I have wanted to moderate drinking for ages. Always say I will just have a couple but never ends up that way. If I open a bottle of wine I finish it,sometimes even go back to the shop to buy more. Feel terrible next day and feel have let myself down. just found this site today, and today has ben alchohol free. I am aiming not to drink until Friday and I know it will be hard.Tags: None

Hi Melaine,
Welcome to the site. My first post said " It is morning and I want to stop"
The first answer said "Read, read, read."
Nothing more. I felt a bit let down BUT it was good advice.
I bought the My Way Out book and was inspired. Also reading on here helped. It is possible to change.
At first on AF days I was pacing the floor literally to stop myself reaching for the glass but it gets easier.
Also, many people find that quality Kudzu helps with the cravings. Well done on your first AF day.
You have already taken the first step on your way out. My advice now?
Read, read, read.

Welcome Melanie
I am new here too and struggling through AF days. It's hard but everyday you wake up without a hangover it's so great! Stay here and read and post and read some more. That's what has really helped me! You have taken the first step by just checking in here. Good for you!
Best Wishes! When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.

Welcome Melaine
Hi and :welcome:
Good job posting and making a commitment to try to get to Friday.
Moderation is possible but first you want to get some time in without alcohol in you your system so you can really think straighter and get some perspective. For that you need tools like support, a vision of where you want to go. I found RJ's book very helpful (can download very reasonable and read today!) and considering CD's and supps as another tool.
You might want to check in on the ODAT or Montly Abs daily thread: just pop in and say: "I'm trying to not drink today and thought I'd check in here." You'll be warmly welcomed, and you'll find yourself feeling more accountable for restating your goal to a group each day.
I also find setting yourself up in Drink Tracker another accountability tool. Here you create a log of how many drinks you have each day, and many times I've resisted the temptation to drink because I want another 0 in my drinktracker. Whatever it takes, huh?
Best of luck, and I hope to see you around on the boards,
Fondly

Thank you all for your kind words. it's quite an emotional feeling to look at this on day 2 and really realise that you are not the only one. Thanks AFH - I actually joined the tracker yesterday and am looking forward to entering my next 0 today. I am looking forward to AF days so I don't feel horrible at work, and this forum really does help pass the time. All the best to all of you, and I will keep reading.
Kind Regards melaine xxx

Hi Melaine, welcome. You have just made the first step on a life changing experience. Yes, me too, so relate to your post, the finishing the first bottle, making my way back to the shop for more..... The first few days are really tough but once you have them under your belt it gets easier, note that I didn;t say easy, just easier and the feeling of achievement and personal pride is something I have never felt so strongly, waking up with your insides smiling.......... ahhhhh - luvely.
LxRather die standing, than live on my knees, begging Please..... No More.......
