

    Hi Gina,
Oprah had some women on her show awhile back with the same problem you describe. It was interesting and seemed to make sense why it happens physically and mentally. I wonder if the doctors warn you about this possibly happening? Anyway, I'm new at this myself, but you have the right idea to read the book. That's how I started, and then I found the website. I started out to quit smoking (again) and realized the beer had to go also, since I only smoked when I drank. I hope to be able to add the beer back in in moderation. Good luck to you!

I think (my personal opinion and I am not an expert). that there is a big connection with people who eat a lot or have eating disorders and those who drink.

being addicted to food is a way of dealing with stress and anxiety. after all alcohol is food. and it's addictive like a lot of sugary foods.

welcome to this site there are a lot of people who can give support and advice.
I have learned so much in the last year about taking care of myself instead of abusing alcohol.

      be well.

Onmyway2008 ~ :welcome: I love your sign on name, btw!

A lot of people here use L-glutamine as one of the supps because it cuts the cravings for the carbs and sugars in general (which includes alcohol cravings). So you might want to check that out.

Read as many post as possible. There is a world of infomation at your finger tips.

You'll notice that you found a great bunch of people here. And you'll have all the support and inspiration that you can handle.

Good luck to you and your husband. Make 2008 your healthiest yet!!
